RE: FDA Report of Diamond Plant (SC)

Possibly because those companies aren't any more committed to quality control than Diamond is? Sigh.

RE: FDA Report of Diamond Plant (SC)

Yeah, I'm guessing it's probably pretty difficult to clean cardboard and duct tape. Good grief.

RE: Eye infection Won't Go away

I think it would be unusual for the only symptom of an allergy to be in one eye. Normally you'd see other symptoms, like intense itchiness over most of the body, paw licking and face rubbing, etc. I think I'd ask the vet for a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist, if there's one anywhere nearby. Just like human medicine, a vet specialist is more costly than a general practitioner. But sometimes in the long run it's more cost effective. Plus eyes are something I just don't fool around with.

RE: nutrition facts, carbohydrates?????

I'm certainly not a dietician or doctor, but my guess is it would depend on a person's ideal weight and the typical amount of calories per day he/she should eat to maintain that weight. I'm guessing the advice would be to limit consumption of carbs to less than a certain percentage of calories needed per day. Carbohydrates and protein contain four calories per gram, fat contains nine calories per gram. So it's easy to look at the nutrition data for any item and figure out how many calories are from each. Of course the figures are rounded, so it won't be exact. But close enough. Also, I suspect a doctor or dietitian would advise looking at the nutritional content for an entire meal (or snack) instead of item by item. Fruit has a lot of carbs (sugar), but it also has a lot of nutritional value. If some fruit is eaten as part of a meal of baked chicken and steamed broccoli, then the carb percentage of the entire meal would probably be okay. But as I said, I'm not a doctor or a dietitian. Those would be your best sources of information.

RE: Teenager At Home and RVing

My thoughts have always been raising my children so that they are able to walk out of the house fully armed for life at 18. Why? Cause that's the legal age and I've been influenced and experienced too by way too kids that know absolutely nothing of responsibility and life at 18. . . . they blossom and display proper behaviors when I extend trust in them and give them responsibility. . . . I think teenagers are not dummies. She will get exposure to things I don't want her to whether I like it or not; whether I bind her tightly or not. I feel the need to arm and prepare her so she knows how to deal with this exposure and so she knows I am approachable when life happens. We share a lot of the same parenting philosophy.

RE: Teenager At Home and RVing

I stayed by myself for as long as a week at a time when I was 16 (both parents needed to travel for work sometimes). At that point I had a full driver's license and a reliable vehicle, and numerous relatives within a 15 minute drive. And now I wouldn't hesitate to let my 16-yo son stay home for two or three nights if he wanted. Like I was, he is very mature and responsible for his age, has good judgment and close relatives who are only a few minutes away.

RE: Pets while driving

The couch should have seat belts. The couches in most A's and C's do. They should be bolted to the floor of the RV, so yes you may have to lift up the bed part to find them.

RE: Easy-to-digest calories??

or start giving him "special breakfasts", too? That's what I'd do. It sounds like he just needs a little something extra to get his appetite going.

RE: Cat peeing everywhere

I'd add at least one more litter box, and preferably several more. The standard advice for cats and litter boxes is one for each cat plus one more. Some cats really want one box for peeing and one for pooping. If possible, put a box over the spots where the 17-yo likes to pee. You also might try placing disposable puppy pads around the litter boxes. It won't help stop the cats from not using the boxes, but it'll make clean-up a lot easier. I've heard of quite a few cats with litterbox issues who will use puppy pads. And make sure you clean all areas well with an enzyme-based pet stain/odor remover. Don't waste your time and effort with vinegar or anything like that.

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

I have to believe that all these good people that have reported success giving a dog oral medication using a pillgun, hiding it in food, shoving it down his throat, etc. have never really dealt with a large truly difficult-to-pill dog. Over the years I've had more trouble with small, short-snouted, big headed dogs (yep, like the OP's Lhasa and Shih Tzus, Pekingese, etc.) than I have with larger dogs. Part of it is that I have small hands, and with those types of dogs you usually have to wrap your hand around their whole head to get and hold the mouth open. And it seems to me the structure of their mouths/palates makes it much harder to get a pill on the far back of the tongue. But that could just be my perception.

RE: ANOTHER recall from Diamond~It's now time to contact FDA

There are more voluntary recalls of other brands of food manufactured at the Diamond plant. I don't believe these have been posted by anyone here yet. If they have, then sorry for the repeat. Canidae Natural Balance Wellness

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

If you must attempt to hide it in something pumpkin puree(not pumpkin pie filling) is very effective. It's thick enough that they don't realize there's a pill in there most of the time. Never met a dog who doesn't love it and it's good for them. I could introduce you to a large number of dogs who detest pumpkin. I have no idea why so many people believe it's widely loved but dogs, but IME it's no different than any other fruit or veggie--some dogs like it and some don't.

RE: giving a pill to a difficult dog

Pill gun...get one at Petsmart. We have had difficult dogs and cats over the years and we found this the easiest to use and it was the most effective. That's what I'd try. A pill gun is inexpensive, so if it doesn't work you haven't lost much. But IMO it makes pilling cats and non-food-motivated dogs a lot easier. Here's a link so you can see one: Link

RE: New Maryland state appeals court ruling on Pit Bulls

How many of these made the national news? Newborn dead after family dog attacks (a lab) Dog breaks free, attacks another at Brevard beach park St Bernard-Lab mix Three dog bite attacks JRT Child's Death Following Dog Attack Ruled Accidental Mastiff/Rhodesian mix Golden woman injured in dog attack Karelian Bear Dog I saw a story about the RR/Mastiff attack on a televised national news program. It was either MSNBC or CBS Nightly News, I don't remember which. I read about most of those on various online news sites. Don't ask me which ones, I regularly visit several news sites and couldn't say which one(s) I saw the stories on now. I do remember the story about the RR/Mastiff mix got fairly broad coverage. I don't remember reading about the Brevard Beach incident.

RE: Free Kindle Books

A lot of Amazon's free books are free for a very short time--sometimes as little as a couple of hours. And some stay free for weeks. Sometimes when they're no longer free for everyone they're still free for Prime members. You just have to make sure before you "one click." Chopper Bill, you can return an e-book to Amazon and get your money back. I believe you have a seven day return period.

No, I didn't miss it. But since it's completely impossible for anyone on this forum to know the thoughts of the majority of RV'ers . . . I kindly ignored it. ;)

RE: Myrtle Beach SC

This website is the only place I have ever heard of people that dont like OL's makes you wonder if some people just like to find a reason to complain.Everybody likes different things but the majority of RVers like OL's or it would not stay booked.:) We know quite a few people in real life who don't like OL. And that's okay. Really, it is. We prefer MBTP, to the point that we wouldn't stay anywhere else. But I know some people don't like it. And that's okay, too. Really. Just because someone else has a different preference than you (generic "you") doesn't invalidate your choice at all.

RE: Any dog parks in Pigeon Forge?

I don't believe it is ever acceptable to let a dog run leash free unless it is in an enclosed lot. And that is exactly what a dog park is -- a large, fenced area specifically for dogs to run and play off leash. Most municipalities of any size have at least one dog park nowadays.
