RE: Chevy Equinox 2012 Caution

Now that a few hours have passed, I have settled down and will sell the Equinox and get a new TV.
Thank you for all of the replies.
The main reason for this post is to warn people the the 2012 2.4L does not have a tow cap of 3500. I made a mistake. Now, I hope no one else does.
Thanks again. Pat
it's always good to warn newbies about doing their homework before spending a lot of money on tow vehicles or RVs.
glad you've made a decision and are moving on.

RE: Chevy Equinox 2012 Caution

We had a Tahoe and tt when my husband passed away late last year I sold both, buying the Equinox to possibly tow a light weight tt if I decided I wanted to go it alone in the future.
In all the reading I have done, I don't recall reading that you can't or shouldn't tow with a front wheel drive. That doesn't mean it isn't in writing, I just don't remember seeing it.
Actually, this is my fault for taking the word of the auto dealer, but I wonder if he even knew it was only rated for 1500 lbs. If he did, he was not honest, because I made it clear I wanted the 3500 tow limit and that is why I was comfortable buying the Equinox.
The dry weight is 1970lbs for the tt.
does it have the 4 cylinder engine or the v-6 engine?
if it has the v-6 but not the tow package, you could pay to duplicate what comes with the tow package and tow the 3500lbs.
if it's the 4 cylinder, nothing other than a popup or teardrop is doable.:(

RE: Backing-Up with Reese Weight Distribution Hitch

Backing up with WD is fine, It's the friction sway that should be loose when in reverse.
though i don't own a Dual-Cam, from what i've read, you don't have to loosen or detach anything to back up, just like my Equalizer WDH.
that's only required with the cheaper WDHs that have friction anti-sway bars.

RE: Chevy Equinox 2012 Caution

I have a 2012 Chevy Equinox. No one has ever mentioned a towing cap of anything other than 3500 lbs. However, there are two engines in 2012, one being the 2.4. It is only rated for 1500 lbs.
My car only has 4000 miles on it and is loaded, but I either have to get rid of it, get a new car or cancel my tt order. The tt weighs 2100 lbs.
let me guess, the RV salesman said, "Sure, you can tow that trailer with your Equinox!"
i have to ask, why would you buy a 4-cylinder front-wheel drive uni-body crossover vehicle to tow a TT? everything about that, is exactly opposite of a good tow vehicle.

RE: Please wash your hands

I enjoy reading these threads, but it strikes me that we're an awfully nosy bunch of folks sometimes.
I mean, who really gives a rap about the hygenic habits of strangers?
If you're germ conscious, take care of your own hands.
x2!
between people freaking out about someone's else dump station habits or that they can't drink any water unless it's bottled, i sometimes wonder if these people would ever survive a real disaster.
where there's no running/clean water and no clean toilets.
now, if the guy had not used a sewer hose and just dumped his black tank on the ground, THAT would be gross!

RE: What Camping equipment does a first time camper need?

Troll
i'm suspicious also. the OP has made quite a few posts, offering advice on a number of Camping/RV'ing issues and has a link to a commercial camping website and yet, is now posting as a first-time camper.:h

RE: Wanting to burn my tents

Have you considered a hybrid?
this would be a good option if the OP has family staying with him.
if he wants something for just himself, a hybrid wouldn't be a good choice.

RE: Clean Handles?

There is a product you can find at Family Dollar or most of the Dollar Stores. It's called; Awwwsome! and it does wonders. Any dirt or black spots on handles will disappear.
it's called "LA's Totally Awesome" and i also found it worked on the plastic handles. other degreasers wouldn't.

RE: Picture this one in your head

I think the Ridgeline could safely tow a pop up but I think the limit is 5,000#.
you are correct but Honda recommends NOT using a WDH. so maybe the Ridgeline owner was at least following that!
one big reason why we decided against a Ridgeline.

RE: Wanting to burn my tents

I had a feeling that my truck wouldnt be able to handle this TT. And the salesman didnt seem to want to offer any information after I pointed out what vehicle I would be using to tow it.
that's because he didn't want to lose a sale. he doesn't care whether it can tow it or not.
#1 newbie mistakes: listening to salesmen and using fictional "dry" weights.
by the way, was the 3810lbs. number, the weight on the trailer's sticker or the weight on the brochure?
2 other points, obviously your Ford doesn't have the factory tow package. unless you duplicate that, it doesn't have the 5000lbs. tow rating.
and always post the model number of the trailer you're looking at. that way we can hopefully find the full specs on it, not just fictional dry weights.

RE: Ran Out Of Propane Already?

cm11599ps, i know you've posted on the Hybrid forum many times.
but i don't think i ever saw you post that you were using things like Popup Gizmos, solar blankets or Reflectix to help your bunk ends retain heat.
i know these measures are talked about constantly on the Hybrid forum.
if you didn't use such measures, YES, you would go through a lot of propane heating the trailer.
we do use such measures and we can go through a whole season on just two 20lb. tanks.

RE: When selling...

include whatever your new RV won't need.
like if you're getting a 5th wheel, include the WDH.
or if you have PUGs and the new one isn't a hybrid, include those.

RE: had enough

Ill look in a bit what model it is but its a domestic and its just gas and electric. And its all manual you have select gas or electric with a knob.
The htt is a 01 keystone bobcat, so the fridge has some age on it and the ppl I bought it off of said they never really used it and if they did I doubt they had it level.
And for my location I'm in west central PA in the heart of elk country (and I almost hit one of them big dear last night).
well, it can't be working wrong due to high heat, since you don't live in a real hot area.
sounds like it may be a combo of old fridge, lack of use and poor leveling by previous owner, that may cause it to work poorly.
before you buy an inverter, batteries and an electric fridge, you really need to look at the power consumption of the fridge.
if it has a compressor, it'll suck all the juice out of even 2 6v batteries.
