RE: Beware GMAC Insurance

Insurance is state regulated both for rates and coverages, etc.
So the experience of someone in another state may or may not be similar to your state. In one state the insurance company may have a rate increase but in another state the company may keep the rates the same. Or even have a rate decrease.
The different forms for Home owners are similar but the rates are not controlled or set by the states in most states that I know of. Health insurance is the one that gets the state involved in rate setting.

RE: RV Parking City Ordnances

We live in a cond complex of 182 units and parkiing is very limited. Our new rules passed last year allow us to park 2 nights in the large lot and allow parking in front of the condo during the day. It works for us because it takes us 2 days to load up, We can't leave liquids in the RV over the winter so a lot of things must be removed each fall. Should I add that as president of the Assn. I wrote that rule.

RE: New member form Midwest

Are you basing the new tires on age or looks? Tires have the date of their build stamped on the side after the DOT codes. There should be 3 or 4 digits and the first 2 give the week of the build with the last two the year of build. If there are only 3 digits they were built before 2000. Since RV tires rot away before wearing out the age is very important to us RVers. If over 6-8 years they are probably due now rather than later. The numbers are only on one side so you may have to crawl under to find the ones that are turned to the inside. Check for water leaks. A leak to the walls can really cause a lot of problems. Delamination is caused primarily from water leaks and the outside fiberglass will seperate from the rest of the wall. The repair for this is usually more than the MH is worth. Do you know an experienced RVer that you can take with you to look? Most experienced woners can spot a lot of the danger signals. There are many good MHs left out there so enjoy looking.

RE: New to Forums with a parts question

S8nce there s a lot more space available under a RV dash than a car one you may find something from a pickup or van that would work. It may take some fitting but you have room to do some of that.

RE: Running roof AC while underway

It is a lot easier and less expensive to add a heater coil and blower for heat if the AC is too expensive to repair. In some cases the people were given info or thought it would be too much to fix the AC. Untilyou have it checked you won't know for sure. We sometimes use the dash AC and the roof one. If there are more p eople in the RV you may need to cool a larger area.

RE: converter Please help

Also tell him DO NOT try to run the ac on 110 power. The ac requires at least 30amp power.
Vic
The 110 power is 110 volts. The 30 refers to amps. 110 volts in an RV is usually 30 or 50 amps of power. With only 1 AC it could run on either 15 or 20 amps, depending on the size and power draw of the unit.

RE: Looking to buy 1990 to 2000, what issues?

On the comments about slides I would like to say that Newmar was the first to come out with a production slide in 1990 and they seem to have them perfected very early. If you are not paying cash for the MH you will probably have a difficult time financing anything over 10 years old. I did not say impossible, just difficult.

At one time I tried to drink Canada Dry but found it was too big a country. I think I have relatives in most provinces and been there. We haven't been to NF,Yukon and NWT.

could this possibly be from the rental of your unit to people who have no great interest in how long it lasts?

RE: Newbie Roof Questions

Eternabond tape used around the edge where the roof meets the sidewalls and end caps will eliminate the constant caulk. The original use of Eternabond was to seal underwater cables while they were still under water. I used the white on my previous Pace Arrow becaue they were known to leak. I never had a leak. The only thing Eternabond won't stick to is silicone. You have to either remove or bridge any silicone that is on the roof currently. If you check the manual on your TT you will probably find that they also require annual or semiannual checks of the roof for possible leaks. The constant moving of everything on either a MH or TT is what helps to create leaks.

RE: Suttle bus conversion to handicap rv

After 50+ years of school bus driving I would suggest you look for a short school bus. In many areas the lift bus does not get the use that a regular bus gets. I know that in Holland, MI. we sold one a couple of years ago for something around $2000. that had very low miles. In a small school district there were a few years when a lift bus was only needed for 1 or 2 students. They ride a little rough and are noisy but you can add a lot of insulation for sound and temp. Fully loaded with water tanks, bed, bath they would ride a lot better.

RE: Converter failing... I wonder

After a 22years of bouncing it could also be something as simple as loose wires connecting the convertor. That is also a potential fire hazard with arcing happening. Check that out real soon.

RE: Driving in Big Cities

My thought was also that those cities are nothing. Try Atlanta, Washington DC, Chicago, or Toronto. I have had to take 45' tour buses there regularly. It seems tours don't go to things in the country very often. (I did hit Longaberger baskets a few times.) With my toad I am 58' and if it is on the way I just go. Just be very aware of the traffic around you and merging. Watch the signs. Indianapolis is probably the worst city I have seen for lanes constantly ending and you have to move over again.

RE: Beware in keys

After having a relatively short tow of about 15 miles in FL a few years back that was paid at $600 by Coach-Net I can understand the charge. The rates are a lot different for a large RV. The tow truck costs a lot more, it usually takes 2 people to do it properly and I would be willing to bet their lieability insurance is a lot higher to tow larger, high priced vehicles.

RE: Kwikee electric double step on 1997 Bounder

Mine has 3 steps and I take the Left front side of a Continental. I knew I should have kept that car.
etmorrison, you shouldfind a clip of some kind that is holding the entire mechanism. Removing the clip will allow the steps to fall down. I had to do it a few years back but don't remember where the clip was.

RE: Importing Class A to Ontario, Canada

Hi Ted,
The only glitch could be if your friend wanted to actually bring the motorhome into Canada before doing the importation. A Canadian resident can NOT drive a U.S.Plated vehicle in Canada. No problem for your nephew to drive it across for him, as long as he is a US resident, but it would probably be easier to just do all the Importation procedures before crossing the border, normally this would mean that you would take your US plates off in the US, and he would have to get a temporary permit to drive the unit into Canada where he would get all the inspections done. Learned this the hard way.
Grant
Are you saying that when I am in Ontario and go someplace with a Canadian cousin in my car from Michgan he is not allowed to drive if I get tired? I can't say if I am drunk because I would have to take up drinking first.

RE: Pinnacle by Mountain High

I(f you have been around this site very long you will see that this is an often asked question that usually does not get the positive answer. Manuals are usually very generic and don't cover your specific model to begin with. You can download manuals on each of your appliances from the appliance manufacturer. Just get the model and ser. # and load the printer with paper and ink. Those files usually come with a MH but are easily replaced by you now. I carry the complete service manuals for my Workhorse chassis on a DVD that is always in the MH. You Tube also has videos of how to use an awning, dump tanks and winterize. You don't need that manual as long as you can run a computer.

RE: Split hot water heater.

Why not take the whole rig for a camping trip South of the border for a weekend and dothe water heater while there. PPL has pretty good parts prices and you could possibly have it shipped to a CG near the border. Prior arrangements would be required.

RE: Ran Out Of Propane Already?

Back when we had TTs we always had double tanks with auto switchover valves. Adding an extra tankwould cure the cold nights. The furnace does use a lot of gas and a water h eater can also use a lot if you take a lot of showers.
