RE: How do you disassemble couch?

I'm not familear with your unit, but I took my jacknife couch out of the RV, buitl my own couch with storage using only the matress and cushions from the jacknife. I don't know much about the fold out type, but the jacknife will come apart. First determine if you can get the two pieces (frames with seat and maybe the backrest frame if you are changing the color or pattern) out through the door. 1 Unfasten clamps from the floor 2 Remove hinge pieces (steel bars,the hinges are welded on the frames) 3 Remove leg assembly Mark or write down where each of the pieces go for reassembly. My RV has a rear kitchen and door so it was a challenge of csareful manouvering. Cheers Willey

I talked to my mechanic (who pulls his horse trailer with a DP) and he said that certain smaller Cs and B+s would work with some welding and an upgraded hitch. He suggested no slides to keep the weight on the tow vehicle down and more balanced and also mentioned wheelbase and overhang and a few other things. I would definitely run it by him before I planned on towing. Your Mechanic is right on the money! We have a 24 footer on a E350 Cutaway. It's capable of towing a small boat and that's about it. The E450 chassis is better for towing. Ours is a Ford and I don't have the knowledge to comment on other makes. Getting an RV without slides might take a lot of searching, seems to becoming a must have, and resales without slides is a drawback. My trailer loaded with show equipment and the horse and pony weighs 6300lbs. My understanding is that most Cs (and Bs that come with hitches) come with a 5000lb hitch, though many can't or shouldn't even pull that much, while others may be able to pull that and a little more. Right I actually started looking at roadtreks and pleasureway vans, but I really need a functional bathroom that I can take a shower in. Also, for the money it seems like you get a lot more living space in a C or B+. I'm sure the quality is the reason for the higher price tag on those types of vehicles but I don't need a lot...just good enough. Living space in a 24 ft B+ is not the roomiest without slides. It's adequate for 2 people to live in temporary. Yes there are showers but a 24 footer will be limited to a wet bathroom. Next consideration is the holding tanks. You won't have the capacity of the A's and maybe the large C's. So depending where you park and how long you stay will have limitations on having full showers. Ours was stated to sleep 5 persons. In my honest opinion it is capable of comfortably sleeping 2 and a Newfoundland dog, and that's it. I know of a couple who take their 3 grandchildren camping with them in an identical rig as ours. The jacknife couch I removed and built one of my own, it looks better, more storage :B (a limitation in B+) and the wife is more comfortable on it. Our longest trip was 1 1/2 months on the roads (no campgrounds) so yes it may be perfect for what you want to do. What are people's thoughts about the C vs. B as far as the overhead bunk? I think it would be very handy to have as far as sleeping space and for extra storage. Or will I regret it because it's prone to leaks and reduces efficiency? FWIW, when I do sleep in the unit, it will be at horse shows and my daughter will sleep beside me, so we don't need a lot of sleeping space. The overhead bed? Well at our ages there's just no way either of us would want climb a ladder to go to bed. (night trips to the bathroom require separate or an island type bed) Also there is that confined space in warmer weather and my wife is a bit claustrophobic so I use the dinette bed setup and she has her own on the reconstructed couch. It only takes a few minutes to change from dining room to bedroom. The extra room and height is a blessing for the longer stays. For us the "B" would be too small (we carry a wheelchair also) and there wouldn't be room enough for the dog. As for extra storage it all depends on the time you will be living in it. If you require many changes of clothes then the B+ is for you. I suggest you go for one with a fiberglass body, they are not prone to leaking. With just me and my daughter and conservative use I am pretty sure we could make it the weekend and just dump on the way out, but with a small unit like that I am confident I could do it if needed. If I had to hitch and unhitch a trailer I definitely could not! :) My wife is a diebetic and has multiple sclerosis accompanied by bowel and bladder problems (frequent use), we both do a complete body wash each morning (sponge bath I believe it's called), we carry extra water in storage and can last without dumping tanks close to a week on the road. We haven't stayed at a campground yet, so you shouldn't have any trouble on weekend trips. Hope this gives you a little insight to life in a 24 footer. Cheers Willey

RE: Canada Camping in October?

