RE: Good or Bad DIY? let me have it.

That is the first time I have seen a slide valve mounted where yours is. I wonder how many people are tempted to pull it just to see what it does.
I did something like you did with the wood spacer in the springs. I used alum shims on a chain and with a screw thru a existing hole in the spring.

RE: Fastgun Trouble

I learned a long time ago to always use anti-seize on SST threads. Just try to keep it from getting on your hands and clothing as it is hard to get off.

RE: Made In China Solar Panels You'd Better Move Fast!

Are panels actually being manufactured in the US?
There was Solindra but the idiots in charge could not do market research better than I could and they went belly up. The had a good solid product but China dumped a lot on the market and they could not compete.
I have to look at the empty buildings every time I go past.

RE: Replacing the truck due to cell phones

Yea we have a cell phone law and last month the CHP issued 30,000 tickets for cell phone driving yet every time I am driving I see people talking on hand held cell phones. Going to have to start taking away vehicles when caught I guess.
Glad you were not hurt more, just think of what would have happened if you were not in your truck but in a small car.

RE: best batteries for us

Another vote for the Trojan group 31. Mine is in it's eight year and still going strong.
Skipbee, are you saying you can fit two 29's in the stock battery box. They must have made the box bigger than my '01.

RE: Driving in high heat conditions

Long time ago I pulled a 14 foot trailer with a '66 Impala, small engine. I put a pump and spray system to cool the temps. I know a guy with a old Dodge that does that now because he pulls a heavy fiver. He and his truck are living proof that old farts and old CTD's go forever.

RE: Driving in high heat conditions

I had a old MH years ago and learned not to drive with a full propane tank. The tank was under the floor. Every time I did it would blow the relief valve from the desert heat on the road. I quickly learned not to do that and am thankful nothing lit off. I assume things are better insulated these days. Just a thought someone might make use of.

RE: The Whazoo's trip of many colors...Or...Brokefoot Mountain

whazoo, I'll PM the title to a book I just finished. It looks at the history of the overland travel and the geology of the areas they passed thru. Coombs Ridge got a few pages. I often wonder if I would have been able to endure the hardships those folks did on the six month trip. The description of the trek along the Humbolt River up in NV was really bad. Bad nasty water with hundreds of dead oxen in it. It was the only water so they picked a firm a dead oxen to crawl across to get to the nasty water next to it. Either that or sink in the muck and drink the stuff best you can. About the time they got that far many had run out of food so it was bloated ox for dinner. Man o man
I'll be in touch as I will want to bounce destinations off you for your expert opinion. I want to be in the desert for two or three months after the first of the year. Have to stay low in that time of the year but would love to go up to get an idea first hand of the country the overland parties encountered.

RE: The Whazoo's trip of many colors...Or...Brokefoot Mountain

Being a geology fan I recently figured out the San Juan was a meandering stream that formed as the the inland sea evaporated. Then the land rose and the meanders stayed and cut down following the same path it started out with. I am sure that is common knowledge to most first year geology students but I am slow to learn. The goosenecks of of the San Juan are a great sight.
Whazoo, your trips are always something to look forward to. Thanks for putting in the effort to share.

Lance Roof Question

I am pretty sure I know the answer but want to confirm. Would I find solid wood along the edges of the roof, like a 2x4 size solid wood? I want to put is some stout screws to hold a truss system on top of the roof. No weight to speak of, just a way to mount a bunch of solar.

RE: Adding solar to a pre-wired Lance 1030?

I'm not sure what the three strips would be for since the panel will be above them, I think. The install should be simple, for one panel cut four brackets out of alum. 90 degree angle and drill two holes in each. One hole to attach the bracket to the panel and the other to attach the bracket to the floating nuts in the track.

Take your dog with you camping. Get a Martindale collar for it so he can't back out of the collar and get him used to being on the end of a leash at all times.

RE: No more guessing how much water I put in

Since I can easily get to the top of my tank I have a marine deck plate in mine. I just open it up and can see how much water I have. Also great for cleaning the inside of growth.

RE: Question for the battery experts?

May I suggest Anderson connectors. Not the Power Pole but the bigger amp rated connectors. By the way, Power Pole connectors are great but not for joining two batteries. I find uses all the time for the Poles, they are great for replacing cigar lighter type.

RE: Honda generator and A/C

I always raise an eyebrow when people say their 2000 works just fine with a 13500. Mine will run it just fine at sea level and temps below 75 F but won't at 2000 feet and temps over 80 F. It will work for ten or so minutes but then the heat overwhelms the gen set.
