RE: Upgrading Televisions?

I just replaced our CRT TV in our MH. I asked our local dealer if the the original CRT TV was rated for RV’s. He said that it wasn’t. Perhaps that is why it failed after 6 years. Our dealer had flat screen TV’s for sale and I asked if they were rated for an RV and he said no. We purchased our replacement LED/LCD TV from Best Buy. A LED TV is mostly the same as a LCD TV. The difference is LED uses LED lights to backlight the screen and a LCD TV uses florescent lights to backlight the screen. And a LED TV is slightly lighter and thinner than a LCD TV. I told Best Buy that I was going to install it in an RV and I was concerned about cold and vibrations. They said there shouldn’t be a problem and suggested that I buy their warrantee and told me that if the TV failed I could go to any Best Buy store and either get it fixed or replaced even if installed in an RV. I also asked both our RV dealer and Best Buy about installation. Both would install. The dealer wanted $500.00 and he would weld up a custom TV mount bracket. I believe Best Buy installation was about $200.00. They had one guy at that store that did RV installations and he would have to look at the RV ($100.00 to look) before committing to do the job. Both would block the cavity that housed the old CRT TV. I ended up installing my own LED/LCD TV. See pictures here. Good luck on your project. JD

RE: Tip for making oxidized fiberglass gel coat really POP!

I used Polyglow on my 1973 boat 5 years ago. I was going to buy more Polyglow to do the front end of my MH and redo my boat top. I was advised of a post about RMP. Used it on my MH and it worked very much like Polyglow on my boat. The front end and top of my RV looks great with RMP. Will RMP last like Polyglow? I don't know. After 5 years the top of my boat needs to be redone but the sides still look great. I know, the directions say to add a new coat of Polyglow each year. JD

RE: Washing Waxing the Class A

I just finished applying Red Max Pro 3 to my roof and the front of my RV. It is great for fiberglass but I would not use it on full body paint. JD

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

A long time ago, I was told that the rust colored spots were pollen dropping from of bees. They carry it on their hind legs. Don't know it that is true or not, so don't shoot the messenger. What are you using to apply the RMP? I tried the ZEP Wet Look($28)on the painted rear ramp door of my 20' enclosed and it didn't come out right. Took a half gallon of straight stripper to get it off. I may have put it on too thick with many different applicators. Pollen. That makes sense. I spent most of the afternoon cleaning it up. I'm using an applicator that came with my Poly Glow kit. It is a shammy stretched over a rubber backed plastic block. I'm not sure that RMP3 is exactly the same as Poly Glow but it is not very much different. I believe the key is to put on very thin coats. It is also important to prevent any runs. JD

RE: Portable Satellite System - Security

I bought a cable and two locks that I use to lock up our Winegard Carryout. Never had a problem but maybe the locks prevented someone from taking it. JD

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

I finished coats 3 and 4 of RMP3 on our roof. The problem I had today with applying RMP3 was bee poop. I kept seeing small spots of rust colored drops. It took a while for me to discover it was bee poop. I had to clean the spots off the roof before I applyed the RMP3. I had planned to finish the roof on Saturday but was delayed because of rain. DW and I washed the front, back, and sides of the MH on Saturday in the rain. I also finished coats 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the front roof cap. Tomorrow I wll put RMP3 on the front area below the windshield and start on the back. I don't think I will do the sides as they are looking good as they are. JD

RE: Direct TV

How do you change the zip code on the receiver??? Select “Menu” Select “Parental, Fav’s & Setup” Select “System “ Select “Satellite” Select “Repeat Satellite Setup” Press “-“ Select “Dish Pointing” Enter Zip & Press OK You will see on your screen the coordinates needed to point you antenna at the correct satellite. I was told by a DirecTV Service Tech who was fixing a problem in my stick house that I could change the Zip Code while traveling to pick up local channels. I tried it and it didn’t work. Try changing you Zip Code to 92805. This is the Zip Code for an RV park about a block away from Disneyland. When in LA I change our service address and 92805 is the Zip for that address. LA and New York are the channels beamed to the entire US so you can pick them up almost anywhere in the US. If changing your Zip Code works then your local channels will be replaced with the local channels in LA. I suspect after changing your Zip Code you will still receive your local channels and you will not see the LA channels. Safe Travels JD

