RE: State parks??

Some states allow booze and some don't - but look closely and you'll see it everywhere. Just be discreet. If you don't bother them, they won't bother you.

RE: Brake control adjustment

After making sure the connector is properly attached (check the signal lights), I would suspect the brake shoes need adjusting. You should be able to get lock up.
Does the unit slow down at all when you apply the slide bar?

RE: 1st camping trip - was so nice!!

We had the same great weather for our trip to Four Mile Creek State Park on the shore of Lake Ontario. Your picture of the wine glass reminded me that we got a pair of those from my SIL for Christmas - and forgot to use them - next trip!

RE: Furnace issues...HELP!

where is the viewing window?
There is a little round 'eyehole' at the front of the unit - I can see mine by looking through the grill but it is more obvious if you take the grill off.

RE: Shoud we rewinterize? Temp dipping in freezing.

as above - leave the WH on, open the faucets and cupboards, and if you have an electric heater (and power) you could put it on low, overnight.

RE: First Landing State Park- VA

In the prime season, I am sure the sites would be assigned by the Park so that you would more like get one of the less desirable locations.
Glad to read that your first experience was so positive - I'm sure that most of your trips will be likewise - they generally are.
Unless Virgina State Parks have a different system, you should be able to pick almost site you like, if you book early enough. Some parks allow you to reserve but not choose until you arrive, but I can't remember ever being assigned a site.

RE: Furnace issues...HELP!

Could be a number of things.
Is your propane tank open?
Is there propane in the tank?
Can you see a flame through the little viewing window?
Are you setting the thermostat high enough?
And as suggested above - check the fuse connections - actually pull the fuse and put it back in - or put a new fuse in there. This actually solved my problem when the igniter would 'tick' but not light.

RE: Time for the trailer to come home

It's been 6 months that our trailer was put in storage, today is a nice day so it is time for it to come back to papa.
Hopefully we will have a good, nice, warm, long summer here in Alberta.
Summer started for us this weekend - the earliest we've ever camped. We just went across the border to Lewiston, NY, and visited Fort Niagara. The evenings got down close to freezing but the days were sunny and an electric blanket took care of the rest. :)

RE: Towing with a minivan

Here's the thing - you've already got the van, and now you've found the trailer you like. Technically, you can pair the two. In time you will realize that a more capable TV will make for a nicer towing experience but until then, just be careful.
I used to tow my 4000 lb trailer with a van rated for 5,000 - it was "okay". what spurred us to change was the trip up a steep hill in the rain. The van was front-wheel drive, and even with a WDH the front end was too light and the wheels spun - not fun. we made it up the hill but that was the last trip for that van.
If it had been RWD we might have kept it until the tranny went.

RE: Here's an unusual story - Bear Country

bear deliberately saving him..... hummmm I doubt it
bear attacking a known enemy "the lion/puma" and the man getting lucky, much more likely
Methinks that a bear with a cub is already in "protect" mode - wouldn't take much to prompt a response.

RE: Kind of Emergency Situation

A natural disaster most certainly wasn't the way I had envisioned breaking in my brand new TT, but it's nice to have.
That was a thought that occurred to us just after we bought ours - added value ;)
As long as you've got running water, your propane should keep you going for the other stuff - just charge your battery with the genset as needed. If looting is a possibility, then it's probably best to stay on site.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear of your circumstance. Another option would be to check into the nearest campground with power...

RE: "newbie" mistakes

Jumped in the truck and it was dragging like the brake was stuck....chocked the other side of the trailer...First thing I did on my first trip with the new trailer was make a checklist as I set it up and again when I packed up.
One of the very first things I did was make a checklist - works great, as long as you check the list. The last time I didn't I fired a chock into the neighbours yard as we left the driveway LOL!

RE: Myrtle Beach

I see they have problems with Copperhead snakes.
Where did you see that?
We have been to Huntington Beach SP, a few times and never saw any kind of snake - even on the trails.

RE: How strong a wind to tip over an RV?

a good thing to do is to try to fill all of your tanks to get the center of weight lower
The best way is to transfer all the beer from the fridge to the black tank - it might take a while but when you're done, the wind won't bother you anymore :p
