RE: help me determine the age of my tires

We've had this camper for a couple of years now. The tires look great and show no cracks anywhere. I thought thou it might good to know how old they are. So i've been reading all these tire threads. Most have said to find the age of the tires look on the side wall for a four digit date code in a circled area near the rim. I've found what should be the code but it's only three lettters in instead of four. It shows "011" what does that mean? To determine the age of your tires, look for the DOT code on their sidewall. A DOT code may be on one or both sidewalls of the tire. The date will be the last 3 or 4 digits of one of these codes. Note- The DOT code with the date at the end, is ONLY ON ONE SIDEWALL. (You may need to crawl under the vehicle to find it) From 2000 on: DOT XXXX XXXX XXXX Last four digits: date code (week / year of manufacture) Example: DOT B32K NM2K 0607 (6th week of 2007) Before 2000: DOT XXXX XXXX XXX (older three-digit date code format) Last three digits: date code (two for the week / one for the year) Example: DOT P1RW B4LR 109 (10th week of 1999, or 1989)

RE: pulling with a 5th wheel

" silverado duramax/allison " 2500 or 3500 ? What difference would it make? Both have the same drive train.

RE: Cold Air Intake box

Just about every vehicle built in the last 20 years already has a CAI. Unless your having the classic overheating issue, it's a waste of money. Wrong !! See the other correct posts here regarding GM vehicles.

RE: Cold Air Intake box

I installed a Banks Cold Air Intake and a 4" G.M. Performance exhaust on my 2005 Duramax (pulling a 12000# 5er). The stock intake draws combustion air from engine compartment, increasing turbo temp and decreasing power. Although I cannot tell any power increase, the engine and tranny temps do return back to normal much quicker than before.

RE: Lights Dim every so often

We have a new battery now, and everything is good for now. When our battery was dead though, we had no electric that would work even when I plugged it in to the house. We have a 2007 Laredo 5th wheel. Does that mean we could still have converter issues? 2 months from today we leave on vacation. Yea! Shawna Depending on the size of the converter, a bad battery can suck up all the converter can put out. As stated on this post, to check a converter, disconnect the battery, if all OK, replace the battery. Unlike a true battery charger, a converter will supply the house load with no battery attached. Also remember, after 60 months, the battery is on borrowed time.

RE: Custom built swivel wheel trailer

Don't pay attention to the einstiens that call this double towing.I built my own single swivelwheel for a scooter and pulled it for 3 years all over florida on the back of my 5er with no problems. We see a lot of people driving who would get a ticket if there was a Officer around, we all get get away with stuff, knowing that we might get caught. The worse thing that can happen is a ticket. If caught double towing illegally, you may be required to park your rig. I would make sure I knew the law for the state I'm traveling in before taking that king of chance.

RE: Upgrade wheels from 16 to 17.5

kakampers, I might be over reacting but one of my cast aluminum wheels has a crack in it, about 2.5" long. I can't imagine how that would happen. The tire guys was in disbelief. Thats the only wheel issue I have had, the tire issues, well there are several with the original China tires. I was told that getting a 17.5" H, I or J rated tire would be eaiser to find than a 16" G rated. Maybe the rim was mishandled when the tire was mounted ?

RE: 50amp rig on 30 amps

Running both air conditioners is possible if the voltage is high enough. The voltage often will be high in the morning at the park, but depending on how many rigs are on your circuit, the voltage drops as load (everyone running A/C) increases. Sometimes it will work, just be sure to have everything on gas (including the water heater) and give it a try. If you trip the main breaker, you will have your answer.
