RE: Please wash your hands

I don't use gloves either, just wash up and leave. But its frustrating to see the guy in front of you taking 20 minutes to get suited up as if he were an astronaut about to go on a spacewalk. I have seen hazmat response teams have less gear then some of the folks at the dump stattion.

RE: Amish Country

Yes my wife and I went there last year. It is small and tight, thankfully there was nobody behind me so I could pull straight through as it would have been a 300 point turn to try and back it in. There are really no amenities but we went to Amish country the whole time and basically just used it as a base so it worked for us. I would not stay there again but instead saw a place called 'Scenic Hills' which is closer and better than where we were at.
Hope it helps

RE: 5th Wheel Tripod Stabalizers?

I used a tripod on my old fiver and it did stop some of the movement. On the new rig I went with JT's and they definately do a better job then my tripod did. The tripod was big, heavy, pita to load and unload and ended up selling it.

RE: Dometic 310 toilet

Mine came standard and in fact I am waiting for the replacement unit to arrive at the dealers. Mine leaks between the base and the bowl and is also loose at that point (hence the leak). I figured it just needed to be tightened up so I took a look and see nothing to tighten. I get the manual out and see its sealed at the factory and nothing you can do about it. Stupid design. Oh well its under warranty

RE: Need to change out the bathroom fan

I just installed it in the main area and hooked it up to a solar panel so it can vent out some of the heat when its in the storage lot. It was an easy install for the fan

RE: Hitting the 5th wheel hard hooking up.

When I unhitch I have a little level glued to a magnet in the propane compartment that I set the bubble to be centered. When leaving I either raise or lower the front legs to where that bubble level is centered or maybe just a tad under. I now know this is the height that I unhooked atand I am safe to hook back up. I slowly back in until the hitch slams closed and then visually inspect the pin. More times than not I am hooking up outside while they are cleaning up inside. I see no reason to slam into the pin at all.

RE: Solar/plumbing vent

Thats how I ran mine and it worked out fine. I was able to run them from the top of the vent and came out under the bathroom sink where I could easily fish them through to the basement. I also caulked up the pipe and no problems.

RE: Best way to run PV Wires Down Drain Pipe?

I just ran my wires recently through the vent for my panel. I disconnected the pipes in my bathroom sink, took off the vent cap and ran a snake until it popped up the top, hooked up my wires (one at a time) and pulled them through. From there I had to drill a hole in the top of my pipe going from the vent to the sink and ran the wires up out of the pipe. From there it was easy to run them through to my basement because there was alreay room where the water pipes came up. I used 8 gauge wire and I also did not drill anything in the top of the rof vent, I simply put a large hose clamp around the wires and the vent and just put the vent cover back on.
It worked great for me. My fridge was way too far for me to try and run that long of cable

RE: Solar controller hookup question

B is better, but your rig's load wires should also be spanned that way for proper balance. There should be a fuse on the pos wire from controller to battery fitted close to the battery pos terminal. Fuse size should be more than the panel's output rating by at least 1.25, so 15amp should cover any cloud effect high amps or whatever.
If wiring is too short to do the span, it won't make a big difference to do it all at one battery. In that case I would swap batteries around once a year so it evens out over time. Mark them with tape so you can tell which battery is which.
I do have the load to the rig also spanned across both batteries and I do have a fuse between the panel and controller and also from the controller to the battery. I have the length to span them both from the controller so that is not a problem

Solar controller hookup question

I just installed a 100watt panel, and I have 2 12volt batteries wired in parallel. When making the connection from the controller to the batteries is it better to:
A). just hookup the pos & neg to 1 battery
B). span both batteries, pos on battery one, neg on battery two
C). Doesn't matter
Unfortunately the directions that came with the controller leave a bit to be desired

RE: Netbook Laptops

I have an Acer netbook and use Microsoft Streets And Trips with GPS. This setup has worked great for us for many years. I mount the netbook between the front seats on the center console, the usb gps just gets thrown up on the dash. I prefer this way rather then a dedicated GPS because I like to plan the route on the home computer first and be able to see exactly where its going and have the ability to change the route any way I want. I have been using S&T for a long time and think its a good program, I have also tried Delorme but prefer S&T.
I guess some of the advantages of using a netbook or laptop is the screen size is larger then a gps unit.

RE: Copying Program files to new computer?

If you don't know what your registration key is then I would suggest to download BELARC Advisor to your machine and it will then display the key for you (a long with other information). Write that key down, and download the software directly from the website like the other poter mentioned.

Morryde Pinbox Question

I was thinking of replacing my stock lippert pinbox with the Morryde rubber pinbox and had a question for those that own one. Did adding the new pinbox, raise, lower or have no effect on the height of your rig?
Currently my pinbox is adjusted as high as it will go and the hitch is as low as it will go and when I am hooked up I am still a bit nose high but not by a lot that I worry about it. If I get the new pinbox I was wondering if that will change my situation or not.

How to secure solar panel

Hi, Just wondering how others secure there solr panel to the roof. I have the Z clips and was planning on just using 4 #14x1 stainless steel screws (1 on each clip). Its a 100 watt panel, do you guys think that its good enough or do folks use moly bolts?
