RE: Late and in pain

I've been in similiar pain due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and rheumatoid nodules developing between the tendons/bones etc., in the feet. Yow-ee - feet on fire and much more painful at night than when trying to walk.
The steak house may not have used MSG, but salt is a standard seasoning used on the steaks and yes, it can cause fluid retention. Might see if dear doctor might put you on a diuretic for the few times you consume sodium. When possible, avoid canned foods - go for fresh/frozen to lessen sodium consumption. When traveling, I do eat canned vegetables, but I rinse the contents before cooking to get rid of excess sodium. It has helped.
I am trying not to take my narcotic med for my feet/leg pain. RA doctor put me on Plaquenil (malaria med) and it has reduced the inflammation. I take Ibuprophen daily and that too helps. I get a liver function test (bloodwork) every 3 months and so far all is good.
If my feet are really on fire, I try to lay with them elevated above my heart. I will put my feet up on the headboard as pillows don't work as well. I also use aspercream.

RE: When are you ready to go home?

When I start gtting bored with the campground, I start venturing out to the surrounding area and that generally cures that bored feeling. I'll get a local newspaper to see what's happening and find something to attend. Might even go yard sale hunting. I might agree with you about liking the home dishwasher, but I don't miss those amenities enough to cut short a camping trip. I like the CG showers for water quantity and water pressure, and I don't have to clean the soap scum. I like the camper more than home - less possessions to be ruled by, and if I so choose, the view can be different daily. And - neighbors seem to be alot nicer at the campgrounds. No competition for a manicured lawn!

RE: Chuck Boxes

I designed one that goes over the sink of my PUP, and it has a battery florescent light for dishwashing (standing in your shadows otherwise), and an extension for the coffee maker and filters and jug water. The box itself holds the dishes/cups, etc., and stores nicely in the aisle when on the road.

RE: How useful are the inside showers in a pop-up?

I like my shower and use it. Great for a quick clean up - wet down, lather up and rinse off. I also use it to clean pots/pans too awkward for the kitchen sink!
I too agree, the bathroom is well worth the investment...much nicer to have the facilities right there than to have to walk to a buggy bathhouse in the middle of the night.

RE: Where do you live?

Rural - surrounded on 3 sides by sod farm, front by a river.

RE: RVer's who sell at craft shows

While I don't know any personally, there are a slew who stay at Candy Hill Campground in Winchester, VA and sell at the annual Apple Blossom Festival. You might call Candy Hill if no other responses to your post.

RE: Why don't more families "motorhome" vs "travel trailer"?

In addition to the financial factor, hooking/unhooking up the motorhome when you need to make a run to the store is not practical. Easier to set up the trailer, then use the tow vehicle to run around in. (Especially when the kids are begging for Mc Donald's and the adults aren't into fixing dinner)
Another aspect: when there is an engine issue - cheaper and easier to repair a tow vehicle than the motorhome.....

RE: high wall pup question

I am a wee bit shorter (5'6"), and use the aid of a sponge mop to help push in the canvas so it doesn't bunch in the corners. I do have to allow 'settlement time' before trying to latch the corners.

RE: are the redbuds out yet?

Daffodils are in bloom in Southern MD on the Potomac, Forcythia also in full bloom. Day lillies are up about 5".

RE: Am I crazy? - Middle of March

Here in MD, it's been in the 70's & made it to 80 already. Have my PUP open in the back yard and spent a day/night in it. Had to turn on the AC for about 15 minutes as no air moving one hot day, then the night, the furnace kicked in around 4am and ran just the one time. I've got camping fever - am hoping my appointments will allow a get away.

