RE: campgrounds in Columbus Ohio area- need advice

I would try the Alum Creek campgrounds north of Columbus off Route 36 and I-71. If you are coming north out of Portsmouth on US 23, there is Sciota Trails just south of Chillicothe. It is about an hour drive to Columbus.

RE: Deep Fried Oreos

Try the state fair. Fried Coke, fried bananas, you dream it, they probably make it.

RE: Full body paint

Our toyhauler is a Weekend Warrior which has decals. The one side peeled 4 days after we picked up the unit. We had a really bad ice storm. The local dealer replaced them and they have been fine since with a little rolling on the top edge of the same side that we had to fix. If the dealer hadn't went out of business a couple months after we purchased with no local dealer for almost a year and then weekend warrior, they probably would have been replaced again.

RE: Kitchen must haves

A couple of my favorites are Electric skillet Microwave Pressure Cooker - great for cooking roasts or beans quickly. 1/2 hour and everyone thinks you spent hours.

RE: what could be the problem

I would take her in for a checkup, but once given the all clear, start looking at other things. Does she have worms? That might be the reason for weight loss? Or maybe her teeth hurt when she eats? Are you feeding her enough? Check the back of the can. Maybe she needs more food. I found that as my cat got older, he wanted away from the other younger cats to sleep. He also wanted soft places - possibly arthritis or painful joints? The biggest issue I see is the depositing in wrong places. I would think this is a behavior issue as she only does it in specific places - laundry basket or on top of the washer. Do other cats use the same litter box or have you changed the litter brand lately? Does she want her own box? I found that as my cat got older, he didn't want other cats in the same box where before he didn't mind. Try sitting a small box on top of the washer and see what she does. So you don't have litter in your washer, I would probably place a sheet or something under the box that covers the whole upper surface.

RE: KFC Chicken Pot Pies

I don't know. We have a place called Lee's Chicken that makes a better pot pie than KFC. In fact, I'd choose most of their food over KFC, Church, Popeye any day. Of course it depends on the branch. The ones north of us are in a different management zone and taste completely different. I haven't liked the food from those branches, but Piqua, Sidney, Bellefontaine, and New Carlisle are really good.

RE: Low Bridges - Avoidance!

The truckers atlas is not going to give you heights on county (back) roads, but will on state roads that are going to be travelled by semis.

RE: Picture of the weekend

I see you have one of those too. One of our dogs has a fit with the squeaky balls. Won't stop until she can remove that squeaker.

RE: Food Storage Containers

To help remove smells from containers, you might try this. Take some newspaper (black and white only), crumple it up and put in the container. Sprinkle in some baking soda. Put the lid on and shake for a few seconds. Set aside for a week. Don't open until a week has passed. Don't know why, but this works. This can be used for refrigerators, freezers, etc or any appliance that is not being used but don't want smells to occur.

RE: Other pets or pests? Racoons!

The scout solution for critters was taking the cooler and tying a string to it and hoisting it up into a tree. Did it work? I remember camping one summer as a teen and the skunks coming to visit about 5PM. They continued to visit the rest of the night. The food was actually locked in the vehicles. We were in tents and I'm sure my sister will never forget her tent visitor that evening. The rest of the girls happened to be out when the skunks first came visiting and decided to check out the sleeping arrangements. That was the last time we went camping at that campground. I've only been to a couple campgrounds since that have a real problem. Most have containers that are sealed to keep out coons and skunks and that helps. They are animals I don't want to play too much with - they carry rabies and if you see one out during the day, stay away from it. It is probably sick if it is in plain site and isn't active.

RE: Lost my baby.

