Heater A/C Fan inoperative

My heater A/C fan in my F53 chassis quit working recently, therefore, can't operate the air conditioner. I checked the 3 way resistor in the duct but found it ok. I checked all the fuses that I could find and they were all ok. Have any on you had this problem and what was your solution?

RE: driving from Vermont to Myrtle Beach

I lived in the Hartford, CT area for many years and traveled to MB many times. I took I-84 to Scranton, PA, then I-81 south to Winchester, VA. Then, US 17 to Fredricksburg, VA to I-95. Pretty much clear sailing after that except for construction areas here and there.

RE: Ford V-10 Engine

I have a 2000 Winnebago Chieftain, 35U, with the Ford engine, and I pull a Honda CR/V. I cruise best at 2500-2700 RPMs and try to stay below 3000 rpms, except when I hit a hill or overpass, and it downshifts suddenly, running the tach up to 3800 rpms until I back off the gas pedal. I've been told to cruise at 2000.rpms, but have virtually no torque, and hills become mountains. Am I hurting the engine by cruising at 2700 rpms (65 mph)? What is the convention al wisdom regarding cruising rpms/speed? Also, what is the life expectancy of this engine? Can I reasonably expect to get 0 125,000 miles from it, if I maintain it properly? You can cruise all day at 2750 RPM or 65 MPH. When you approach a hill and the speed starts to drop, I let it downshift around 55 MPH and climb the hill at around 3300 RPM. Steeper hills will require higher RPM in lower gears, but I never let it go above 4000. Lugging the engine at 2000 gives you no torque/HP and is more harmful in my estimation.

RE: Is five years to long to run front tires

I ran my Goodyears for 7 years. Your circumstances can vary, but I would inspect them for sidewall rubber cracking and also in between the tread.

RE: Seriously considering a National Dolphin, few questions

I have a 2001 with 51K miles and I'm not in any hurry to get rid of it.. It has been trouble free.

RE: RV Business-Ford - Read last paragraph

Just spoke with someone that retired from the Ohio plant last year. His words "Look forward to a reasonably higher priced chassis that WILL be problamatic for the first 2-3 years" I asked why problomatic and he said that any new start up will be flawed at least for the first few months and the chassis only assemblies are shipped out as is for the rv mfg and rv dealer to shake out. This can show up for several years due to the time a chassis is made and when the complete unit shows up on the dealers lot. :( I would expect that.

RE: Opinions of the Triton V10

After 10 years and 51K miles, excellent. Never had an issue with the engine or tranny.

RE: Front engine diesel Tiffins

Let's see. I drive my RV around 5000 per year. It's a gasser and averages 7.7 MPG and that figures to be roughly 650 gals of gas per year. If I had a diesel and got 9.8 MPG, that would mean my fuel consumption for the year would be 510 gals. So I could conceivably save 140 gals of fuel at $3.95 for a savings of $553.00. Considering that maintenance costs on a diesel is far more than a gasser, why would I buy one? I would have to shell out $35 to $50K more for a diesel motorhome over a gasser. Everyone claims that gassers can't keep up on the hills and that's baloney. I keep up with the trucks any day.

RE: F-53 Brake issue

I think I know the answer. Being an older motorhome, I suspect that the brake fluid was never flushed every 3 years or so. Consequently, water was absorbed into the brake fluid causing corrosion in the master cylinder. The rust pits then allowed the brake fluid to bypass the seals. When you applied the brakes, the pedal went to the floor. YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR BRAKE FLUID FLUSHED AND REPLACED THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM PERIODICALLY. THAT APPLIES TO THE FAMILY CAR TOO!

RE: Honda CRV

The A/C on my 2002 CRV works fine, as does the rest of the vehicle.

RE: Goodyear G670 Junk!!

I'm half way through my second set of GY tires with absolutely no problems. I haven't touched the alignment on the coach since I bought it new. I bought GY because I've heard too many people on this forum who said that Michelin would not stand behind their products. These days, customer support and satisfaction are a thing of the past with most companies.

RE: Driving up hills in a gasser

torque peak is at 3250 RPM. That' the sweet spot you should try to operate near.

RE: Driving up hills in a gasser

Here's what I do. I generally don't use cruise control because even when you come to a slight grade when the speed drops a couple of MPH, it downshifts. I think that is unecessary. When approaching a grade: When the speed drops to 55 MPH, I either apply more throttle so that it downshifts from overdrive or manually take it out of overdrive until the road flattens out and the speed increases. Then upshift to OD. If the grade is steeper and the speed in 3rd gear(in my case) drops to 40 MPH or less, then I manually shift to 2nd gear with a LIGHTER throttle. I generally never let the engine exceed 4000 RPM, and most of the time it's less than 3500. I can keep up with the trucks ok and sometime even pass them on steep hills.

RE: Real honest gas mileage

Gee, that's not much better than my 36 foot Topical towing my car. Also, driving at 55 MPH doesn't help. I drive around 62, which is closer to the top of the torque curve and this seems to be a sweet spot for me. I sure couldn't use your experience as justification to downsize.

Real honest gas mileage

C'mon guys, what is the honest average gas mileage over the long term that you get with your B+ rigs such as Phoenix Cruisers, Coach House Platinums, and rigs of that type with Ford E-450 chassis? I know, some will say 15 mpg but that's an exageration. I once got 9.5 with my rig, but that was with a 50 MPH tailwind.
