RE: Who Should Pay?

After discussions with Good Sam, I am a happy camper again.
The company that was contracted for my service call is being investigated wrt the charges billed to me.
I hope I don't need to use my ERS, but if I do, I am confident that I will be treated fairly by Good Sam. Thank you Zach for looking into this matter.

RE: Looking for Campground Close to Erie, PA

When we go to Erie we stay at Lampe Campground and Marina (separate areas). It is on the water, has nice size grassy sites with paved drives. I think it is run by the city or county. My notes say to try and get site 21 as the vegetation along the back of the site is lower and you get a nicer waterfront view. We Paid $30 for W/E last July. It is located on the east side of Erie.
A few years ago we spent a night at Sara's C.G. It is located just outside of Presquelle Park. If you decide to go there, you definitely want to be in the newer area that is behind some restaurants and not on the water.

Who Should Pay?

Who should pay when a service man does not follow explicit directions to your location. In this case, only one right hand turn was required and it's exact location was given as 500 ft. past a very recognizable landmark. This along with the name of the street to turn on in a low traffic area. Of course, he got lost. We were told ERS would only cover one hour of time and we ended up being billed for 2.2 hours. After disputing the charge, they dropped it down to 2.0 hours. I know the drive to our location should have been less than .5 hour, probably 20 minutes - service time was 20 minutes. I hate to pay for unfair charges and also don't like my ERS service paying more than necessary.
Has this happened to you and how did you handle it?
Sorry for the rant.

RE: Planning vacation near Dollywood TN - Aug 20th

We stayed 12 days at River Plantation last fall and thought it was a great c.g.
Our site, which was huge, backed on to the river. If your boys like to fish, it would be a great spot for you. There are "back" ways to get to Dollywood. Ask for directions at the front desk. This c.g. was quite convenient - about l mile to W.M.

RE: Outdoor Travel, Hamilton

We looked at trailers at Outdoor Travel but found nothing that interested us and by the sounds of it, lucky we didn't buy from them ..WHEW!!.
We ended up buying from Ruston's RV @ Hiway 6 and 403 and all I can say is they are FANTASTIC! All the way from the initial purchase to some warranty work, they have been really really good! I would highly recommend them even just for service as their service supervisor Steve is very friendly and helpful.
And one of the owners, Rob, was great with the sales experience. He was non pushy and very patient and great at answering any and all questions we had about RV'ing.
X2 We bought our Lance Truck Camper there back in 1999 (wish we still had it) and they were super people to deal with. Sounds like Rob has not changed since we bought from him.

RE: Sunny Brook RV Park, South Haven, Mi

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions. I am somewhat familiar with the area - we enjoy going to Michigan to camp. I agree this c.g. looks very nice - I just wondered if there was some catch to the advertising. Think we will give it a try.

Sunny Brook RV Park, South Haven, Mi

At an RV show, we picked up an invitation to visit this park free for a week. I have also seen ads for the same offer in magazines. The park looks very nice. Has anyone been for a "FREE" stay? If so, is there a catch or charges we should be aware of?

RE: Crossing into Canada and saving the Vegetables

LOL!!! Too much work? It took about 10 minutes. And I'm with Ranger Jay, I usually don't have any fruits or vegetables when I get to the border, but this time it didn't work out so well. I bought the veggies and then we ate out a lot that week. Oh well.
Crossing here (at Sweetgrass) was different than crossing at Niagara Falls. There it was all fruits, veggies, alcohol, they went down the whole list of questions.
Here it was only cigarettes and alcohol, and the shotgun. Once they heard about the shotgun, all interest in anything else disappeared.
It was actually easy. We pulled over and stopped before we went through the border. DH went into the US Border/Customs and took the paperwork for the shotgun. (We printed out the forms from the website and had them filled out and ready. You do not sign them until they see you in person). US customs gives you a small document with a stamp on it. They sent an official out to look at the shotgun and verify the serial number.
We were then cleared to go through Canadian Customs. They asked the three questions...alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. We were directed to a lot to park and DH had to take the firearm paperwork inside and pay the $26 fee. We then drove off into the sunset.
It took about 1.5-2 hours. There were a lot of Canadians bringing in cars they had bought in the states so the inside lines took a little wait time. Not too bad. I stayed in the coach, read a book, and had a bloody mary. :-)
Having a Bloody Mary is definitely the best way to use up tomatoes and celery!
Edit note; I hit edit instead of 'Quote' by mistake.

