RE: Questions about tent camping in bear country

Remember not to eat in your tent, even when not in bear country.
I use an extra large T-shirt over my shirt while cooking and than wash it out after the meal. Sometimes while cooking you slash grease or food on your clothes.
I picked up that hint in Jasper NP but did learn that you need more than one T-shirt because if you only have one, it rains for three days in a row and does not dry.

RE: Tent camping with a C-pap

Ask your doctor if you can use Provent. Two little plugs with holes that fit in the end of your nose. I use them all of the time but they do not work for my husband as well as the C-pap.
It works better for my husband than nothing so when we go tent camping he does use them, with the doctor's permission.

RE: Yellowstone Crowds

Before you leave buy the book Yellowstone Treasures. It gives you lots of information about things in the park you had no idea where there. We spent twelve days there in 2010 and did not have time to see everything we wanted to see.
The elk are coming down from the mountains in September so you should get some great pictures.
We were in a tent and the weather was not too cold for us.

RE: Yellowstone in the Fall

Yellowstone is still crowded in September, just not as crowded. They close one of the campgrounds early so there are not as many campsites.
We always go in September and love it.

RE: Recommendation near Zion National Park

Email both the NP and Dixie National Forest for information about boondocking in the area.
And be very specific about what you mean by boondocking and your plans for waste disposal.

RE: I still read books, the kind without batteries!

I not only read books, I reread books so I have to keep them. Thousands of books, way too many sit on my shelves.

RE: Lake Michigan camping?

Manistee NF has a campground on Lake Michigan, no electricity but nice sites. It is several miles from the town of Manistee and I think it is the Lake Michigan campground.

RE: Questions about tent camping in bear country

We have tent camped in all of the places you will be camping in. The food that we have to keep in the car goes in a box with a tight seal in the car with some moth balls laid on top. I do not know if the month balls do any good but we have never had any problem from the bears and there have been bears in the campgrounds in Banff, Jasper and Waterton Lakes while we were there as well as in Yellowstone, Glacier and several others.
Be sure to have good bear spray with you at all times.

RE: Extreme Water Conservation- Share your secrets?

If you do not have a dog or cat who can help perhaps setting them out at night would get them washed by racoons.

RE: Hot weather camping

I hate heat too so while I sit by the fire on days with temperatures over 80 I have a fan blowing directly on me. I find several smaller fans work better for a group than one large rotating fan.
Good luck.

RE: Has anyone decided NOT to upgrade?

Yes my husband wants something smaller. We have friends who get something bigger every few years. Now they are very limited on where they can camp. Went to too many RV shows.

RE: black streaks

I spit on my handkerchief once and rubbed it against the streak. The black came off. I do not think I would have enough spit to do the whole thing let alone hire out.

RE: Cleaning TT

I use the $1 yarn map that I got from Dollar Tree on one side, my husband uses the great brush my parents got that the hose connects to. As it is at least 30 years old I do not know if they make them any more. They both work.Their sponge mop falls apart and a good one does not last long.
In 2003 we ran out of the RV cleaner and I bought some Awesome from Dollar Tree to finish the job. It worked as well as the expensive RV stuff and we have only used Awesome since than. I understand you have to rinse well but we always have so I do not know what would happen if you did not.

RE: New Diet for me...

My husband did not drink enough so we buy the little packs of lemonade mix that you add to a bottle of water. We keep some cold in the refrigerator all of the time.
And there are non caffenine teas. I am not saying they are good.
Good luck on your diet, I have been GF for over 30 years.

RE: Grease splatter guard and lids for frying pans

Before I found a great lid at a garage sale I bought a pizza pan and had my husband put a wooden dresser knob handle on it. It has been working for about 15 years now. The PP was really cheap so I always make sure that I dry it well.

When we have a cooler we put heavy pieces of wood on top of it.

RE: State Parks "Space Spoiled Me"!

There are some state parks that have the crowded together sites. The kind where you can hear your neighbor belch.
We drive thru parks and make notes on the sites, some we have notes that say overcrowded, few trees and little sites and than someone here will say what a great campground it is.
Different strokes for different folks.
