RE: The truth is now being censored

I remember they were having money problems last year and mentioned they may quit. I believe these are a bunch of retired customs agents providing a free service.

RE: TIRES

I recently pulled off the 6 year old Goodyears because of age and traveling to the hot part of the country. I had no problems with the Goodyears but went with Michelins because of price. I can't tell any difference in the ride. I resisted the temptation to buy the cheaper Hankooks.

RE: No TIP to Rocky Point

We were at Lukeville last Friday. We were told by U S Customs people we would be searched by Mexican authorities and would NOT be able to take any beef into Mexico! Since we had just stocked up we decided to move on. We crossed at San Luis on Sunday and were not asked about beef. Makes me wonder??? We are in our rv space south of San Felipe now & life is good.

RE: We're outta here!!

We arrived in Why, Az. a couple of days ago. Pulled into the Hickiwan Trails RV park and took the car down to the border to see about getting our visas. U S Customs agent advised us the Mexican authorities were not allowing any beef into Mexico. Since we had stocked up at Wal Mart in Benson, Az. the day before, we decided not to cross there ( Lukeville ). We went to Winterhaven, Ca. and drove the car to Algodones where we got our visas and were told to pay at the bank when we get to San Felipe. We also found an ATM and got some pesos ( $13.62 to $1. exchange rate ). We crossed yesterday at San Luis. U S Customs and Mexican authorities were stationed BEFORE the Mexican border. Questioned us about where from, money, guns, etc. No one was at the mexican border. We got the green light and left. I guess the beef thing was local to Lukeville/Sonoyita. Maybe they are feeding the poor there? We are now in our rv space south of San Felipe and I am about to witness the first of many sunrises over the Sea of Cortez!!

We're outta here!!

Left home yesterday for our 2nd home ( rv park ) south of San Felipe, Baja Ca. We are now in Wichita visiting Donnas family. After 3 or 4 days we will ease on down to Yuma to load up with supplies, then be set up in time for the full moon of October and some good fishing!!

RE: Quick little weekend trip..... 45 min away.

Nope, we left yesterday for our 'little getaway'. We will be in Mexico til April or May. When we get home in the spring we are busy getting things done around the house so we can leave again in the fall.

I have a tpo roof and was told to use murphys oil soap. I mop it on and leave it about twice a year. Seems to work ok.

RE: One more tire question

Wally, thanks for the chart. I'm about where I need to be. My question is why is load range F different for Michelin than Goodyear?

One more tire question

I recently replaced the Goodyear G670 with Michelin XRV 245/70 19.5 both are load range F ( 12 ply rating, not necessarily 12 plies ). On the Goodyears it says on the sidewall 80 psi cold. On the Michelins it says 95 psi. Why would the same load range be different? I always ran the Goodyears at about 75 psi. Don't know if I should bump it up a little simply because they are rated for more pressure. And, no I haven't read the Michelin chart. Guess I should do that.

RE: Too Much ?

I did the same thing as Doc Brown. Once we decided what we wanted I called a dealer and made an offer. They refused it. I called another with the same offer and they accepted. This was in 2006. No trade in. We're happy.

RE: Goodyear G670 Junk!!

The tire shop called this morning and said the guy is there who wants my take-off tires. 7 tires for $600. That brings my total cost down to $2089.67 = $298.53 each for the new Michelins. I feel better already.

RE: Goodyear G670 Junk!!

I just yesterday took off Goodyear G670 tires with 30,000 miles on them. No rivering. No problems of any kind. I replaced them with Michelins only because of price difference. Guess they weren't all bad. see this thread Went and did the tire thing today

RE: Went and did the tire thing today

Beave, Hankooks were priced at $240.00 plus all the taxes etc. That dealer ( not the one where I bought ) told me any of the Chinese/Korean tires aren't quite as quality controlled as others. That is why sometimes you get one that won't balance. Also Hankooks are truck tires, not specifically for RVs. The size I need are 14 ply rated, not 12. I don't know if that will make for a rougher ride or not. I also talked to some who use them commercially. They said some wear well and some don't. So, I took all that information and decided, hey, it's only money. I hope I got the best that money can buy???

RE: Questions About V10 Engine and the Overdrive Switch

Yes, the 460 is a v-8 engine. The overdrive lockout switch does just that, locks the transmission out of overdrive. Good for downgrades to let the engine retard and save on service brakes. In the 2006 and later Fords the tow-haul mode actually changes the shift points and does much better as a retarder.

Went and did the tire thing today

The Goodyears are 6 years old with 30,000 miles and we are leaving in a couple of weeks for the hot country so I, after reading this forum and thinking about a tire failure on the two lane road in Baja, went and got 7 new MICHELINS ( gulp ). I had shopped around and these are my findings: Hankooks are much cheaper, some are good, some are bad, and some are really hard to balance. Goodyears are even more expensive than the Michelins; besides that, if I ever met Bob ( the Texan) with new Goodyears I was afraid he wouldn't speak to me :D even though the Goodyears I took off never had the rivering problem. Actually, if I hadn't just parted with $2689.67 ( for 7 tires) I couldn't tell any difference in the ride, going to the tire shop, or returning. On a good, smooth road it rides fine. On a rough road it rides, well, rough. These are 245/70/19.5 tires, priced at $352.00 each plus all the taxes, balanced, etc. Total was $2689.67. I have a contact who wants my take-off tires for $600. for the 7 tires, maybe.

RE: Max. towable limit

I have towed doubles from Arkansas to Baja for several years. Both Ar. DOT and State Police say it is ok here. Once in Arizona I was asked to unhook. Another time, in Arizona, I asked a DOT officer what he thought of my setup? He said he had more important things to deal with. So,apparently it depends on the officer. I have not been involved in an accident, so don't know what that would entail. I guess Brett & Dennis have NEVER broken a law while driving a vehicle. :S Not even 1 mph over the speed limit? I don't know about California but in most states length limits apply to commercial vehicles. Permits are only issued if the vehicle cannot be made legal ( over length for long loads in one piece, over weight only if one piece is too heavy) I work part time moving heavy equipment, so do have a little experience with permit laws. Just my opinion!

RE: Huges Autoformer Works!....so far

I bought the 50 amp job last year. Guess I didn't get a bargain, it was a little more than $600. :S I'm glad I have it though. In Baja we have power outages on a regular basis. Some have lost refrigerators and one lost an air conditioner. We haven't had any problems.

RE: trip west

If you really want to see the country, drop off the interstates and use some other roads. That is if you aren't in a big hurry.
