Missing from this story:
How did the OP discover that his rig had been towed?
Was it the same day?
Or, did the owner receive a letter a week later?
Or, did he discover it missing a few weeks or months later when he came down to the Keys to use it?
So, as to the original question of the "fairness" of the $2200 towing fee:
Perhaps this total amount also included some storage fees at the tow lot.

I tried to check mine with the key pad this past fall and I kept getting the code for the transmission was not warm enough. How did you go about getting up to temature? Mine just does not seem to want to get that warm.
I don't mean to hijack your thread but it seems you guys know what you are talking about. Gary

Transmission in DRIVE
Apply FULL THROTTLE for ~15-20 seconds.
After ~30 seconds, note transmission temperature.
Repeat as needed to reach operating temp (it won't take very long.)

I grew up in So. Fla. As kids, our moms sent us out in the morning with instructions to "stay out of trouble" and "don't be late for dinner."
We drank nasty, sulphur-tasting well water out of weathered, sun-rotted rubber garden hoses that laid in the sun all day long for years.
We played in stagnant ponds that were so green with algae that it looked like a green tennis court that you could walk across on top of the water.
From the seawall, we fed slices of bread to the alligator which lived in the canal right behind the house and came over to eat when we clapped our hands every morning. Then, we swam there in the afternoon after school.
We ran around barefoot in the woods and weeds all day where the rattlesnakes flourished, played in the ditches where the cottonmouths lived.
We weren't tough guys, we were just ordinary kids, playing like kids did... back then. Think about it, you probably did the same..
The worst that ever happened to any of us was sunburns and sandspurs.
I wouldn't do most of that stuff now. Except, probably, drink from the hose.

My wife keeps a log book of our travels. Leftmost column is date/time, then odometer reading, closest city/state, then a brief comment. If it is a fuel stop, comment includes gallons, cost. If it is a campground, a tourist spot, interesting people we meet along the way, or any notable event, she makes a descriptive comment, perhaps including a small sketch or a hand-drawn map.
This serves as a single data source for tracking mileage, repairs, campground reviews, etc.
Also, it is fun to just go back and read the log of an earlier trip, providing laughs and revitalizing memories of small, nearly forgotten, moments.
I like those hand-written, coffee-stained, dog-eared and smudged pages very much.

If it won't even activate when you have 12 v across the coil (small lugs on the bottom) then the coil is either bad or the internal contacts are not free to move easily.
If you can hear it activate ("thunk"), then the reason it isn't working is probably because the contacts inside are pitted and burned.
A new one is less than $20:

Copied from HWH manual ML47149: "Maintenance of all HWH Kick-Down & Straight-Acting jacks"
Cleaning the jack and jack rod.
Basic cleaning of the complete jack assembly is accomplished with the use of soap and water. Spaying the jacks with a spray wand at a car wash would be acceptable.
The only time a jack rod would need cleaning is if the jack has been extended for a period of time. The jack should not be extended just to clean the rod.
If the jack is extended, use soap and water or WD-40 on the jack rod then wipe the rod dry with a clean cloth.
IMPORTANT: Do not use a dirty rag to wipe the jack rod or do not wipe the jack rod if it is coated with dirt. This could scratch and damage the rod. Make sure to use water or WD-40 to loosen any dirt before wiping the jack rod.
If the jack rod has been greased or silicone sprays have been used on the jack rod, use WD-40 to loosen the grease or silicone and wipe the rod clean.
Maintenance for jacks that will not store or retract slowly.
If jack will not retract and it is determined that the jack is the problem, extend the jack slightly more. Then spray a liberal amount of WD-40 on the jack rod. Store the jack as you normally would. If the jack will still not retract, contact HWH for assistance. The cylinder will have to be replaced or repaired.
If a jack is slow to retract, before storing the jacks, spray a liberal amount of WD-40 on the jack rod(s) and store the jacks as you normally would.
Excess WD-40 should be removed from the jack or jack foot after storing the jacks. Cleaning the jack rod as explained above should be done.
Using WD-40 to assist in the retracting of jacks will probably not be a permanent fix. Anytime a jack needs assistance when retracting, some type of repair of the jack such as new springs or replacement of the jack will be needed to make a permanent repair.

Some engines have two oil drain plugs on the pan to split the drainage into more manageable amounts -- one is on the bottom, as usual, and there's another partway up on the side.

If the seller is a legitimate business, then their reputation is of great importance to them, and they will do backflips to protect it.
However, a scammer can run up their reputation with many "good" sales of small items in preparation for "The Sting." Therefore, take the time to look back through the actual listings of previous sales to see if they are "real" items similar to what you are seeking. Note the type, quantity, and time-span of these previous sales.
Also, try to get a feel for the buyers, to make sure that they are legitimate, not just a bunch of shill accounts for setting the stage. Be wary of similarities where there should be randomness -- do the comments have a pattern of phrasing or mis-spellings?
Do you think these things are too far-fetched? Remember that setting up these sales is the scammer's "day job" -- and he may have many of them going on simultaneously, to generate an income stream.
Of course, if the seller is just a legitimate private owner, then this RV sale may be his first big-ticket Ebay venture, so don't be too quick to write it off.

Back in the "olden days," we were taught that as soon as we started down the on-ramp, we should begin to choose the opening in the traffic that we were going to merge into. We were to adjust our speed accordingly, so that we arrived at the merge just as our opening arrived, to blend into traffic seamlessly. That has worked well for me over the past 50 years.
Many/most/nearly all mergers nowadays do not even look in their outside mirror until they are at the bottom of the on-ramp, and their assumption is that all the surrounding traffic will move out of the way to accomodate them. Most of time, they are right, and are outraged if this "accomodation" doesn't happen as it it "supposed to."
Drive with lights on at all times, and be generous with the air horn, especially when mergers have a cell phone grafted to the side of their head.