RE: Red Max Pro

Here is a picture of my boat four years after applying Poly Glow. It is now five years and the top of my boat needs to be redone. The sides still look great. RMP appears to be very much the same. Only time will tell. In researching RMP I did read a post that went back about a year and RMP was still doing OK. Perhaps others have more history with RMP. Safe Travels. JD

RE: Red Max Pro

After reading that RMP is about the same as Poly Glow I decided to try it on the roof of my RV to see. I cleaned my roof with barkeeper’s friend and applied two coats of RMP yesterday and today. I don't see any difference between RMP and Poly Glow. I will add two more coats tomorrow. I will start on the sides once the top is done. My front end and cap are looking dull. Last year I used wax but I wasn't able to bring back much of a shine so I was going to use Poly Glow till I read about RMP. JD

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Finished cleaning roof today and put on two coats of Red Max Pro 3. As other web postings have said Red Max Pro 3 is very much like Poly Glow. I used Ploy Glow on my boat about 5 years ago and the sides still look great. The top needs to be redone. If I had followed instructions and put on one coat each year the top of my boat would still look good. When I finish the RV I'll redo my boat. Tomorrow two more coats on the roof and then I start on the sides. JD

RE: Direct TV

The problem is that DirecTV Customer Service employees do not understand the company rules and regulations any more than we do and as such whenever you call to have something done like changing the "Service Address" it is the luck of the draw whether you will succeed or not. This is so true. In 2008 when I got my DNS account it was not easy. I don't recall how many DirecTV employees I talked to who were not able to explain their DNS account or sign me up. I almost gave up but somehow I found a DirecTV employee who understood DNS. I explained my frustrations to her and she told me that there were only two employees at DirecTV, at that time that understood DirecTV's rules for DNS. JD

Cleaned 2/3 of my roof today. Ran out of time today. I'll finish the rest of the roof tomorrow. My bad, I didn't clean my roof in the spring when I cleaned the RV and I'm paying for it now. JD

RE: Direct TV

When I started my DirecTV account in 2008 I set up an account for my home and a DNS RV account. I was told that we could deactivate one account while we were using the other. It worked fine while traveling from coast to coast but my troubles began when we were at home for awhile. After a few months DirecTV activated my mobile account without telling me and started billing me for both accounts. I called and talked to them and they told me that I could only deactivate an account for 6 months. After 6 months they will activate the account and start billing. It had only been 4 months and they were billing me. I told them to deactivate my mobile account and I added an item to my calendar to call them before 6 months. 4 months later they sent me another bill for my mobile account. I called and cancelled my mobile account. DirecTV couldn't understand why I wanted to cancel my mobile account. I tried to explain but they didn't appear to understand. I don't know if DirecTV has changed the way they do business but I decided I didn't need the problems of managing such an account. I still have DirecTV at my house and my former DNS account receiver is active on my home account. It is still in my RV most of the time. We use it in our den when the grandkids are over. Last winter I changed my service address while we were in LA in Southern California and everything worked fine. The nice thing about using an LA address for a temporary service address is it is one of their nationwide feeds so it will work anywhere we travel till we arrive back home. If DirecTV had changed their DNS service I would be interested in signing up once more.

RE: Jacks down light fixed

My RV is in the shop as I write this for a jack problem. On rare occasions my jacks will not power up and I can't retract my jacks. The first time it happened DW and I were camping at Camp Pendleton, CA. I couldn't get my jacks up. After several hours of looking I finally called Coach Net for assistance. While waiting for Coach Net to call a tech I crawled under the dash and I moved wires around. This worked and we were able to retract our jacks. Since that episode it has happened several more times. The RV repair shop called today to say they found that the power wire has a faulty connection.
