RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Our trash can is not in the cabinet, only the tennis ball is. I had the trash can in a cabinet for a while in our previous RV. But then I gave it up for the storage. The logical place for our trash can is in front of the fridge but it's really hard to find a short/wide waste basket with a lid that is only 13-1/2 inches tall (so the fridge door clears it) but still is wide enough to be useful. (We use grocery bags inside.) Bed Bath and beyond has one online right now but not all the stores carry it. I use two eye hooks and a bunge cord to secure it to the wall under the fridge door. I'd love to put it inside the kitchen cabinet but I just can't give up the storage space under the sink for a wastebasket.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

I found a way to keep our kitchen trash can upright while traveling. I use an 8-gal can with a 13-gal trash bag with a drawstring (cinch sack). After inserting the bag into the can, I fold the top of the bag over the outside of the can. I positioned the can where I wanted it to be, against a cabinet. I grabbed the bag hanging on the back side of the can, pulled it tight, and slipped it between a cabinet door and the cabinet opening, on the hinged side. Pulling the bag through to the inside of the cabinet, it formed a pocket. I put a tennis ball in the pocket (inside the cabinet) and shut the door. The tennis ball keeps the bag from sliding through, and the bag holds the trash can in position. I don't know how well this will work if the trash can is full and heavy, but we empty the trash often.

RE: New low usage shower - opinions wanted

I like this idea. We just got the Oxygenics and used it for the first time over the holidays. WOW does that stream get cold! Luckily we had a sewer hookup. We both admitted to letting the shower run the full time. That would be unacceptable boondocking.

RE: Sleeping In Our MH

Please understand that I am not complaining only seeking advice from those of you who spend more time in your MH's than we do. DW and I just returned from our second trip out in our new to us MH and although we both enjoyed the trips, neither of us slept well. On our first trip, we were rocked all night by heavy winds and pelting rain. This last trip we were kept awake by the oil filled heater making popping noises all the first night followed by a heavy rain storm the second night. Just curious what you all do to sleep when you are out in your MH's. Thanks in advance for your ideas. We have an oil heater in our home, that noise doesn't bother me after a few minutes. But there is nothing like a good rain storm to lull us to sleep, in the rv or in the house. As long as the thunder isn't too loud and the electricity stays on, we love it.

RE: air mattress in couch

We have a blow-up mattress on the sofa bed. What is this zipper bag some of you refer to? We bought it used. I have seen no bag.

RE: air mattress in couch

Ours came with a repair kit, like with blow up pool float. On another note, has anyone had to replace one of these mattresses? Ours recently decided to grow a hole in it. wondering if it can be repaired or where to find a replacement.:h Thanks

RE: Skylight Blackout Shades?

I cut a piece of Reflectix. DH replaced the screws at the 4 corners of the frame around the skylight with eye hooks. I crisscrossed bungee cords, hooked onto the eye hooks. That holds the Reflectix up. Later I added weather stripping (adhesive on 1 side) around the Reflectix (inside the frame of the skylight) to get rid of that last sliver of light coming through.

RE: installing flat screen in inside wall

Ours is mounted in the wall. The kitchen slide partially covers it when it comes in.

RE: Wife needs help with convection oven!

Did it not come with a book? We got the conv/micro in August. I didn't take time to read the book before attempting to use it. Micro part was the same. I baked a cake and just used the buttons and prompting to enter the right info. After looking at the book, I think it should not have taken my cake the full time to bake, but it took the regular amount of time. I still haven't figured out how to make toast with the conv.

RE: Camping with-out your spouse?

I have travelled several times in our motorhome without DH. I usually go to spend a few days with our daughter, camping in her driveway. I have done a week-long camping trip with the same daughter, grandson, and one of his friends, without DH. I've gone camping with our other daughter without DH, and she invited friends to tent at our site. DH had gone hunting, so we needed to have some fun too. I have also had a Girls' Camping Weekend with friends without DH. My favorite is when DH is at work, I drive the RV to a local state park and get set up for him to meet me there.

RE: should i be worried?

When ours suddenly lost power and coasted to a stop it needed a new fuel filter. You may have gotten some bad diesel.
