Problems replying to certain threads?

Anyone having issues replying to certain threads? I had no problem replying to the gas millage thread, but tried several times since yesterday to reply to the holes in canvas thread, but get an error every time.

RE: Increasing mileage when towing

I often wondered if "drafting" an 18-Wheeler increases mileage....anyone ever try this with success...I know it's risky.
Drafting is very risky anytime and entering into beyond daredevil territory while towing.
Having said that, it does work and work well according to a Mythbusters episode that they did on it. I don't remember the numbers, but the closer you were drafting, the better the mileage. they got down to within a couple feet drafting and got huge mileage gains.
But again, close drafting while towing would be beyond crazy.

RE: Diesel ford ranger

That's pretty cool! Although I don't buy the tow rating. I did see in the hybrid forum that the Jeep has a higher tow rating in Australia then in the USA, so maybe they rate everything higher down under.

RE: Fridge

I agree with leaving it propped open. Any dampness inside will mildew if it's closed. Personally,
I just leave mine plugged in at home. We turn it on for the first trip of the season and leave it on at home most of the time until the last trip. That way, we just keep certain things like condiments, some drinks, frozen burgers and hotdogs right in there for the next trip.

RE: Just Purchased A Jayco X17Z

I actually wasn't planning on carpet either. We had a left over piece when we had new carpet installed in a room in the house and I thought I'd try it there. I really like it by the couch like that. Makes it comfy when sitting on there with no shoes :-)

RE: Just Purchased A Jayco X17Z

Under the sink, I removed the wood back panel to make the cabinet larger. Then I made two pull out drawers on one side for utensils.
I would be interested to see a picture of this mod. For us that cabinet could do with some more organization. I have a cold water filter on the right side of that cupboard. Other than that it is stock.
Here you go! Not my idea though. I saw someone else on here had done something similar.
I basically built two drawers and an open ended box to mount them in. The box is screwed down from under the shelf.
Two drawers are on drawer slides and deep enough for utensil trays with a couple inches to spare. I also made them so that they are just wide enough to be functional, but also so I can open the drawers with only the one cabinet door open.

RE: Just Purchased A Jayco X17Z

Love our 17Z!
For storage, ours is like this:
I cut openings in each end of the dinette benches and made cabinet doors for them. My wife and I each get one bench cabinet for clothes.
Food goes in the cabinets over the couch. On those cabinets, we have the less common doors that swing up.
Under the sink, I removed the wood back panel to make the cabinet larger. Then I made two pull out drawers on one side for utensils.
In the cabinet over the sink, I added a wooden shelf all the way across the middle, and that's where we keep our "real" dishes, mugs, etc.
The cabinet over the table is where we keep paper plates, games, and miscellaneous stuff.

RE: Shower head replacement

You're welcome. It has a twist knob at the bottom of the handle to turn it of. Plus, as a safety feature, it doesn't turn off completely. I shuts down to a very small single stream. It's what keeps you from getting burned. When you turn off a shower at the head completely and then turn it back on you get an instant of very hot water. The small flow in the off position prevents that.
It also comes in chrome metal, but it's more expensive.
I've had the Oxygenics regular shower head in my house for like 9 years and love them.

RE: Jayco x23f-new owner

Very nice camper!! Congratulations. I keep an electric heater in one of the storage compartments as a backup for the furnace. I did use it instead of the furnace once when I thought I was getting low on Propane, but usually just use the furnace.
It would be cheaper of course to use the electric heater instead of paying for propane, but I just find it more convenient to use the furnace.
Why not use the toilet? Since we went from popups to the hybrid, I've loved not having to use the campground facilities anymore. It's really not all that difficult to use and keep clean. Though I do have one friend that has a rule of only "number one" in his camper.

RE: Shower head replacement

Is the installation fairly standard or are there gotchas per manufacturer?
Unscrew the old one and screw the new oxigenics.........Standard procedure.
I'm not sure it'll be that easy. The Oxygenics (at the least the one I found on Amazon) is just a shower head while what I have now is a shower head + handle (like the Camco model) on a tube that's held up by a small plastic loop to the shower inside. In other words, an Oxygenics head on the end of a tube would have to be secured to the lining somehow whereas a head+handle would just be a swap out (assuming the tubing sizes are all standard.)
I'm not imagining a hard install, but unless one of the Oxygenics heads comes with a handle, it's not a simple swap out.
That depends on which Oxygenics head you get. The one most people get for their campers is the wand one and it's GREAT.
This is the one I have with a built in shut off at the handle.

RE: Too Much Tow Vehicle?

Yesterday I was very surprised at what I read on a sticker on the tonque of my Jayco X23J. This sticker stated that towing this trailer with a tow vehicle rated at one ton or more could result in injury or death.
I have never heard of such a thing. Does anyone know the logic behind this statement?
My 2010 Jayco 17Z has the same sticker on the tongue. I was thinking that maybe too much power could damage the tongue if you took off too fast? Maybe the frames are only rated for so much yank on them?

Congrats on the payoff, but especially the kids!
Yours are young yet, but our fondest camping memories were when our sons was little. Cherish those moments. We lost our son a few years ago, but the camping memories are forever.

Finally kicking off 2012

Heading out this afternoon for our first trip of the season. Really looking forward to that feeling of the first campfire of the year.
Just a weekend trip to our favorite local campground 45 minutes away, but nice all the same. And tomorrow is also our 22nd anniversary. Lucky to have a wife that would rather spend it camping than in a hotel :)
We're supposed to get thunder storms this afternoon, but clear after they pass through.

RE: what did you do to your hybrid today??

Friday, I hooked up and pulled it out of it's parking spot and onto the driveway to re-setup the equalizer hitch for the new truck. Had to buy a longer drop shank since the new truck is much taller.
Yesterday, I washed the trailer. Still have to dewinterize and sanitize today or tomorrow.
First weekend trip of the season is this Friday.

RE: Power Coverter/Outlet..................

Be careful with hard wiring it because the cord that normally plugs into the lighter may also reduce the voltage to something other than 12V.
Years ago, I wanted to hard wire an XM Skyfi receiver to my truck, but the lighter adapter lowered the voltage to something like 5 or 9 volts, I don't remember which.
I still hard wired it, but I bought a lighter jack at Radio Shack and tapped it into the 12v radio harness behind the dash. Then I ran the XM receiver power cord behind the dash and just plugged it in and taped it so it was tight. With the XM receiver mounted, all of the wires were hidden and it worked fine.

RE: Locked out

Brings back memories. Our second trip out with the new hybrid, I lost the whole set of keys an hour after setting up. I had put them on the bumper of the truck and we had to run out to a store in town. :o
My Jayco has fully attached tent ends ( Which i LOVE) so no going through there.
I ended up leaving my wife ans SIL at the camp while I drove home to get the spare set. Luckily, it was only an hour each way.
I now keep a spare set hidden in the truck just in case. :S

RE: TV Mounting Bracket

The 19" - 22" flat panels are really light weight these days. The swing-out brackets should be fine.
I recommend Amazon for TV brackets. I've bought three from them over the last year and the prices are less than half of the local store prices. Sometimes 1/4 the price.
Just go to Amazon and to a search for 22" TV wall mount and you'll find lots to choose from.
