RE: First Time RVers-Take 2

... Have you heard of Monument Valley? Canyon De Chelly? Those are things I would want to see on the way back east. ...
To those I would add Arches park in northeast Utah.
As to Long Island, I agree 100% with Mike&Rose.

I took the blind spot test. A real eye opener. Thanks for posting.

RE: Gunsmoke

I liked Chester in the old Gunsmoke episodes. Believe “whiny” (whiney"?) was part of his persona for the show. I think he made a mistake leaving it and that his best later performance was in “Duel,” which I have watched and enjoyed several times.

RE: Trip Planning NC to Locations Out West

I agree that your planned first 3 days could be a killer. Would you do all the driving, or would DW share with it?
Much as I love the Grand Canyon (North Rim, I assume), I think one day might be enough there unless you plan to hike down into the canyon; that would put a different complexion on it. (I’ve never hiked down from the North Rim but, years ago, I did hike up there from Phantom Ranch)
I think you’d not be disappointed if you could fit in a day at Arches National Park on your way to Idaho. There are several decent places to overnight in Moab.
Good luck, and have fun!

I feel sorry for these good folk who get the run-around from you guys. They are just out to make a few shekels to support their families.

RE: working on your RV at an RV park?

I don't see how one could use a power washer on a rig and leave "little to no mess."

RE: Salvage Title on Class C motor home

I believe “salvage vehicle” often means that the vehicle has been declared “totaled” by an insurer. I.e., the repair will cost more than the vehicle is worth. As we all know, it doesn’t take much these days for a vehicle to be “totaled.”
If I were younger, and especially if I intended to keep the vehicle for a long time (as I am wont to do), I’d take a chance on one after a good inspection by competent people. However, I’d prefer not to jump through the hoops to clear that salvage title, if that is even possible here in the Golden State.
As others have said, check with your insurance agent before doing more.
Just my $.02.

Hi Ayn –
Thanks for the link. And, thanks to you, too, Wilpower for the link. Unfortunately, I’m not in an area to take advantage of that offer.

RE: Weber 120 - Follow Up

I have a Weber Silver A at home and a baby Q for the RV. Both are great grills.
Just wish I could find a source for replacement prongs/bracket (for lack of a better term) for the spit on the rotisserie attachment. The prongs on mine separated from the bracket. Tried J-B Weld with well-cleaned surfaces, but it lasted for only one rotisserie session.

RE: A Very Sad Day for the National Park Service

… Pretty dumb thing for a guy on the lam to do. He will probably do more dumb stuff and get caught or shot.
I hope it is the latter. I offer my deepest condolences to the family.

RE: Drinking from a fire hose.......

Hi Tiffany –
First, I take my hat off to your husband.
Second, is your tentative plan to pick up the rental in Oregon and return it in Maryland? If so, that means you all have to get from West Virginia to Oregon before the run starts. As others have advised, I think you’d be best off buying an RV before you leave and use that to transport the family to Oregon. If you buy a decent unit, it should be just as dependable as a rental one. Surely you can find a CruiseAmerica unit with a lot less than 135K miles on it.
Again, congrats to your husband, and to you for supporting him in this endeavor.

Hi Ayn –
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like just the thing for my wife, and the training wouldn’t hurt me either. May I ask what the program costs?

I second that. In fact, a sleeping bag is what I use for myself in the cabover bed, together with a comforter.

RE: Eagle Scout

Congrats to you and, especially, to your son!
I attained the Eagle Scout rank many years ago. In those days, no paperwork was involved; a Scout just had to get his 21 merit badges. Of course, some of them had to be the right ones – as I recall, there were at least 10 required badges. This was in the late 50s.
I wish more kids these days had the chance/inclination to take part in the Scouting experience.

RE: foul stench in Sears bill envelope

My wife, who doesn’t deal well with any artificial scents, has problems with frequent ads in the Sunday paper from a major department store. Doesn’t bother me, but why would anyone scent their ads?

RE: Grandkids in 55 over resorts

If I were in a 55+ park (haven’t been yet), and if I had grandkids (none of those yet either) I wouldn’t dream of bringing them to the park.
That said, I think the camping experience is GREAT for kids. Anything to get them away from their video games, etc. and into the great outdoors. It’s just that there are so many other places to bring the kids.

RE: RV sales people?

Most RV customers are only interested in the floor plan and colors. A salesperson who would go into depth about anything else would probably scare off a potential buyer!
I disagree. I would hope for a salesperson who could go into reasonable depth as to any questions I have.

I, too, got a kick out of Reverend’s comment. Around here – and in the RV – it is the DH who does most of the vacuuming.

RE: new house battery needed in old tioga

If your gennie won’t crank (due to reduced house battery capacity) and the “emergency start switch” trick doesn’t work, just start the engine and let it run while trying to start the gennie. I don’t know whether just having the engine running would suffice or whether you’d have to run it long enough to charge the house battery up to an adequate capacity.
Good luck!
