RE: Gulfstream Enduramax

Expand your search on the forum too, just search for "Gulfstream" you'll find plenty to read about. Now forums will generally gather more negative comments then positive, but seems that Gulfstream has a bit of a reputation over the years I've been here of mixed service and warranty issues. The fact your dealers both steered you away should be telling you something. My local guy did that with another brand and sure enough a couple months later they dropped that brand. Dealer will try to go to bat for you with problems but if the manufacturer is fighting them then it's going to be a problem. I do not believe there has been an RV produced that doesn't have some issues. The challenge is buying one that wasn't built on a Friday by our friend Gilligan.

RE: Campground Etiquette - pass-throughs and back-ins

Never bothers me when I see a small rig in a pull-thru, they got that site first - fair enough. One of the best things about a pull-thru site is that my RV is blocking the road, I don't have to deal with other peoples dogs barking at mine and I feel I get more privacy. That said it doesn't matter to me anymore, I'd rather have a site with a view or privacy then worry about backing up or not.

RE: fresh water tank not filling

Another tip to try is to fill it full or close, then add several bags of ice. Then drive it around, start and stop often so you can really use the ice (before it melts) to knock off crud from the walls. Get several of the big bags of ice (Costco super size).

RE: What do you use to clean your lcd tv's, monitors, etc

I use Windex. Never any problems.
Never use a cleaning agent such as Windex on your LCD. Cleaners like Windex contain ammonia, which can, over time, damage your display's panel, also never use paper towels!
A slightly damp, lint-free cloth, like the ones for with glasses, or a microfiber cloth should do the trick. Commercial cleaners are usually just 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixtures, you can mix that yourself and save a few of bucks. Remember never spray any liquid directly at your screen. Dampen the cloth instead.
We have a monitor at work with horrible streaks that are now permanent because a staff person cleaned their monitor with Windex on a regular basis. The streaks are very noticeable now, and make the monitor almost worthless if there is any reflection.

RE: Oregon Toys, and riding...

From the link I posted:
Oregon will honor off road permits from the following states:
Alaska
Arizona
California
Idaho
Illinois
Indiana
Missouri
Montana
Nevada
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Utah
Vermont
Washington *
Wisconsin
* Anyone riding in Oregon is required to have an off road permit/decal for off road areas. This is a state law. Reciprocity is granted to those individuals who have a valid off road permit/decal. This is the only permit which we accept in our reciprocity agreement with other states. Washington's ORV permit will be recognized in Oregon. Dual sport motorcycles registered for "Dual Use" and displaying their license plate qualify under the reciprocity agreement.

RE: Oregon Toys, and riding...

2) Have my kid take a hands-on training
3) Register each ATV (believe its ~$10/each).
#2 If your kids have taken safety course it should count. Appears that approved coures ATV Safety Institute (ASI) – Class I and Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) – Class III both count or you can take one of the evaluation courses.
#3 if you are registered in CA you don't need to worry about buying an Oregon permit. Reciprocity info
If you are not sure about your Safety Course you can call or email.
Q: Who do I contact for General ATV information?
A: ATV Hotline, 877-7SAFELY (877-772-3359) or use the email address: atv.info@state.or.us
Q: Who do I contact for ATV Safety & Education information?
A: John Lane, ATV Safety and Education Program Coordinator, (503) 986-0585

RE: Best Free Firewall?

If you are really worried about protection skip the software firewall and get a good hardware firewall router. The software firewalls are good to determine phone home programs, but a hardware firewall offers greater protection.

RE: 2012 Shockwave 23FSMX PDI

Glad you did the PDI hopefully you didn't sign off on any loan docs too, that give you more leverage. If not, at least you got it spotted before you got it home and had to haul it back.

RE: I use my toy hauler for bbq not RVs...fuel tank question?

I helped run a KCBS event some 20 years ago, of course at one point the power blew during the evening. Those guys that had generators didn't worry about it, the others were frantic. Good luck with your next competition!

RE: I use my toy hauler for bbq not RVs...fuel tank question?

Do you not have a built in generator? If you don't then they might not have put fuel in it, but there is a chance they did to test the fuel pump too. If you can avoid cooking next to the fuel pump area that would be good, but if you are on the other side I'd think you will be fine. But safety is always good.
As the others have said, some stabilizer and fuel is probably a better way go in the long run.

RE: Clean glass shower doors

I hit the shower door about once a year with CLR. Trying to get the kids to wipe it down isn't worth the effort and CLR does the job.

RE: How to determine used TH value.

You're thinking of hauling a toy hauler with a Jeep Liberty? I own a Liberty, nice grocery getter but I know I didn't feel comfortable even towing my boat behind our Liberty. That is a lot of flat frontal area on that trailer, going to be like towing a brick.
The link you need for NADA for that year and model is here
Without any options Avg retail is $6630, so once you add in the real options - don't add what are normal items. They are asking $10k so you have some negotiating room in that price even with options.

RE: ramp latching

FYI you don't need Photoshop, just upload the the photo to your chosen host, then link to it here. When posting here add in 640 to the width setting so it doesn't post HUGE and you're good to go. Photos hosted here would use bandwidth and as a free forum, well you can do the math.

RE: Oregon Toys, and riding...

youngtravelers - great reminder! We're heading to the coast for Spring Break again and taking one of my sons friends with us, reminded him last night to take the ATV course - though he's old enough not to need it, I require it.
We ride almost exclusively in Oregon and frankly I support the rules they implemented for their State. Nanny State? Sure somewhat when it comes to ATVs, however requiring a simple online course is not unreasonable to make sure that all children & parents know basic safety rules of riding. We had to do the same thing for our trip to Utah. One of the key things that Oregon did that other States didn't is to overrule the Feds when it came to the rideciously ATV engine sizing system. Instead, as already stated, your child can ride an appropriate size ATV based on their body and experience size, not based on the engine size. The Oregon ATV community was under immense pressure after another child was killed on an ATV who was riding without parental supervision. They fought hard for a balance approach as well as changing the sizing issue.
As for Energy Drinks and Gas, well that's another issue.

RE: CCleaner for the Mac... finally!

Tom, you are right that same option to mark cookies to be protected during the purge is an available on CCleaner for the Mac and one of my favorite features.
I prefer to use this type of system rather then dealing with various cookie blockers and others. I tried another cookie blocker that had similar feature, but it was very time consuming to setup.
The feature in Safari is nice but wipes all cookies; good and bad. The other plus to how CCleaner implements it is that it covers all browsers you may use; Safari, Firefox, Opera & Chrome as well as ones like SeaMonkey & Camino.

RE: CCleaner for the Mac... finally!

Will do Tom, ran it last night and all is well this morning with browsers and various apps. Similar interface to the Windows version, though less options since there are less items that need to be tweaked (i.e. no registry).
CCleaner was always about cleaning out the internet cache and cookies as well as app left overs. CCleaner for the Mac, just like Windows, allows you to selectively keep good cookies from sites you visit (like RV.net) and purge the advertising ones.
I don't see an option run at start-up, but the Mac can do that on it's own. The down side is that I rarely reboot or shut down my mac so it wouldn't run anyway.
I'll leave the system maintenance to the Mac itself or long time trusted programs like Onyx, but for the quick purging of internet garbage so far I'm happy. Time is the best test, we'll see after a month.

CCleaner for the Mac... finally!

One of the few programs I really miss from my Windows days was CCleaner; it's still an program I install on all office Windows computers to keep things cleaned out as users reboot their computers has finally been developed for the Mac.
