RE: Inverters

Add up the watts of all the items you want to run at the same time and call Randy at bestconverter.com for solid advice about what's best for your situation. I have a large wholehouse modified sinewave inverter which does a good job plus a smaller pure sinewave inverter located in our entertainment center to power just the outlets within that area. Good luck and enjoy the conveniences an inverter provides while camping.

RE: Extended Warranty

Not knowing what type of camper you bought, but when we purchased our TT we denied their extended warranty. I might consider it purchasing a motorcoach, but I'm handy with tools and find most 5ers and TTs are easy to diagnose and repair. Going on 5 years and 40K miles, we never have had our rig back to the dealer as any minor issues we're simple to fix. Nothing wrong with getting one as it can provide peace of mind, but read the contract carefully as many have easy out clauses that enables them to deny many claims due to lack of upkeep. Good luck with your final choice and enjoy your new RV.

RE: GRAND CANYON VISIT IN AUGUST?

Should be able to find availablity at Williams, AZ especially if you travel during the week, but trying get in the RV park at the canyon itself would be lucky indeed if at all possible without reservations. Obviously, August is the hottest month of the year most anywhere in the US, but it can cool of since it's monsoon season during that time of the year and possible afternoon showers can help tame the heat. Have fun at the Grand Canyon!!!

RE: Hercules Tires

Go ahead and get a set of Hercules ST tires and report back your experiences as I doubt you will find many stating that they are the equal to Maxxis. As for nationwide availablity and distribution, there are readily available to any tire shop, but of course they will always push what gives them the highest profit margin. Our local Discount Tire tried the same thing, so we ordered them from DiscountTireDirect.com and had them delivered for free. Our local Discount Tire mounted, balanced, and warranted them all for less than the inferior brand they pushed. Who knows, maybe you could start a movement for Hercules ST tires, because it sure would be nice to know there are other reliable choices for ST tires than just Maxxis.

RE: Swamp cooler

They do provide efficient cooling in the very low humidity conditions found in the Southwest US and would be a good choice since your Honda genny will easily power any portable swamp cooler. Post back your comments if you go this route as we predominately camp in the four corner states and might make use of this type of cooling device in the future.

RE: Just some good to know Fridge info

The biggest problem with these absoption fridges is they are often improperly installed by the RV manufacturer causing poor cooling performance due to inadequate ventilation. Luckily, our Dometic maintains temps in the 30s no matter if it is 10 degrees or 110 degrees outside. Adequately ventilated, running fridge on propane will provide the best cooling performance in most cases.

RE: 36 LED dome light $6.99 ea.

I agree, we replaced all of our interior incandescent bulbs with 36 LED panels last year and paid about $4.50 each on Ebay with free shipping. Great quality, low operating temps, fractional current draw, and lighting very similar to the incandescents they replaced.

RE: Removing old overhead tv/replacing with flat screen

When we replaced our analog tv in our overhead cabinet, we just removed the old set, screwed in a solid backing board within the cabinet, and installed a retracting, swivel tv mount for our 32" flatscreen.

RE: Camping Memorial day weekend

We'll be out for 10 days and have a general idea what areas we will be camping in, but don't reserve anything ahead of time since State and COE parks have plenty of first come first serve sites available in addition to reservable sites. Happy Camping!!!

RE: should i get an 18" or 24" electric tongue jack?

A 24" would give you the added length for most any scenario, but we use a 8" tongue jack stand from CW with our 18" Barker 3500, and never encountered a situation where we needed more. Either way, you will be happy with your Barker.

RE: PDI Tomorrow - Black Water Tank Questions!

Should receive a free starter kit from dealer, then you could go to Camping World, Walmart, or online for better selection and pricing. Don't need to stress the PDI too much if your dealer is competent and customer service oriented. Our dealer had everything fully operational and ready for our PDI, we came and spent about an hour going over our TT while our WD/SC hitch was being installed. They showed us how to implement our hitch set-up, we towed our new rig home, and have had no issues requiring dealer intervention over four camping seasons. Enjoy your new Bighorn 5er!!!

RE: If you dont travel with the FW tank full???

It depends on the type of trip, but we never travel totally empty, even if we are just going 30 minutes down the road, just in case we need to stop for a bathroom break. I do prefer to bring our own FW since I know the quality of the clorinated city water we fill our tanks with, but if we have been to a specific campground that we know has decent water, we will carry enough for the ride and fill/use what's available at our destination.

Don't have any experience with military camping in FL and GA as we primarily camp in the western US, but we use this website when we are looking for military campgrounds.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

We love our Maxxis tires and thought about going with the E-rated tire, but our stock rims could not handle the extra psi, and in reality, the D-rated tires provided plenty of capacity for our current 10K lb rig.

RE: What are the advantages to a 5th wheel?

Often discussed subject here on the forum with pros and cons to either choice. As for MPG, any increase or decrease will be nominal. Get whatever class of RV that suits your personal situation best, be it a pop-up camper, a million dollar class A, or anything in between. As they say, different strokes for different folks. Happy Camping!!!

Well water I would dump but clorinated city water is OK for a couple of months.
