RE: New truck bed clearance

Trailer came stock with 15" rims and tires. We all know how that senerio plays out so I wanted to switch to 16" and a good LT tire. When fully loaded, I had about 1 1/2" from the top of the tire to the fender well and it was starting to show ware marks where the tires were touching the top of the fender well. I had about 6" of bed rail clearence which was very tight for going offroad. The spring hanger system on my trailer was jig made with 2x2" square tubing with three cross supports all welded together then welded to the I beam running length wise. I removed axles, used die grinder and cut out enitre jig made hanger frame and welded the 2 x 3 stock inbetween them. I now have 3" from top of tire (fully loaded) to fender well, 9" of bed rail clearence and the trailer also had 3 entry steps so that worked out good. Ramp angle is steeper but not bad. I didnt want to go any higher than I needed to.

RE: New truck bed clearance

Quote: He said an axle flip will get you about 4". If an axle is 3" in Dia, 3K spring pack is 2" thick and spring pearch is 1/2" to 3/4" and you reverse their position I can not see how you can end up with anything less than 5 1/2 inches of lift ? I welded in 12' long sections of 2"x3" rectangular Stock on both sides for my tripple axle. Love it, everything looks as it should. For me 3" was the magic number but there was no way to get there with an axle flip.

RE: Camping at Mecca Copia Trail, Drop 31. Salton Sea

Have camped there since 77. Couple years ago, undesireable locals started to frequent the area. It got to where we were afraid to leave camp on a long ride. Havent been back since. Not sure how it is today ? There are some soft spots in the wash, best to plan your route in on a toy. Heard it might be changed to an open area soon, was a limited use area last time I was there. Great place to ride though.

Think I'd stay away from that dealer unless you like a light feeling wallet.

RE: New truck bed clearance

Oops just saw his last post, may be a better way... Taken from crazy cooter correct track thread: Update!!!! After seeing the side to side movement in the spring hangers under load, I welded connecting tubes right to left between the hangers for some added support. Not what I would consider to be ideal, but I have yet to modify the chassis in any way that would void the warranty. I'm going to install some KYB monotube shocks this winter and I may in the future to a 2x2x.250 tube lift and Torflex axles after warranty runs out......may add a third axle as well! Two extra brakes and tires would be better for durability and reliability.

RE: New truck bed clearance

A 40 footer would get you level :B If I were in your situation, I would install a correct track and call it a day. Should yield a 2" lift on the trailer. There is a thread about it in here somewhere. The kit doesnt look too stout on the web page but watch the install video. Looks like stout stuff and will strengthen the hangers also. correct track

RE: 2006 Holiday Rambler Next Level 38FKS

We pulled the trigger today. Bought a 2006 38CK with the bedroom slide. Now you can buy more toys! Huge storage in that thing, congrats.

RE: Anyone change springs (3612 Raptor)?

I'm probablly a season behind you and I'll be doing the same thing. Will add an extra leaf also. All things being equal which I'm sure it's not, I have about 2450lbs on 2600lb springs. Will go to 3k springs.

RE: Camping Out Of Wind Barstow Stoddard Wells Slash X Side

look for some big rocks. Oh wait, there aren't any at Slash X. It's the desert, it's windy, get used to it. That's why we have toy haulers. Actually there are, if you keep south east on the 247 about 5-6mi (could be a little further never clocked it)past slash X there is a road to your right that will take you to a rock climbing area. Bout the only place I like riding to out there.

RE: Harbor Freight Battery Cutoff

After looking at your link it would appear the handle was installed before the 2 halfs were crimped together. Good call on getting the removable key one. That should do it.

RE: Harbor Freight Battery Cutoff

Dont over think everything :B borrowed from Thmterry A toothpaste factory had a problem: they sometimes shipped empty boxes, without the tube inside. This was due to the way the production line was set up, and people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of the time. Small variations in the environment (which can?t be controlled in a cost-effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line so that customers all the way down to the supermarket don?t get pissed off and buy another product instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they decided to start a new project, in which they would hire an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem, as their engineering department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP, third-parties selected, and six months (and $8 million) later they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high-tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less than it should. The line would stop, and someone had to walk over and yank the defective box out of it, pressing another button when done to re-start the line. A while later, the CEO decides to have a look at the ROI of the project: amazing results! No empty boxes ever shipped out of the factory after the scales were put in place. Very few customer complaints, and they were gaining market share. That's some money well spent! he says, before looking closely at the other statistics in the report. It turns out, the number of defects picked up by the scales was 0 after three weeks of production use. It should've been picking up at least a dozen a day, so maybe there was something wrong with the report. He filed a bug against it, and after some investigation, the engineers come back saying the report was actually correct. The scales really weren't picking up any defects, because all boxes that got to that point in the conveyor belt were good. Puzzled, the CEO travels down to the factory, and walks up to the part of the line where the precision scales were installed. A few feet before the scale, there was a $20 desk fan, blowing the empty boxes out of the belt and into a bin. Oh, that,? says one of the workers, one of the guys put it there cause he was tired of walking over... every time the bell rang?.

RE: New Polaris Countdown..... And It's the RZR4 XP900

My thoughts are your a fool if you go faster then 50-60 in a sxs offroading. Fire road have at it... If you want to go fast offroad where you dont know whats coming up, I'd take the rail everytime.

RE: Axle flipping - SPOA

Steeper ramp angle, higher center of gravity, may need tripple steps. I like shadow trailer in cypress ca.

RE: Stumped on my brakes

I had weak and intermittent braking that, when chased down, was due to the wiring that was run through the axles, becoming chafed and shorting to the axles. That wiring was pulled, and new 10 ga wire run on the outside of the axles. Let there be brakes! Sluggo Been there too! Brakes worked great after the repair. Think the 2 trailers in question are new, picked up in may of this year. Usually takes a bit of time for this to happen. Got a short message on the prodigy when this occured also.

RE: Stumped on my brakes

Think a quick check would be are all the wires coming out of the axle tube and backing plate on the trailing side of the axle (tailgate side). If you have any wires on the leading side (hitch side) of the axle tube or backing plate I'd check into it further. Thats the way it's been on the trailers I've owned.

RE: Stumped on my brakes

Is it possible that the axles were put in wrong? Left side backing plate on the right side of trailer? Buford. I forwarded your suggestion on to my dealer. Maybe we'll hear something soon. r1MK. Hope you don't think I'm hijacking your thread. I think we're just in the same boat. There is a good possibility that might be it. I had an old backing plate in the shop to move the lever both ways to see if it could be operated if installed on the wrong side. Installed properly the leading shoe (towards the front) is pushed into the drum. Centrifical force of the drum turning shoves the rear shoe into the drum and there is a compounding effect of braking power. Installed on the wrong side, the arm will move and presses the rear shoe only into the drum. Be lucky to get 20% braking power even if you put 24 volts to it. :B Hope it's an easy fix for you guys, cant think of anything worse than pullin a big rig with sub-par brakes.
