I think I am having withdrawal................... Anyone else??
Withdraws? Naw! Got plenty of sunshine here, just telling the wife if the weather stayed like this all winter I wouldn't go to Florida!

RE: engin battery

Hello
I have a 2011 winnabago adventurer. The engin battery keeps going dead after afew days.Even though i am hooked to shore power. It is A FORD
.THANKYOU FOR ANY HELP
KENNY
It should not go dead in a few days, when I am parked I turn the master switch off for the chassis battery. Mine does not get charged while hooked to shore power. So I got a Xantrex digital echo charger which takes amps (trickle) from coach batteries and keeps the chassis battery charged, if the coach batteries fall below 13 amps it cuts off.
I think your might have a bad battery. Mine are getting old and need replaced also.

RE: Are You Glad to be Home Again

Yes and no,
Yes because I was finally able to locate the foul smell that has been around off and on for the past month, thought it was the grey water tank, turns out it was a chassis battery.
And NO because I have a lot of weeding and lawn work to catch up on. Also, for some reason I keep running over a sprinkler on the park strip with the motorhome every year when we return. Seems like an annual event. Maybe I need to move to St. George Utah and become a Sunbird instead of a Snowbird and enjoy no grass and sprinklers.
It gets cold there in the Winter!

RE: So we're sitting here at Assateague National Seashore

Life is not sucking right now. :-)
Pardon me, but I don't understand the reason for your "Life is not sucking right now"?
Read the Title Retiredblade. They are in the Assateague National Seashore Park. It means life is good for them right now.
Kind of miss read it, but life is what it is, ups and downs, it is a lot better than the alternative! Right?

RE: Are You Glad to be Home Again

Glad to be home, we had a very good Spring in Florida, flowers, green leaves popping out, nice warm weather. Now we are having our second Spring at home. I like my stick house, I like scratching around in my garage and I am looking forward to going back to Florida for the Winter, I just enjoy life where ever I am! RE: Dead chassis battery on 01 Southwind

When I had my Bounder Gasser, I had a low chassis battery, pressed the jumper button and engine started fine.
Now I have a pusher, and the latest no start was when I was going to leave Florida to come home. Went to start and the dash lights would all go dim and no start. Got my volt/ohm meter and measured the chassis battery volts, 8 volts. Battery booster did nothing and I found out why when I got home, solenoid shot and the battery booster switch isn't even connected! Someone messed with it before I got it, fixing it now.
Never the less, I got my buddy who has a Ford diesel pickup and he jumped my chassis batteries and the old Cummins started up. Even if I fix the booster, I am going to carry jumper cables to manually jump the chassis batteries from my house batteries. I need to replace my chassis batteries anyway.

RE: nice Florida parks with reasonable annual rates?

Two properties I have stayed at I would recommend. First is Paradise Oaks RV & Golf in Bushnell, Florida the other is Williston Corssings RV Resort in Williston, Florida.. Each has their own appeal. Paradise Oaks is a new small park with a small attached Golf area... I won't call it a Golf Course because it's only irons... Nice pool, clubhouse, hot tub, etc. www.theparadiseoaks.com .. Williston Crossings RV Resort is also new, much larger and absolutely top notch EVERYTHING.. Wow, is all I can say!! www.willistoncrossingrv.com The only drawback is that neither of the properties are near the ocean but also neither are in the middle of the traffic and congestion. Williston is about 20 minutes from Univeristy of Florida...
To cold up there!

RE: nice Florida parks with reasonable annual rates?

It all in what you want to spend. Seems like there are four zones of pricing during the Winter months. A few miles North of Orlando is lower pricing, but colder weather, Orlando to both coasts is higher but a little warmer. South of Orlando, say Winter Haven and coast to coast more money but warm. Then Bradenton, coast to coast all the way down, lots more money. I've seen places in that section of Florida that charge a high price but are not fancy, but it is the location. Key West is in the $2,000 and up a month.
Search the web, find a place, search the reviews, see if they have what your looking for then go for it. When your there, if satisfied, good, if not, drive around and find a place for next Winter.
A place North of Orlando that I have been, really has a lot to offer but when a cold snap hits it is about 10 degrees colder than below Orlando is the Wilderness Rv Resort in Silver Springs (Ocala area), check it out. Another place in Winter Haven, Fl is the Cypress Gardens Rv Resort, smaller the the above mentioned place but nice and next door to a Super Wal-Mart, very handy, but it is more money and they just raised the price for this coming Winter.

RE: battery draining

Wow! I'm glad my solenoid aren't behind my curcuit board! I just got a schematic and I have to trace the wire from my curcuit board to the aux start solenoid, always something to fix on these motor homes.