Thanks for the words. The kids are taking it hard. Sandy has been a part of our life for so long and was before we had children. He was the pet that got picked up and carried by a toddler. I almost lost him almost 2 years ago when he had the blood clot that affected his rear. He regained most of the use of his legs but always had a limp afterwards. The hardest thing is not hearing his "meow". Today, my son was hollering for me and saying "mom". I was in the other end of the house and it sounded like Sandy. The kids would always say "mom, Sandy wants you" when he would meow, because it sounded like "mom". For the last few months, Sandy refused to eat any hard food unless it was a "treat". I think they hurt his teeth. I fed him only soft canned food and he liked the turkey flavored. Of course, it didn't compare to the real thing. "Baby Kitty" keeps looking for his buddy and doesn't understand when he can't find Sandy. "Baby Kitty" is the blind baby that Sandy took under his wing. If Baby wanted something, Sandy would share with him or protect him from the other dogs or cats so that he got first pick. It was amazing, because Sandy would swat at the other cats and not allow them near him, even before "Baby" came into the house. It was like Sandy knew that "Baby" needed a parent to help him. Without Baby, I think Sandy would have died last fall. Right before I brought "Baby" in, Sandy started going downhill, but "Baby" seemed to give him a reason to live. It was not unusual to see them curled up together on the couch. If I called "Baby", both came running and Sandy would wait until "Baby" got his food first then he would go to his. Toward the end, Sandy started having problems with his rear legs again and didn't want to move much. He really slowed down the last few days. "Baby" couldn't understand why Sandy didn't want to play and go exploring with him. A couple hours before Sandy died, Baby laid down beside Sandy and Sandy laid his leg across "Baby" and held him. They laid like that for about a half hour before "Baby" got up. "Baby" came back about 15 minutes before Sandy died and laid back down for a few more minutes. Sandy made the special meow that he made when "Baby" was near and "Baby" sat next to me until the end. It was like he knew but now he's lost. I miss my big "Baby" but the "Baby Kitty" has been a comfort. I see the little things that Sandy taught him and those help.

Lost my baby.

My kitty, Sandy left us tonight. I've had him 15 1/2 years. I got him when he was 6 weeks old. I got him the day I found out we were expecting our oldest daughter. He's the one that used to come get me when she needed something. He's the one that taught a puppy to catch mice. He's the one who was the lone house cat for 13 years, but then took the young ones under his paws and taught them how to catch mice. About three months ago, he decided he wanted to help the little blind kitten and helped it learn some skills. While he would growl at the other cats, he only nuzzled the little one and would lay down and hold it. He had a problem in August 2010 and lost the use of his hind legs for a few days. The vet said he thought it was probably a blood clot, but was surprised that Sandy regained most of the use back. In the last few months, Sandy hasn't wanted picked up because of arthritis, but he would still come lay on your lap or lay on the pillow next to my head at night. The last couple of weeks, he just wanted to be petted and made over. Tonight, he wanted held and would cry if I tried to put him down. It's just a matter of time, he's breathing really slow. It's so hard to know the end is near. It's been an hour since I first posted and he's gone. I know he's at peace now, but it's so hard to lose an animal that you've had for years. At the end, he was still trying to purr and would make that special sound if he couldn't feel my hand. It alwsys sounded like he was saying "mom".

RE: Dawn Dish Soap for Fleas?

I found the diatonimus earth today at TSC in the poultry feed row. It is the food grade stuff, so you might want to check there. If you have a seizure or allergic dog, you might want to try that route. One of our dogs is allergic to fleas. She collapsed while on Frontline because of flea bites and the allergic reaction and it wasn't near the time to put a new dose on. We were on a monthly schedule and had put it on the week before.

RE: HATE flexileads

A that area of Kentucky brings back memories. Seems like every time we take I-64 through Kentucky, we hit bad weather. Twice we have missed tornados by less than a mile. Both times we had a truck camper. Once was during the night and the second was while on the road. We pulled off the interstate at an exit because of the rain and found abandoned gas stations.

RE: Shasta and the propane alarm

Did you know that there are a lot of things that will set those off. We discovered that when we had our truck camper. Ours was below the refrigerator and depending on what was in there, certain odors would set it off. Cauliflower seemed to be one of the worst offenders. My husbands truck sitting anywhere near the camper would set it off (a little exhaust blowing in the door). For awhile it started going off every night about 2 am. Fitured out that it was the stove and a small leak in one of the valves. Didn't do it during the day, just at night.

RE: Pasta Water....

Look up homemade wallpaper paste and you might change your mind. Hot water, flour, cold water, and maybe some sugar and you have a glue that is better than some on the market. I'm not sure I want that in my tanks. I don't put pasta water down any of my sinks (home or camper). If you let it set until it's cool it may be fairly solid, depending on how much water you used. You can also use it as a natural thickner for recipes instead of flour. And don't forget that you can make a natural paper glue from it (paper mache and such).

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Take Missy to see Doug and tell him he recommendeded that you get a second opinion so you took him up on his offer. Seriously, I would check with another vet to be sure.

RE: Gluten Free Recipes

Go to the local library and check out Living Gluten Free for Dummies. I did - wanted to see if reducing flour would have an effect on family health.

RE: Landing Gear Troubleshooting

Might try some local junk yards for parts. Occasionally they will get rvs, at least in the midwest. Might check with a company that is making and selling farm trailers. The goosenecks would have some type of jacks and might be the same.
