RE: OOOPS, it happened again

You say: "It happened again" How many times has this happened?
X2. You have not answered this question.
The stripped bleeder screw on top of the fuel filter will cause the problem you describe. The fuel system at the filter is under a vacuum and very sensitive to air leaks. You also said you changed tanks. Do you have some type of aux fuel tank?

RE: us 50

If you have some time stop and see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison just before you get to Montrose. If you want to see a spectacular canyon it is worth the fours hours it may take. Oh some of the best trout fishing on the planet is in the river you will be looking at. Getting down to the fish is another story you will understand when you see the canyon.

RE: Valve cores stick !

I have had the shrader valve stems fail to seal after checking air pressure. Sometimes the leak is very slow and you do not notice it. It may be the ones made in china just do not work properly as it has only been the last 5 years I have noticed this.
This is one reason I recommend TPMS systems. The ones that mount on the valve stem does the seal. Also you do not have to check your tire pressure with a tire gauge. Just read the output each morning before you head out. You can also check pressures after you are under way.

RE: 30 amp and 50 amp electric question

Get the adapter. When I use a campground I inspect the two outlets the 30 and 50. I use the one that is in better condition on my 30 amp trailer. Sometimes you will find the 30 amp is in very poor condition from lots of use.

RE: Pulling through Salt Lake City

Anybody pull through SLC west to east on I80 lately' Heading through there tomorrow or Thur.
I might add,it is a pretty good pull over Parleys Canyon on 80 just east of Salt Lake, there are better routes, but a little out of the way if you coming from Nevada on 80 . I would go north on 215 ,and 15 ,and catch 84 east, then it intersects with 80 a few miles east of Morgan. IMO a better route out of Salt Lake to Wyoming if you are towing.
This is excellent advice for going east or west. You miss the grade between Park City and SLC on I-80 and the traffic. I would not want to pull or desend that grade at all.
X2. Mid day is best for Salt Lake City. Fridays sometimes are busy all day. Go the few extra miles as suggested if you are towing.

RE: Front seems like it is drifting, went to CAT scales

And, on a side note, here's a way to verify your alignment AT HOME. :-)

http://forums.corral.net/forums/handling/931155-how-do-your-own-alignments-low-cost-effective.html
One very important thing to check first. Make sure your wheels are not bent. Jack each off the ground and check for run out. More than 1/16 inch run out and you can not check the alignment with this procedure. This may have been covered and I could have missed it. Also as was indicated the car has to be on a level and flat surface. All four wheels need to be at the same elevation with the exception of toe in. A level flat surface is not critical for the toe in measurement. Most driveways will not have a level flat surface.
I did like the way he checked the toe in.

RE: Cost of new Duramax

What do you use the truck for. The fact it is a business I doubt you are towing a 5th wheel. But if you are you need to understand the new ones are much taller than your 06 and you may have bed rail to trailer problems with your 5th wheel. Also the best of the Dmax's was the 06 model year as far as the drive train goes. At 60,000 I would keep it unless you want a new truck and can afford it.
Pricing has been well covered in previous posts.

RE: Brake controller

If you go with a Prodigy get the cable for your dodge. Then it is simple to install. The electrical is then just plug and play.
I prefer the P3 because of the extra diagnostics and the current reading.

RE: Bed liner and 5th wheel hitch

May depend on the hitch you install. I have the Reese Signature series hitch. It worked better to do the under bed rail installation before the spraying of the bed liner. I have a good seal between the bed pucks and the bed as a result.

RE: It happened again!

Even with the B&W if you do not insert the locking pin the hitch may open under the right conditions. That is exactly what the OP did. Here is his quote. "I dont believe I have a "sfety pin" there is a little flapper that drops down into a groove on the handle so you can put a padlock on it. Is that what youre refering to? If so - no that was not down and locked in place." Also you can high pin a B&W and it will also drop a trailer when you hit the next sizable bump in the road.
It does not matter what hitch you have if you do not insert the locking device the hitch probably will fail and drop your trailer under the right conditions of hitting a sizable bump etc.

RE: Did I choose the wrong gear ratio 3.73?

The only thing I would note is that the 4:10 axle increase tow rating by around 3,800 lbs versus the 3:73.
The difference on the 2009 2500 HD was only 2500 lbs. 2009 Silverado Brochure But in the OP's that does not matter as he is towing a 7000 lb trailer. He is well below the GCWR rating of 16,000 for a 6.0 with 3:73 gears.

RE: Trailer Wheel bearings maintenance

What is the difference between the wheel bearings on a tt and a car or tv? How often do you do the bearings on your tv?
Please...yall....don't take the bait. Been there discussed many times. ;)
X2 do a search on bearings and you will find enough reading for about two days.

RE: Did I choose the wrong gear ratio 3.73?

Your 6.0 will develop 353 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque with either a 3.73 or a 4.10.
The engine only produces that horsepower and torque at a single RPM.
s0
Not quite true. The 6.0 has a fairly flat hp curve near it's max hp.
RPM Torque HP
4,700 381.4 341.5
4,800 377.6 345.3
4,900 373.4 348.6
5,000 368.9 351.3
5,100 363.9 353.3
5,200 358.4 354.6
5,300 352.2 355.2
5,400 345.3 354.9
5,500 337.9 353.9
5,600 330.4 352.6
5,700 323.7 351.4
The rpm range is almost 20%, more than the 10% that the gear difference between a 3.73 and 4.10

RE: 5th Wheel Storage

14 foot doors. 60 ft long so you can have your TV hitched to trailer while inside shop. At least 30 ft wide so there is room for two vehicles side by side. Floor drains if local codes will allow them.
If you only have one door an exhaust fan in the rear of building.
If you are building in snow country have the building oriented such the snow will slide off the side of the building and not on the side where the doors are.

RE: Did I choose the wrong gear ratio 3.73?

Your 6.0 will develop 353 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of torque with either a 3.73 or a 4.10. The rear gear ratio will not change the power output of your truck. The rear end gear only changes the final gear ratio between the engine and rear wheels. The transmission will automatically find the ratio that will allow the engine to run at its peak hp rpm. So with the 3.73 you may have to run in 5th gear where the 4.11 would allow you to run in 6th gear. Nothing wrong with that. That is the purpose of a transmission.
Now for someone who has most of his miles without a trailer you will burn less fuel at the end of the year with the 3.73.
For your application the 3.73 was the best choice and the truck will be able to tow trailers up to the 13,000lb the truck it rated for. You may not be the first unit to the top of the hill but you will not be the last either.

He was not properly hitched. If the flapper was not down he was not hitched. It does not matter what kind of hitch you have if you do not properly hitch and have the locking device in place ( in the case the flapper) it will come unhitched. In this case I suspect he was high hitched which can allow a pull test but the first bump it will separate from the truck.

RE: 5th wheel pivot point?

There is no substitute for practice. Take a couple hours and a large empty parking lot and a couple traffic cones and practice. You will be glad you did the next time you are in a crowded RV park. Traffic cones are much cheaper than repairing a rubber roof.

RE: RV Park in Yuma

There are are so many RV parks in Yuma it would be hard to suggest one.
Not sure which ones would be open in June as that is the off season. I would suggest going to Yuma and drive around the Marine base and pick out what you like after seeing them. I am sure you will be able to find a place without making advance reservations. Yuma is much like a ghost town in the summer. There are many parks very close to the base. The Fortuna de Oro RV Park is a nice park but about 10 miles from the Marine base.
