RE: Pricing

Renewal price offers are all over the board as well. What is going on? We would like some consistency. Also why do first time buyers get the deals and not renewals?
My ERS was about to expire on May 7th, so I jumped to my "online" account at Good Sam and saw the renewal price at $112.95 I renewed as I didn't want my covergae to lapse.
That very night when I got home there was a printed renewal notice in my mailbox with a 3 year @ $79.95/year rate offer, yet the website AND a previous phone call to the call center BEFORE i got the notice could garner no better rate then the $112.95/year (regardless of years signed up for)
Now a quick call to the call center and everything was rectified, but I almost got taken.
I'm in for 3 years at a great price, but it sure seemed strange the way it all transpired.

Two calls for assistance, one towing and one not. NO ISSUES. Just re signed for 3 years.
Although you are calling a remote call center they dispatch "local" to your location services.

RE: WW-II Canadian PoW Camps to be Historic Event

I've camped at Neys once before, walked the same ground as those POW's did. It's a really neat feeling to step into history like that. Glad I took the time to soak up the history, I'm the better for it.
We will back again this summer, and am in contact with Anml_341 about attending the official ceremonies when it happens. Maybe two trips to Neys this year. Lucky me.

RE: Generators

Excellent thank you! Couldn't find those Honda full load specs anywhere!
I'm looking at the Honda EU3000isC2(Canadian Model) and they list it at 49db at idle and 58 at full load. Pretty decent for what power it's putting out.
As someone previously mentioned, wonder if any of us would ever be running any of theses units at full load???
So a pair of twinned Champs would be "half" again as loud (db) as Honda 3000isC2 at full load but making more power.
More grist for the mill....
This is why my wife loves me :B

RE: Generators

Regardless, the Honda EU3000iS is 49-58dB, the EU3000i is 57-65dB, the EU2000i is 53-59dB. The Champion 2000i is 53-?dB (I couldn't find the upper range at full speed, anyone?). I have an hour meter/rpm gauge on my Champions and at no load, runs at 3,000 rpm on econ. It jumps up to 4,500 rpm in full mode. I don't have any way to measure decibels.
I'll wade back in here on the noise thing. I did find an official CPE break down on the inverter units noise ratings here:
http://www.championpowerequipment.com/pdf/other/sine_wave_white_paper.pdf
% of Full Load Noise Level (dBA)
0 -53
25 -54
50 -59
75 -65
100 -65
Now interesting to note that HONDA does not rate their unit at FULL LOAD only at idle and 25% load.
Starting to split hairs here I think as far as noise levels go, and no, thanks to this thread I haven't bought anything yet!
You guys are driving my OCD crazy :@

RE: Generators

Thanks for the lesson, i'm gonna pass on the Chumpion's and gonna buy the LESS NOISEY EU3000isC2 like originally planned.
No fuss, no muss and no cables to deal with.:W
And for the record; it's close on the price thing Costco.ca has the 2000W Inverters for $529.00 CDN each and $94.99 for the parallel kit.
Neck in neck with (1)Honda EU2000i.
2 Chumps still going to be louder then 1 EU3000is
Eh...

RE: Generators

again the Champion Inverter - for $500 nothing can touch it price wise and you can parallel it(2 gensets) for less than the cost of a single Honda 2000i
Can you lead me to where exactly in Canada these gensets are on sale for that price?
I'm about to pull the trigger on a Honda EU3000isC2 (Current Canadian retail at $2399) BUT if I can get all this value and power for less then the cost of an EU2000 (Current Canadian Retail of $1299) then I'm all over it.
2 Champ inverters and a parallel kit are going to be more money, more noisy and way more heavy then an EU2000, but I'm a show me kind of guy, so show me.
Bet you a box of your favorite beverages you can't.

RE: Dodge Cummins, which year for best MPG?

And before anybody gets all froggy about cachingcampers mileage just remember he is talking about "Queen's gallons." :W At least I hope so. :B
Actually no I'm not :E
I'm talking genuine US MPG's
Serious though, my numbers are checked regularly with a Govt Of Canada appoved/desgined program:

RE: Ram tIe rod recall wait

Looking at that shot the steering knuckle is oriented in the striaght ahead position.
That shot is WAY out of spec for the recall.
That picture being the exact issue, when they are cocked up like that, they actually go EVEN MORE OVER angle during the turn and all the stress loads up on the ball stud and snaps them :E
As I said it happened to me pulling out of a parking spot back in June.....

RE: Dodge Cummins, which year for best MPG?

