RE: Camping with a C-pap

I know that I can buy a battery pack for my machine (Respironics) that is supposed to get you through a couple of nights. What sort of portable battery/power source were you using? How long did it last? How were you planning to/recharging it while camping?

RE: Beer & wine in Canada & Alaska

I am not sure if you can get that wine here in British Columbia but there are over 200 Wineries and Vineyards here. Might be the time to try something new?

RE: norcold fridge problem

I've been having the same trouble for the last week while out in the bush. What we noticed, was the same thing as the OP. When on gas and when the fridge had to relight, it often failed and threw up the "F" code. When I noted this I also used a couple of words starting with the "F". What interested me, was that the fault would only occur at night or on days when it was cold. Once the weather improved, the fridge worked just fine. We're home now and will have to do some investigating. http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/10404/t2502.gif

RE: RV Extension Cord

I need one at home so I have it and take it with me.
This has so far ensured that I have never needed it.
We also have some longer hoses for the same reason.
I've yet to need any extensions at campgrounds we've stayed at. Mind you, we don't stay at many of them as we prefer to be off the grid.

RE: Canadian currency exchange

You will probably find that most places in Canada will except your US cash at most stores. We up here do not have such an aversion to US cash as stores in the US have for Canadian cash.
x2 Especially since the dollars are pretty much at par.

RE: Does CB radio make sense for remote areas of BC?

The interesting language from the truckers is on the LAD channels now. VHF/UHF? It's late and I can't remember which one or what the frequencies are. I listen in to know what the roads are like and where the county mounties are. I also get to learn new words sometimes.
Haven't seen a CB in a loooong time. I wouldn't invest in one. JMHO

RE: BC Ferries or Anacortes ferry?

Thanks to all. We have made reservations for tomorrow. A lot cheaper than the BC Ferry to Vancouver too. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-happy020.gif

BC Ferries or Anacortes ferry?

We are leaving Vancouver Island and headed down to Washington to check out Camping World and Cabela's. We have never taken the ferry from Sidney to Anacortes. We are wondering if it is RV friendly.
Any comments? Thanks for your help

RE: Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay

So many ferries, so little time. You could spend a lot of vacation time just riding the large number of ships in the area.

RE: Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay

It may be possible to get to Nanaimo faster via Sidney, but it would require making connections just right.
http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-think005.gif I don't know of any ferry running from Sidney (Swartz Bay) to Nanaimo (Departure Bay or Duke Point). There is a small one that runs between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay. Brentwood Bay is near Sidney. It just saves you driving over the Malahat though (beautiful views, but lots of hills and corners). You'd still need to get over to Vancouver Island though.
On the news last night, they mentioned something about the Duke Point terminal being up and running again in the near future. Today? This week????

RE: Fresh water tanks

How much water can you carry now?
I am learning that trailers all have different sized tanks, some can carry 10 gallons while others carry over 100!
This is something I did not know about until after we bought our trailer.
Happy camping,

RE: Drinking Water ?

We drink from our freshwater tank and cook with it too. I've also been known to fill the tank with a non-white hose. We're still alive and kicking.

RE: Carrying water in TT

My trailer came with a tank for water. I like the water I have at home. I carry as much of it as I can when I go away. Lord only knows what sort of water you'll find when you get where you're going. http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-eatdrink003.gif

RE: Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay

Tsawwasen is the easiest one to get to from Seattle. Far, far less traffic to deal with and only a couple of turn offs to deal with. As for which ferry route to take, Duke Point puts you about two hours ahead/further up island. However, it also means that you will miss all of the great stuff to see in Victoria.
The run up the Cassiar is great. We've done it many times as we live not too far away from it on Highway 16. Are you planning to take the ferry back down, or are you going back down via the Fraser canyon? I guess you could also run down the Alcan and then down through Alberta.

RE: Inverter for a Pioneer 18T6

If the "breathing machine" is a C-PAP they virtually all will work on 12v with a adapter. I use a Resperonics System One Auto and have installed a power plug (cigarette lighter) plug on the side of our bed frame. I found a always hot 12v power source under the bed I tapped into for power. Contact cpap.com they have 12v adapters for most c-pap machines that have a power plug on them. They cost about $25.00.
Jim
Same thoughts here. I too use a Respironics machine. I installed a 12 volt outlet beside my side of the bed specifically for my CPAP machine. It's way quieter than the inverter which had a noisy fan that ran continuously. It is also a more efficient way to power your CPAP as you're not converting DC to AC and then back to DC.