RE: Crossing into Canada and saving the Vegetables

Have never had a problem bringing food across the border into Ontario at any of the crossings. They never ask a thing about food, only liquor and cigarettes.
Lots of Ontario people go across to US on a regular basis to stock up on specific items that are cheaper.

RE: The Latest Trend???

Holiday Rambler (maybe Monaco) has a Class A with a slide in a slide. I first saw one a couple of years ago at an RV show - since have seen one on a dealer's lot. It might not have been a current year but one that has been around for a couple of years waiting for a buyer.

RE: Spare tire for diesel pusher?

Our tire size is 19.5 but we carry an unmounted spare. We have it wrapped tight in that stretchy shrinkwrap and store it under the bed.
Wrapping it means there is no rubber smell in the M.H.
We hoped we would never need a spare, but last December we had 2 blowouts, 2 days apart on tires that were 4 years old and low mileage. You can't rule out road hazards. It took several hours to locate a replacement for the second blowout as we had already used our spare. This was in North Florida - not a remote area.

RE: Charleston SC Parking for Tow Vehicle

There is indoor parking at a reasonable cost right at the Visitor Center. They even accommodate RV's. You might want to check into that - tours leave from there as well. Several years ago we parked our full size truck camper there with no problem. Two years ago just had tow car.

RE: Round Kitchen Sinks

I keep hearing, double sinks with one side smaller than the other, is my Forester the only one out there with both sides the same size? Large
Interesting you say that - we had a Lance truck camper that had 2 large double sinks - kind of spoiled me. Our Class A has a large and a smaller sink. It does work for us as both are a good size but it seems strange to me that a small unit had space for 2 large sinks and a bigger A does not.
I still think I would have trouble with a round sink. If you only have one (round) sink, where do you put your wet dishes before you dry them?
Having to store a drain rack/tray takes up cupboard space for something that could be stored in a spare sink.

RE: Mammouth Caves?

On the road between I-65 and the park, there is every type of money grabbing entertainment you can think of e.g. bumper cars, mini golf, water slides, etc. etc. I think your children would enjoy one of the shorter cave tours at Mammoth.

RE: Frank Spence

So sorry to hear this sad news. We have met Frank and Lucy a few times; in fact they have been to our home for coffee and visit. He also writes regularly for a Canadian camping magazine.
He was a very knowledgeable and likeable person. Our sympathy goes out to Lucy and family.

RE: Round Kitchen Sinks

We would trade our double sink for a round one anytime.
Stupid double sink takes up to much counter space.
When doing dishes we never use both sinks as it would use too much water.
We boondock a lot.
To save water start with just a small amount in the sink add silverware and glass wear.
Then when several things need rinsing Do it under the faucet. Then dry or rack.
We always finish without even filling the sink once.
Do you not have a cover that fits over one of your sinks?
That's what I currently have and it provides extra work space. At dish time, just stand it up against the wall and you have one sink for washing and the other for a drain rack which always stays put.

RE: From Germany, LA, NY, to FL in THIS MH !!

We have come across these buses many times in our travels. They are commonly referred to as "The German Coffin" buses because the occupants sleep in elongated compartments, almost like drawers. I guess it is a cheap way to travel but not for everyone.
It is amazing to see them prepare a meal. A kitchen area pulls out and I think they take turns with the meal prep and clean up. At coffee breaks we have seen them out doing their exercises. It certainly is a regimented way to travel.

RE: Four Mile Creek State Park Camping

We haven't been to 4 Mile Creek for a couple of years, but I seem to remember being annoyed at having to pay an extra "administrative fee" or some other charge when we registered. It was only a couple of $'s, but it was to cover office expenses or similar. Isn't this why you pay a camping fee. It is a great park - we have been camping there since the 70's.
Try to get a site near the lake - you can view the Toronto skyline from there.