RE: battery draining

In 33 years as an RV tech, I have NEVER seen an Alternator cause a drain/draw on a battery (Coach or Chassis). That said, The Alternator CANNOT cause a drain on the coach batteries at all, as the coach batteries are NEVER connected to the Alternator unless the engine is ON. Now to all on these forums, when discussing batteries the CORRECT terminology is COACH for the RV/house batteries and CHASSIS for the Engine batteries. That makes for less confusion, instead of stating "Main" batteries as some will think Main can be Coach or Chassis. You need to charge each battery bank seperatly and then take a voltage reading WITHOUT shore power connected. IF you do NOT get at least 12.6 to 12.8 volts on EACH battery(not both or all batteries in the bank interconnected) then the battery is BAD. ONE bad battery can cause the others to discharge and if ONE is bad you ALWAYS replace all batteries in the set. GOOD batteries fully charged CANNOT drain down in 2 days even the Chassis battery. ANY draw that would drain a Chassis battery in 2 days will be easy to find just by looking for a appliance on the chassis side that is on. SMALL draws will not drain a GOOD fully charged battery in 2 days. Small draws on a COACH battery bank will not drain in 2 days. Even an INVERTER on Standby will not drain Coach batteries in 2 days but an Inverter left ON will. Doug
Good info, went out today, checked the chassis batteries (2) read 12.40, both. So, I put a 1 1/2 amp battery minder on them, will let them charge a couple of days. Take a reading again, should go to 13. Then take the charger off and take reading. Let them set a few days then read again, if below 12.60 I will replace them both.

RE: battery draining

I've got to start tracing down my problem that is similiar since I'm home now. The morning I was going to leave for home, my chassis batteries were low, 8 volts, needless to say, the Cummins didn't turn over. I engaged the aux start switch, suppose to hold it for 30 seconds, release and turn ignition switch, nothing, then directions says hold for two minutes, nothing. So I had to get my buddy just the chassis batteries with his diesel pickup. Maybe the 120 amp curcuit breaker is blown, maybe solenoid shot.
I am finding sometimes if I leave my chassis disconnect switch on, the chassis batteries drain down, if I disconnect, they don't. Also noticed going down the road the alternator needle is charging in the 14 volt range but moves back and forth to each side a 1/16". I am wondering if the alternator is the problem with draining the chassis batteries. Any suggestions?

RE: ford says focus can be towed 4 down, demco says no

If your owners manual, Ford Motor Company (not the dealer) say it is towable 4 down, then go for it. Also check with other tow bar manufacturers and Remco towing for their opinions. Could be that Demco has old info about your car or they are just trying to sell you more equipment than necessary.
Beverley and Ken
You can't trust any of these auto makers! Last year, Gm said, Cruze was towable 4 wheels down, people, including me, went out and bought one. About 3 months later, I get a letters saying it wasn't and warranty would be voided in towed. Got a 2011 Buick Regal to tow, so far, no problems within it, I follow the towing guidelines, but I am waiting for that possible letter saying it is not towable. I read where someone on the forum has already go the letter, what a mess.
Heard where the Fusion is was listed as towable, now having problems with them.

RE: Is the early spring cutting your season short?

83-85 Here in Florida, Man!is it hot! Anyway, been monitoring 10 forecast for home and it is in the middle 70's. Next week if the 10 day forecast is the same, I'm heading North, don't want to miss the flowers coming up and the toads croaking in the pond.
I kind of think this year is going to be a bad year, heat, storms, drought, the ocean water down here is in the 70's and they are worrying about a bad huricane season.
I'm sure glad I came to Florida, this year the weather has been absolutely perfect!

RE: New toad

I'm towing for the first time a 2011 Buick Regal. Great toad car. Never owned a Buick but this Regal is made in Germany, solid, zippy, has everything a Caddie or Lincoln has, built in GPS with a large screen. Really happy with it. It weights 500 more pounds than my 2000 Jeep Wrangler, but you wouldn't know it when towing.

RE: Miami Rv Campgrounds

Being raised in Miami and going to high school there, I really loved the place. Even then, there was one place one should not go and that was Liberty City. Now, I have been reading that Liberty City, Allepatha, overtown, Gould, Opa-Locka and quite a piece of territory a long US1 to the West one should not go. What a shame, I could voice why I think it has come to this but my reply would be taken off.
I think I will not go down there to Winter, must less to visit.

Does anyone snow bird around and below Miami, (not key west). Anyone have any problems? I have heard and read there are unsafe areas that one should not go to.

RE: Diesel pusher inverter question

I'm plugged info 50 amp shore power right now. Inverter is on, charging my batteries. when that two day cold snap came through, I also plugged in a electric heater, done it many times before, but this time coffee maker was plugged in on the same curcuit and I turned it on and it tripped one of the breakers on the inverter.

RE: Aux. brake system roll call.

The only problem I see with the ReadyBrake is the lack of break away protection.
If I felt the need for an aux brake system, that would be the only reason I would feel it.
For a additional $100. You can get the brake away system.
