RE: Camping in Portland, OR

Given its location, you're directly under the approach for PDX, and from the reviews I've read, its fairly loud from both commercial air flights and military jets. Hayden Island RV Park isn't much better, but is a little closer to the max rail lines that can carry you into downtown with yer bikes. Either one, yer out closer to the higher crime ends of town and the industrial districts. There really isn't much closer, the few that are "closer" are parks I wouldn't recommend staying at, unless drunks and druggies are something you consider as "good neighbors". Now, me, I live on the west side of Portland, on Sauvie Island, which is a fairly short drive directly into the Pearl District (The nice end of downtown), but a far longer bicycle ride. You'll also get caught up into the nightmare traffic along that section of I-5, trying to go downtown, Hwy 30 coming from the west is rarely crowded during rush hour, with the exception of right around the St. John's Bridge, and then that's fairly easy to pass if you stay to the lane away from the turn off. The RV Park I stay at is called Island Cove, northeast corner the island, nice area to ride around, lots of little farms with various markets at them. Thanks Joe. How far is Island Cove and are there transit options?

Camping in Portland, OR

We are thinking about stopping by Porland soon and are wondering if there are any recommendations of nice campgrounds very close to down town (short bike ride)? We Googled and found the Columbia River RV Park, eight miles from down town (would like closer if possible). Thanks!

RE: Carrying a Camper on the Newer "Gas" Trucks

I went through the same decision process you did, over 3 years ago and came to the same conclusion. From my math, the gas engine won, not to mention I got a lifetime warranty on the powertrain. Was not offered on the diesel. Have not regretted the decision once. I love my Hemi. I get around 12 MPG hauling my camper. Pretty much the same one you have.
