RE: RV Expenses

you can install a dumpstation at your house for minimal amount of money if you know how to do simple plumbing. this way you will be able to rinse your tanks to keep them from smelling. I have had my TH for two years now, bought it used, and have only had to replace the ignitor on the water heater. my repair expenses have beel minimal. You will need to outfit your trailer with all the comforts of your home, coffee pot, toaster, pots pans, kitchen supplies, seasoniing, towels wash rags, sheets pillows blankets, soap shampoo, deoderant, brush, hair drier. anything you use regular in your home put in your trailer. you will need a couple of water hoses, I say this because one may burst while out at a campground. oh yea you need a water regulator because some of the rv campgrounds have a LOT of pressure. sewer hoses, coax cable for the ones that have cable hook-ups. small table for outside cooking and eating. the list will continue to grow, and change from vacation to deerlease. I have a few rubbermaid boxes that I keep "stuff" in for the deerlease, and for vacations. you will just have to make a list each time you camp out in it and stock up. we like vacationing in our TH because the kids call it "home". no more suitcases and the overnight fees are usually around $30-$40 each night.

RE: attwood water heater

changed the spark probe today and it fixed the problem. glad I started with the less expensive part first, and did not order the circuit board!

RE: attwood water heater

spoke with the attwood tech department. they told me it was the electrodes. the electrodes are also a flame sensor. he said once once the flame is ignited the electrode looks for a flame, if it does not sense the flame it shuts off the gas. the circuit board will reset and reignite three times. that is exactly what mine is doing. I have checked and cleaned all connections, gas valve and exhaust tube.

RE: attwood water heater

is there a way to test the solenoid valve?

RE: attwood water heater

thanks old-biscuit, I was going to do some additional checking before I bought a circuit board. I acts like a bad thermal couple on a home water heater or furnace. I pulled the igniter and cleaned the electrodes. When it does light it has a good blue flame, no yellow or white in it.

attwood water heater

I have an attwood water heater model GC6AA-10E. my question is when i turn on the gas switch inside the heater lights, and then goes back out. a few seconds later it will light again, and then go back out. it will do this three times then a little red light comes on next to the switch inside. I can turn the switch off then back on and the heater will usually light and stay on to heat the water in the tank. once it shuts off it will not relight on its own. what could be wrong?

rid x in black water tank

has anyone ever used rid-x in their bwt? we use it for our septic system at the lake to help the "bug" population that live in the septic tank. I was just thinking when I have my TH at the deer lease I dont fill up the bwt very fast. i only dump it two or three times in about four months of use.

RE: Do you ever have trouble justifying your RV expense?

I am 38 years old and my mom passed away almost 3 years ago. she always talked of traveling and seeing the country, but never got the chance. she worked until she was 70 years old. she was in poor health and never got the chance to live her dreams. My dad is now 73yo and talks about taking a trip to go visit his sister in florida, but still has not gone. I have told him numerous times he can use my truck and trailer and take off, go for a month or two. go visit your sister, and enjoy life!!!!! For all of you that are retired, or getting up there in life, do what YOU as a couple want to do. don't worry about anything. if you have the money, and are healthy enough..... GO!!!!!!! travel see the world if you want. I plan to become a full timer when I retire. my wife and I talk about it all the time. I don't want to end up like my mom, sitting in the chair every day after work watching the travel channel wishing i could go to the places on tv, I want to be the ones in the background on those shows!!!!! lol i could go on and on, just live the dream, you can't take any of this with you

RE: How do you handle the gen?

I work at Valero fire department in port arthur, tx and we have a "hurricane" trailer set up with all the basic essentials, including two generators. since they are locked up in the trailer all year long it is difficult to get them out and run them, then drain all fuel back out to store them. we just drain all fuel, then pour a small amount of sta-bil in the tank and run it for a few seconds on the sta-bil. we have never had any problems with the gennies starting right up when needed.

RE: Generator 101 -- a few boneheaded questions

how will you change oil in the generator every 100 hours as required in most generators? I am not sure what you are working on, but the siamese honda 2000i will run for approx 30 hours on a 6 gal can of gas plus the small can built on the generator. there is a kit you can buy for these for the purpose of an extended run time.

RE: Fitting a RZR and 05 Sportsman in my 263 Fuzion

I agree with QUICK SAND get your tape measure out and measure. If it looks close load up a friends rzr and try to put your bike behind it. You will NOT be able to put them side by side. Not even standard rzr and bike. I haul my rzr s and my polaris sportsman 700 in my TH. I have 15' from back door to front cabinet inside TH.

RE: Best way to dump tanks when boondocking?

I too agree you should be able to dump grey water on ground. NOT black tank though!!!! there is no difference in dumping grey tank and hand washing dishes outside and letting soapy water hit the ground. IMO I may be mistaken, but doesn't some of the pop up trailers have a water hose connection coming straight off of the sink drain???? so don't they have to drain their grey water on the ground??? I understand you would not want to do this in the middle of wally world parking lot, but at other locations where you are camping it would soak right in the ground and provide water for the grass to grow.

RE: What was your biggest challenge?

Mine is setting up at a campsite. I have told the DW many times if she can't see me in the mirror I cant see her when backing in to site. She thinks the best spot to watch for obstructions is directly behind the TT. I can't see her!!! sorry I had to vent a little :) I agree with several of you on setting up. I have a "routine" in place so I don't forget, then when I think I am finished I get the clipboard with my personalized check off list to make sure I don't forget something that will put a dent in my wallet! LOL. a good friend of mine introduced this idea to me after he left his antenna up and drove down the road taking out a few low hanging wires, eventually loosing battle with a low hanging limb. He ripped the antenna off the roof and it swung over the side of the TT and busted his entry door window.

RE: whats a "sewer ring"?

Yes, I was wondering what the three different threads were for, but, the last campground we were at , the 90 fit loosely in the sewer drain. So, I will still get one. I will have more questions,I'm sure. And yes, I guess I could've googled it, but I figured this particular forum was the best place for dumb questions. Thanks for the friendly advice. the only dumb questions are the ones not asked!

RE: water leak

well found one of the fittings loose. I guess it was just loose enough to leak when the water heater would warm up and build pressure. I turned on the water pump and looked at all the fittings on the heater and no leaks. then I fired up the heater and waithe for the water th get hot. thats when I found the leak, tightened it up and no more leaks!. thank God it was not the heater itself.

RE: water leak

I am going to pull my access pannel today when I get up (working graveyards this week) and see if I can find a leak. Then fire up the water heater if I cant find a leak. thanks for all the response. Lets pray its not a split tank or something like that.

water leak

during our family vacation i noticed water coming from the cabinet where the water heater is located. I would omly see the water when the water heater was turned on, gas or electric setting did not matter. I figure it is because the heater pressures up when heating causing the leak. Has anyone had this problem, if so what was leaking.
