Norcold 1200, and new cooling unit

Changed out the cooling unit on my Norcold 1200. The Amish unit from Cooling Unit Warehouse works perfectly. Very detailed video at this link.

RE: Sirius Radio?

I love the Xm system. My wife has sat. radio in her new car, we pay for two subscriptions, if you pay for 2 or 3 years in advance, it ends up being about $12.00 a month. I got my system for $20.00 during a promo from XM. I then purchased two docking stations, one for my jeep (toad) and one for my work truck. I can now move the unit between all three vehicles, and pay one monthly fee. Make sure you have a radio with an aux input, the fm modulator is crap.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Today I installed a new 20' awning, to replace the one we left on the side of the highway some where in Nebraska. Awning unrolled as we were doing 65. Pretty scary. We salvaged what we could, but could not fit the main roller into the MH. A little advice, I did this job myself, I would recommend having at least one helper. Installed new Sun Guard sun shades.
As a side note, I purchased a brand new Carefree of Colorado awning from a local RV shop, total price $1836.00, got the awning installed, and believe it or not, they did not include a pull strap, really!!!
1800 dollars and they can't include an 8 dollar strap.

RE: Total rookie needs help - Only 1/2 our electric working

The GFCI in the bathroom does matter. We have a 1999 Monaco Diplomat, and several times after plugging in 50 amp, I tripped the breaker in the bathroom above the sink, we lost power to half the coach, including the t-stat. Hope that helps.

RE: plaement of sat radio portable antenna

Mine didn't work well on the dash, I ran the wire up the side pillar, through the rubber gasket and then used clear silicone to fix it to the roof, centered, and just above the windshield. Been there for 2 years, no problems.

RE: Amish cooling unit in a Norcold 1200

Has anyone else replaced the cooling unit with one of the Amish units?
What are your thoughts?

RE: Any one going to Osh Kosh?

The wife is not interested in attending, so a friend and I will be there the 28th to the 31st. There are a very limited number of electric sites, hoping to get one. The night time air and fire works show is amazing. See you all there.

RE: Norcold Refrigerator Rescue

I recently replaced my Norcold 1200 cooling unit with the Amish cooling unit also. The job was fairly easy, took about 8 hours total start to finish. I didn't lay the fridge down to install the cooling unit,not sure that this would make it any easier to attach the new c/u. I did the whole job myself. I also made a video, in HD, hoping to help make the job easier for any of you prepared to tackle this on your own.

RE: Amish cooling unit in a Norcold 1200

As a side note. I didn't purchase the Amish cooling unit expecting better cooling, I purchased a new cooling unit because two different RV repair shops could not get the Norcold unit to run properly, and I wasn't prepared to spend thousands of dollars for a Norcold replacement. After researching all the options, the Amish unit seemed to be the best choice for a replacement. RV Cooling Unit Warehouse has great customer service,( I actually called David Force on his cell phone for install help), and the unit comes with a five year warranty. This unit works, and it works well.

RE: Amish cooling unit in a Norcold 1200

@Gale, After the first visit to the RV repair shop for the fridge, we were told the control board was bad, $800.00 estimate. I purchased the control board from Dinosaur electronics for $140.00 and installed it myself. The fridge still did not work. Second visit to the same RV repair shop, was then told the cooling unit was bad, $2400.00 estimate.
Purchased the new cooling unit from RV cooling unit warehouse, fridge works perfectly. I also replaced to two cooling fans, and added three new fans to the top of the fridge space near the roof vent, these are on a switch for the real hot days. The new cooling unit also came with a can of expandable foam that was used to fill in gaps around the foam, then all the seams were taped.

RE: Amish cooling unit in a Norcold 1200

@Edouard, The ice maker was left in the freezer, I left the wires disconnected and zip tied them neatly to the side, the water line and the solenoid valve were removed, because we don't use the water in the holding tank for drinking or cooking.

RE: Amish cooling unit in a Norcold 1200

@Chastho
I've only had the MH for about a year and a half, and the fridge never worked quite right. The new cooling unit cools the fridge much quicker, and on mid setting (5) with the outside temps in the mid 70's. it holds the temps at 35 to 38 in the fridge and 10 in the freezer. I did all the work myself. Over the course of 2 days, I worked a total of about 8 or 9 hours, but I also modified the fans, and removed all the ice making stuff. I just couldn't justify several hundred more dollars from RV repair shops that never got the Norcold to work right.

RE: Amish cooling unit in a Norcold 1200

@Socalz,
You should check into these cooling units, I'm fairly new to the RV world, but I am quickly learning to do as much as I can on my own. This was a pretty easy fix, and I have read only good things about these cooling units, and only horrible things about Norcold as far as products and customer service. As for the Amish reference, this is how they are marketed, not sure what the Amish have to do with them. And the reason the video looks the way it does, is because I am a photo and video freak, and really enjoyed making this vid.
Thanks for the comments.