There's only the Wal Marts and other parking lots (Zellers, Canadian Tire Stores etc.) stay at the large shopping Malls for your overnights. Most large truck stops have dump sites, propane and if you look desperate maybe water. We toured around NS in November 2006 and had no problem. The Maritimes now days are having the weather we should have had all summer. Cool in the evenings though. Trees are starting to turn in some areas and it promises to be gorgeous with fall colors. I can give you the locations of a few dump sites that will be open (mostly free) for NS and NB provinces. Cheers Willey

RE: crossing into New Brunswick

Closest point of entry for you will be the Calis/ St. Stephen border crossing. Shortest route would appear to be Bar Harbor to Ellsworth then 1A to hwy 179 north to Aurora and hwy 9 to Calis and St Stephen. I have no idea of what those roads are like and it's been years since I was on hwy 9 Maybe someone has a better idea but US1 looks like it meanders all over the state. Willey

We have 2 US2200's in ours since the Spring of 2006 and have no intention of replacing them anytime soon. They are maintained on a regular basis so that may be part of it also. Cheers Willey

Just about any large or fishing seaport, don't worry, you'll see large information signs and directions where ever whale watching cruises are offered, it's a big buisness. Google Nova Scotia Whale watching Google New Brunswick Whale watching Main whale watching I think you'll understand what I meant. Pick a nice clear day these are business people and they know they may as well pack it in if they don't treat their customers decently. Checking the front wheel sensors on your Ford is simple, pulling a front wheel sensor is not, if it's a Super Duty. Too access the sensor you have to remove the brake caliper, then the rotor which is part of the hub assembly, and is one heavy chunk of metal. To check the ABS sensors, you can also use a digital volt meter on AC volts and set the range to 1 volt. Connect the meter to the ABS sensors wires, and spin the wheel. Record the voltage. Both front wheels should register about the same voltage with the same wheel speed. Disconnect the sensor cable and insert the meter leads into the socket Set the meter to AC on the 1 volt range. Jack up a front wheel and spin it by hand. If one is way low compared to the other, set the meter to ohms and measure the resistance of the sensor with the low voltage reading. The resistance across a good ABS sensor will be about 1200 ohms. A bad sensor will read less than 120 ohms and will have to be replaced. If the resistance is good then remove it, and clean it, and clean the mounting surface. Sometimes rust builds up under the sensor and pulls it away from the tone ring giving a low voltage, which can activate the ABS at low speeds. On the Superduty with the Kelsey-Hayes unit, it should be at least .350 volts when you spin the wheel at a decent speed (by hand). One thing that will light the ABS light is the master cylinder fluid being low, or the float switch being bad. Yours will have a double float switch where a high brake fluid level or a low fluid will turn on the Red Brake light as well as the ABS The rear wheel sensor is on the rear end housing, if your speedometer and the overdrive work then it is most likely OK I probably left something out but try those things first. DRL'a daylight Running lights, some states and Provinces have a law that your headlights (or other brightlights ) are to be on while driving. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daytime_running_lamp The simplest thing for you to do is run a direct fused line from the battery (or live all the time circuits) to the radio. 20 amp fuse will be more than required. RE: Intermittent Furnace Frustration [SOLVED]

Yep I've experienced a similar problem like that. Checked everything out the day before leaving. It was a nice day (warm enough) and it all worked. First night out wife (who wasn't feeling well at the time) woke me up because the furnace was blowing cold air. The temprature outside had dropped considerably and it was damm cold. Couldn't get it started no how, so broke out the extra blankets and went to sleep. No way we were quitting our trip so I bought 2 heavy type sleeping bags at the next WM. On the Southern leg it was warmer and the furnace worked (but who needed it then). For the next 3 weeks I checked it out multi times, and it worked every time. On the return trip North again in the cold nights it stopped working again. This time at 2 in the morning I went outside and pounded on the wall and the furnace came on (it worked for the rest of the night). At home I took the cover off to check the sail switch, it checked good, so that left only the air flow. I got the cover off the fan and you wouldn't believe the accumulated dirt stuck in the fan vanes. It was like hardened mud,no doubt decreasing the efficiency of the fan. I soaked each vane with soapy water and cleaned each in turn with Q tips. I haven't had a problem since ,and it will fire up on the coldest day in January. (The problem, just not enough air flow to activate the sail switch) That may or may not be your problem, but if it is, no sense wracking your brain for another problem that may not exist.