My 06 HPCR gets 15-18(depending on terrain) towing my ~ 7000LB Spree and gets a very consistent 24MPG on the highway and an rolling average in the 18's in mixed (city/highway/short trip) driving. I drive like a little old lady.
It's a diesel, it stinks and it's noisy. I love it :B
Yeah, I'd stick with the 03-06 NON emission 5.9's myself, In fact I'm looking for one for the DS right now, think I found a line on a decent 04:)
Nary a HINT of transmission trouble (240,000KM on it)- said it before and will say it again DRIVERS and lack of maintenance kills these tranny's not LACK of engineering.:R

RE: Ram tIe rod recall wait

Mine actually snapped way back in June on a low speed turn, lucky no trailer in tow :E
Anyway, I'm not going to get largely into it only to say that replacement parts availability is an issue at present.
Also note NOT ALL thees trucks are affected, certain VIN Ranges and certain model years that may have had MOPAR replacement parts installed. And as a previous poster pointed out- depending on inspection results and tie rod orientation they may not get replaced either.
And yes, I have inside information. That's all I'll say about that. I'll answer what questions I can if you all have any.

RE: winter use of my fifth wheel

As well depending on the day crack all the cupboards and run a fan to dry out the inside of them. Moisture can get trapped here as well as freeze against the outside walls if it's cold enough outside. Cracking open lower cabinets will also allow warm air into service areas that may contain plumbing and this goes a long way to helping these areas not to freeze.
Also helps to deter those "cold zones" IE pockets of cold air that can keep the rig feeling cool rather then comfortable.
I put some cold air return covers(vents) into some of these cold zones just to get a little bit more circulation & comfort in the rig- specifically under the bed which is where the pass through is, that's one gigantic cold zone and can make the bed feel like an ice berg!
Conversely, in the summer it helps get the A/C and cool air flowing into what becomes hot zones and helps keep the rig cooler in the summer.
I have also run a de humidifier inside my trailer, nice thing about that is it's also a 1500W heater (heat is used to dry out the air) so in addition to humidity removal I also have a supplemental source of heat!
Shum and I have learned alot from each other winter camping over the years and had great fun doing so. :C

RE: Exhaust for 2006 Dodge 5.9 Diesel

I'm the guy Gman is speaking of. I have a MBRP 4" with NO CAT. Sounds great :B
Downside, when I'm really standing on (towing a 7K trailer) it's noisey, can also get it blowing particulate pretty good sometimes too.
Considering I tow with it alot the nosie can get pretty bothersome, not sure if it's because of the no cat or the unrestricted muffler that MBRP supplies.
I might put the cat back on and put some miles on it just to see if and what changes.

RE: Packing your own wheel bearings

1) do not let Good Sam ERP lapse ($400 tow}
I've been a Good Sam ERS member since May of this year, baild me out twice this year all ready (once just the truck & once truck and trailer).
WELL HAS PAID FOR ITSELF.
4) A LOT of people will stop of offer help on the side of the highway !
Has not been my experience sadly. most people where just waving at me with 1 finger... :(
5) Do not let your wife talk you out of keeping an emergancy vest in the truck or trailer. I had ours and my wife looked very fashionable 30 yards back doing a pylon imitation
As funny a picture that might be, it's a fine idea to have safety gear & too surround yourself with it, trust me, most folks ain't to observant on the road.
Anyway, glad it all worked out, oh yeah and happy for my buddy Shum too even if he's hauling with a Ford :B

I've seen those, some installs involve cutting the heater box. I'm not 100% comfortable with that.
The new MOPAR supplied ones have the "fix" with more HD cams & doors. Once replaced they are issue free.

RE: Oil and Oil Management Questions

I'm a by the books kind of guy. That said I don't have OLM, but WHY would you ever want to buck the grain, what I mean is, an Oil Change is cheap insurance and much less then a repair order for a new engine.
Follow the OLM, the manufacturer will have NO REASON to ever deny you warranty. That's enough for me.

RE: Dodge forum?

I had a blower door replaced on my 2006 right before I got it in 2009. I think that was a common problem, (or so I heard). It works fine now.
Yeah, broken doors can be an issue in all the Ram's 03-08, touch woud I haven't had to go there in my Meggy, but did in my old 03 Quad Gasser.
Eh.....dollars spending keeps me motivated to go to work :W

RE: Higher octane gave me better milage cost less in end

That is a result of using no ethanol fuel. It begs the question why we are adding ethanol to any gasoline. It is certainly not to be more efficient.
Simple, lowers the demand for refined gasoline & decreases the Carbon Footprint of a gasoline engine.
+1 for the renewable resources of corn, not that I'm a hugger or anything :p
But if it takes more to go the same distance you haven't decreased your "imported" oil usage. Converting a significant portion of your agricultural production to producing a less efficient fuel drives up the cost of everything else. It makes a lot more sense to increase your oil output to meet the demand.
LOL! I didn't say it made sense :h
In theory your reducing refined gasoline demand by the amount of the % of ethanol, yes, higher ethanol blends are less efficient but STILL aren't 100% refined gas, so it does reduce demand/consumption and does decrease carbon emissions. Ever so slightly....
As far as diversion of agricultural production goes, there is tons of "surplus" corn, they aren't using the Peaches & Cream table stuff or Orval Redenbocker's finest to make Ethanol.
Eh, no matter to me, I burn diesel, a million years in the making :B
