RE: Why do I feel like appoligizing....??

I never feel the need or urge to apologize for the life style we live or the material things we have. I started with nothing except a good work ethic, work long hours, saved my money, purchased things when I had saved enough money to pay cash, did without, etc, things that everyone else could do as well. It all comes down to choices.

Never stayed at the CG, but did rent a house on Topsail Island. Really a nice place if you like the beach.

RE: Best route Southern Maine to P.E.I

We've been 1, 9, 6 and 95. We like to go up one way and back another. Last summer on our motorcycles, we went across 6 and back 1. 95 is long and a little boring. I like 6 for interest. There isn't a lot on 9. 1 from Eastport to Bangor isn't too crowded and is not boring.

RE: Maine or Michigan

We've spent a lot of time on both states. You can't go wrong with either. Michigan has been pretty well covered so I'll add to the Maine comments. Starting in southern Maine, your kids might enjoy the York Beach animal farm. Ogunquit has lots of little shops and restaurants and a very nice harbor. Wells has a great CG for kids - the Wells CG. It has a miniature golf course on site. Portland and Freeport are very interesting with lots to do. LL Bean is in Freeport, along with many other outlets.
Boothebay is very scenic. The most scenic and beautiful sea side community is Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. Stay at either the Bar Harbor CG. The lobster is to die for. A drive up to Eastport is very scenic. If you bring your passports go into New Brunswick. It's coast is also beautiful.
Inland in Maine you have Baxter SP and Lake Sebago. Two ares well worth a visit. If you like wilderness Moosehead Lake is great.

RE: Interlaken Camp Ground, Rhinebeck New York

We stayed there in '04 so not recent. The roads getting in and out are hilly and twisty, but we had no problem with a 40' MH. There are a lot of trees so sat. may be tough. It's a pretty CG. We really enjoyed both our stay in the CG and the area in general. We had a memorable meal at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America). Roosevelts house are very interesting. The aerodrome ios also neat.

RE: Digital vs analog TV

We own a lot in a Florida campground and Comcast is the provider. As of this past March, they require you to use one of their boxes (3 are free) in front of each TV. We have explained that motorhomes have little room in them and they don't care. We have explained that we rent our lot to people that don't have one of their boxes and they don't care. It is not the choice of the CG or the service they subscribe to. It is being forced on CG's.

RE: I am new to rving....Help

I have a similar but enclosed trailer that I tow sometimes and it can be a pain. If your trailer is only 18' it implies the car is a small one. If it can pull the trailer, it will help where those campgrounds have storage spots. It may also be difficult to find a spot long enough at the CG to get the car off to pull the trailer. You may want to do that at a nearby large parking lot.
I added a motorcycle lift to the back of the MH and that was much better. But the best thing I did was switch to towing a full size pickup with a lift in the back of it. Then I had a 4x4 and my motorcycle.

RE: Powertech Generator problem

Actually it is all electric. I don't fear propane - I use it to heat my house and to cook with at home. On the Powertech front - I watched the voltage carefully for about 30 minutes and it gradually increases to a point I decided to shut it off. It seems like it could be a thermal issue with the voltage controller.

RE: Powertech Generator problem

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the manual. In one area there's a reference to two pots. One is output voltage the other is stability. But all other areas in the manual say if the output is too high you have to change the voltage control module. I'm unsure if I start diddling the voltage pot, if that might throw off the stability setting. I don't know if they are interactive. I have a call into Powertech.

Powertech Generator problem

I have a 17.5KW Powertech generator in our MH. I also have Trace inverters (2 ea at 4KEW) that have a built in transfer switch. They select the appropriate input to use - either house AC or generator or if no generator they'll run everything off a large battery bank.
Lately when I dry camp and want to run the genset I notice that everything looks good when I first start it up. The inverter has selected the generator and the AC voltage from the generator is close to the output voltage of the inverter when it's operating (around 123 VAC). If I come back a few minutes later I notice the Trace is now inverting i.e. it's not using the genset output. The genset is still running. I also notice that the output voltage of the generator has climbed to 136 VAC. I'm assuming the Trace inverter is programmed to stop using the genset if it's output voltage is too high.
My question is, how can I reduce the output voltage of the generator? The load on the generator last time it did this was 2 airconditioners, 1 Aquahot and assorted electrical stuff or about 15 amps per side.

I like the Rafter J Bar in Hill City which is very close to Rushmore.

RE: 2002 Honda CRV toad

I've towed an '06 and an '09 Honda CR-V for thousands of miles. The one thing we always do is follow their recommended shifting sequence. We've never had a problem. I can't say we're as anal about only towing for 8 hours though.

RE: I15 Canada to California in January?

Diesel is very easy to get all along I5...
Jan. you risk snow at the passes and even road closures - Grants Pass and through the Siskisyous in S. Oregon and into N. Calif....You can even has some ice and snow through the low lands at times.
Oregon requires that you carry chains at all times.
Me thinks you are talking about another interstate. I15 goes through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, does not come close to Washington, Oregon or California.
Travel on I15 in winter changes from day to day. You have to remember that most of I15 after Butte MT is anywhere from 4000 feet to 6500 feet in elevation with some passes even higher.
He mistook I15 for I5, which he mentioned in his post. I think I15 ends in California though.