RE: Need healthy chicken recipes

Of all the cookbooks, I've really been impressed by "Fix It and Forget It" Diabetic Cookbook - Slow Cooker. I adapt the recipes for oven, stovetop and pressure cooker with excellent results. It's 'real food' that everyone can enjoy. (I was raised on cow and pig with an occassional yard bird for variety)
To lower fat in beef burgers, I rinse the cooked burger off with warm water. I try to cook (roast) using a rack. I've been making a dill sauce for both chicken and pork. I use Mrs. Dash products, more pepper, but still catch myself using Natures Seasoning. I don't use salt when cooking, and let everyone salt their own servings. My desire to munch/chew beyond the meal is pretty much satisfied with raw veggies, almonds (tried popcorn, but require real butter).

RE: diabetic neuropathy

Mine is not yet diabetic....its from rheumatoid arthritis and the nodules between tendons, etc. I've been on Plaquenil for a few months and the infammation has decreased enough to walk a bit with less pain. Some nights require pain meds to sleep, but am doing better. Ibuprofen during the day.

RE: Timonium MD RV Show

Am planning to attend today....if I can get myself together. Saw a TT model I liked last year and want to see whether it's been modified for current year. Currently a Pop up camper, but thinking of going full time - so......
Only made it through 2 of 3 buildings last year.....

RE: How much does free cost?

I can remember getting yardsticks free at checkout as an advertisement for the hardware store or fabric shop.
Remember the free gifts you got years back for being a credit card customer with one of the gas companies (ie., Esso)? I still have a few floating around.
As for now-adays....those free cruises, motel stays - all you have to "PAY" is for transportation....

RE: Mini Coffee Brewer

I have a Black & Decker single-serve which I used to use - came with a preformed screen filter, which to me let in too much sediment, so I'd cut a cone paper filter to fit inside the screen filter and had a nice cuppa....
I loved my Braun coffee maker with water filter, but it died. Replaced it with a Mr. Coffee with water filter and I do like it alot.

RE: Broken Leg

I split the two bones just below the knee and have plates holding them together. This happened in 2007, and it was several months before I was weight bearing (maybe 3), was to use a walker, then cane. Still have the walker, never touched the cane, but still use the crutches if walking on uneven terrain or going a long distance.
I drove (automatic) within 2 weeks of surgery (went off pain meds) with my left leg/foot operating both gas and brake. Propped right leg over the console. Drove from FL to MD that way with no problems. I had a passenger to assist me with pumping gas, etc. At this time I was still in a wheel chair, which I could fit behind the seat of the truck.

I picked up a Maryland RX discount card, and have tried using it at RiteAid, but pharmacist tells me that my RiteAid 'wellness' card gives a better discount.

RE: DVD and CD storage?

I still keep the DVDs in their cases, primarily because I might want to swap them at a future date (example: visit Ed McKays and sell those I don't want, buy those I do want). I keep the DVD's in a tote at present. A friend keeps theirs in a binder, and many are scratched beyond viewing. Guess dust gets on the pages and scratches when DVDs are slid in and out of their pockets. (kid factor too)

RE: How many miles would you travel in 1 day?

From what I've read in various forums, 300 miles a day is about the limit that most are comfortable driving. I go solo, so distance is not an issue for me, but I will say I prefer no more than 5 hours drive time so I have set up time unless I'm moteling it during the trip.

RE: Talk me into/out of full-timing

Again, I thank you for your input, suggestions and advice.....
I'd forgotten about Escapees....
definately something to factor into the plan (notice I am plotting a bit more seriously).
Not sure of all the details, but am plotting to sell off one s&b, keep the one with lower taxes (at least for a while). Sell, divide my possessions (including photos and historical heirlooms). CD most of the funds, maybe a small annuity. Utilize my eldest's address for mail, etc. (at least for the beginning), and begin re-budgeting for transportation, lot rent (cg fees, etc), propane, groceries and 'regular expenses' (ie., auto insurance). The info on this forum is wonderful. I will have to look into the small conveniences such as a cell phone booster, the pros/cons of wireless internet via cell phone or something like the Tengo which I've tried a few times and like (longer term, cheaper). Lots of little things to investigate more seriously.
As long as I can drive and have the truck, I think I can do this.
Thanks again for all of your input.
