RE: The Wife dropped a bomb on me.

Thanks Mountain Mama. That link, and the info available there, is very helpful.

RE: V10 oil pressure sending unit

... The gauge is actually an on/off device, like the idiot light bulb. It does not read oil pressure.
So, what you are saying is that the "gauge" is nothing more than a fancy idiot light? If so, that disappoints me; I thought I had a real gauge on my V-10. :M Is that also true for the temp gauge which, from what I've read elsewhere, only rises from the "normal" reading when you have a serious temp problem?

RE: The Wife dropped a bomb on me.

If PPL posts the sale price of consigned RVs they sell it is not clear to me how you get that info from their website. All I see is asking prices for unsold vehicles, including any reduction from original asking price.

I think they are used mainly by new members (not yet by Momma, though). They contain lots of worthwhile info and should, in my opinion, be kept.

RE: How much information is TOO MUCH information?

I, too, have often wondered about the meaning of “when children are present.” To me, it should mean “when children are out and about,” as during the periods when school starts in the morning and when it lets out in the afternoon, but not during the rest of the school day. However, I’d be willing to bet that the typical LEO would offer a different interpretation….

RE: How many AMPS

I find it both sad and ironic that anyone would “need” to use a blow dryer, make coffee and use the microwave oven at the same time while “camping.”
Personally, I’d stick with the 30 amp service if I lived in RI.

RE: A good tow dinghy

Hi gotsmart –
Why would you ever want to lash down the steering wheel of the Smartcar while towing? It seems to me that’s the last thing you should do (unless, perhaps, you find yourself in a position where you need to back up).

RE: "It's not fair"!

I must confess that I watch these shows from time to time. What kills me is how many buyers, however young they may be, feel that they “need” stainless steel and granite countertops in the kitchen, crown molding throughout the house (away from House Hunters, how many people even know what crown molding is?), hardwood floors, etc. Also how many of them complain that kitchens, bathrooms, etc. that seem perfectly OK to me, at least for the indefinite future, are “dated” and must be remodeled. A pet peeve of mine is the amount of needless repetition on House Hunters. Another is the things buyers pick up on that are absolutely trivial in the bigger scheme of things.
Oh well; it’s entertainment (of sorts). :o

RE: Maiden voyage of the "SS Brewster" complete...picture link

Hi Brad –
Let me add my kudos on your first RV adventure. Sounds like you all had a great time despite a glitch or two!
Re the water heater, I don’t think your RV has a pilot light in the traditional sense, like the one in your home water heater. If it’s like my 2004 unit, hitting the switch activates a spark igniter. If that isn’t working, but you can light the pilot by hand, it sounds to me like an igniter problem. If it won’t light at all, sounds like cobwebs or such, as another poster mentioned. Or, perhaps a bad thermocouple if the pilot will light but not stay lit. A good project for you to work on while the RV is at home.
As for those crank-operated washing machines, I’d suggest you save your money. We bought one, tried it once, and gave up on it. Ended up practically giving it away at a garage sale.

RE: New here, new to RVing.....

Another thing I don’t see mentioned specifically here is age of the tires. According to the rule many RVers follow, the 5er should be on or due for its third set. Needless to say, this is an issue that should be dealt with before your sister leaves Alaska.
Good luck and have fun!

RE: Power outlets

Hi Samantha -
If by “all of the outlets stopped working” you are saying that they all did work at first, it sure sounds to me like a tripped breaker or GFI, or a blown fuse….
That the furnace is now working indicates to me that there is no problem with the house battery(ies) since there is obviously enough DC power to operate the furnace control board.
My simplistic approach to troubleshooting would be as follows: Using my handy multimeter I’d first ensure that there is 110 AC at the generator (when running). If not, check for a breaker or fuse there you may not have found. If so, make sure that the coach umbilical cable is plugged into the proper receptacle (if that’s what your coach requires; mine does).
Next, check voltage at the house battery both with the gennie running and with it shut off. If it’s noticeably higher with the gennie running, your converter is likely OK. If not, check for 110 AC at the converter input. If you have it, look for a fuse or breaker on the converter that you can reset or replace, and check for DC output from the converter. If you don’t have 110 AC at the converter input, your problem is between the gennie and the converter.
If the converter checks out and NONE of the AC outlets work, I’d pull them one by one (starting with the GFI one(s)) and check the wires attached to each for voltage. I think you can see where I’m going with this. To be safe, this step involves a lot of starting and shutting down the gennie.
Good luck! It sure would be nice if you could plug into shore power to see what does/doesn’t work then.

RE: Armless Camping Chair - Update

We have two of those chairs. They are light and easily stowed. However, both my wife and I find them to be relatively uncomfortable. And, I agree that one of them probably wouldn’t support a 225 pounder.

RE: inverter problem?

I tend to agree with Executive. However, if it’s not your batteries, I’d say it’s your converter. I don’t see how your inverter would come into the picture for lights, pump and other DC loads.

RE: Tear drop tt reviews and recommendations

Hi vidman –
I guess teardrops come in different sizes, and the trailers mentioned in some of the prior posts aren’t even teardrops.
My wife and I were considering a really small one for a while. However, we decided against it since it was just too small. E.g., we imagined ourselves stuck in it during inclement weather at a campground. Basically, there was room inside to lie down and that’s about it. Personally, I kind of like the small Aliners.
I realize that you are very limited as to what you can safely tow with your TV. Good luck!

That Lance looks good! However, as I view the floorplan, it appears to me that the toilet is inaccessible unless the slide is out. Is that true?

I don’t pull a TT. However, the best advice I would give your son is to spend a LOT of time on this and the Beginning RVing forums. He will learn a lot.
I wish him good luck and happy camping!

RE: First Time RVers-Take 2

... Have you heard of Monument Valley? Canyon De Chelly? Those are things I would want to see on the way back east. ...
To those I would add Arches park in northeast Utah.
As to Long Island, I agree 100% with Mike&Rose.

RE: Gunsmoke

I liked Chester in the old Gunsmoke episodes. Believe “whiny” (whiney"?) was part of his persona for the show. I think he made a mistake leaving it and that his best later performance was in “Duel,” which I have watched and enjoyed several times.
