RE: Questions about my Advantium micro/oven

Does your shelf have little rubber feet on it or is the entire side of the shelf bent down to form the "legs"? I have some kitchen cabinet shelfs that are taller than 1" that might work until I find something better.

RE: Questions about my Advantium micro/oven

Thanks. Looks like I am off to the outlet centers kitchen store to see what I can find. I am going to have to try something out in, like store bought cookie dough, to get a feel for the thing. Treasa

RE: Questions about my Advantium micro/oven

What a pain! I guess GE doesn't think we cook large quantities of food in these things! I can't imagine cooking a casserole for a potluck in two separate pans. Guess I will do the same thing mytime is doing.
I sent an email to GE asking this question and when they respond I will certainly let them know what a dumb thing this was.

Questions about my Advantium micro/oven

We just picked up a new-to-us Class A and it has a GE Advantium oven. I was able to download the users manual from GE but it doesn't answer the biggest question I have. Is there a way to turn the turntable off so I can cook using my 9x13 casserole dish? I have looked at all the buttons and skimmed the manual and can't find anything. Any help is appreciated.

RE: Best Kentucky distillery

Since Jack Daniel's is in Tenn and all the others are in Kentucky it would make a heck of a day trip! I agree they do the best tour without the tasting. We did the bourbon trail and had fun with it but that takes a couple of days. During the summer most of the distilleries aren't really in production and they don't really take you through the entire process. Each one has something different.

RE: Booking campsites ahead of time

Many of the National Parks have campgrounds that do not take reservations but these usually do not have full hookups. The full hookup sites are the ones that fill up first. Your should research the parks you want to visit before you leave and find out which ones those are.
A hint, don't try to pull into a park on Saturday and find a spot. Plan of hitting a non-reservable park around Wednesday and staying over the weekend. You will find the weekdays are not as crowded. We try to stay away from the "big" parks on weekends if we can.

RE: Whipped Cream Recipe Wanted

Add a little cream of tartar to the cream when whipping and it will last longer. As already stated - make sure everything is cold when you start.

RE: Desktop vs notebook

Everyone brought up some good points I hadn't thought about. Looks like we will be checking out laptops on Black Friday. Thanks for the help.

RE: Desktop vs notebook

If you currently have a desktop how do you secure it during travel? Do you have built in or what?

Desktop vs notebook

We currently have a notebook computer that we need to upgrade. We are fulltimers so we travel a lot. I like the idea of a desktop as you can get more computer for less money. The notebook is more portable. The desk we use for the computer is the one located behind the passenger seat that we put down each time we move. We don't have a built in desk. Which would you recommend?
If you have a desktop how do you lock down the tower when you are moving? Or is this a problem?
Any help is appreciated.

RE: window covering for windshield

RV Quick Shades are inexpensive and easy to install. We have owned ours for about 7 years and the suction cups still work just fine.

RE: Silent Valley Club RV Park, Banning, CA

The road up is steep, windy and narrow but having said that, I know many people who own big rigs who go there on a regular basis. Just take it slow and easy.

RE: Wife needs help with convection oven!

Tell her that when baking she needs to use the shelfs that should have been included. This allows the heat to circulate completely around the food. Also, it is necesary to preheat the oven for baking.

RE: Fulltimer's advice, warnings, and ideas.

Since you have 7 year to go it might be too early to purchase a rig. You never know when you will be reassigned. If the base you are on has a Famcamp I would visit it. Talk to the camp host and others in the park. Most of them will be fulltimers.
Now is the time to start gathering info and getting things ready. Check out everything you can on the internet. Look into state residency now so you can plan for later. Decide what type of rig is good for you. Visit Rv dealers and 'pretend' you are living in each. What makes most sense to you.
My DH is a retired Marine and the health insurance is the biggest benefit we use. I think Tricare Standard is better for traveling than Prime but then you need a supplemental program. There are many out there that are not too pricy.
Feel free to PM me if you want. - Treasa

RE: Regional bank suggestion for all SE US

Go to a credit union. It doesn't have to be a national one, you can get cash all over the place if necessary. Most credit unions belong to a group like Star. Also you can get cash at Walmart and grocery stores. We fulltime and bank with a small credit union. Put most everything on credit cards and pay in full at end of the month via e-banking.

RE: Outside lights on ALL NIGHT LONG

I completely agree with the OP. Just as there is quiet time there should be dark time! Even those 12v porch lights can be annoying. When everything else is dark that light can be piercing! And don't get me started on the lights around the bottom of the rig. Do you need those to crawl underneath it? I have watched people sit outside without the lights on but the minute they go inside here come the lights! Just think, if people didn't use so much electricity maybe the campground fees would be less. Treasa

RE: Overlooked chicken. Looking for help and DON'T DO THIS

Crumpled newspaper. Hey, if you have a subscription to one you already have it. Replace every day, it will take a few days. Wipe everything down with baking soda and water first.
We left fish in ours for about a month. Whew what a smell!

RE: Around-the-Spare Bike Carrier

No, you need an adaptor. We have one that we used last year from CA to NC and back. The ladies bike will hang a bit low so steep drives can be an issue, the tire drags.

RE: Medicare Question

If you are covered by insurance at work you can opt-out of part B until you retire. There should be no penalty fee for doing that. I would contact Medicare and talk directly to them. I would also figure out what I have to pay for part B from Oct until you retire. If it will only be a month or two I would go ahead and sign up for part B. If it is a long time wouldn't that money be better spent another way?
