RE: Oh that smell. I now have it.

We never use chemicals and only once in a while catch a smell inside. I am wondering if your roof vent for the holding tank is compromised? Also could be we live in a cooler climate than you? Still why would you smell that inside?

RE: how old should you go.

After reading all the posts about folks buying new RV only to have terrible quality issues I will keep my current rig. Atleast I know what I have and it was paid for since day one. If it has been good to you keep it and take care.

RE: Propane question

We use a one gallon refillable propane bottle. Takes up very little space and will do everything your old #20 did. Draw back is they are spendy so shop around. I lock mine to the table.

RE: Water Hose

Often regular garden hoses contain high consentrations of led and are not designed to be used for drinking water. This is a fact. It's your call.

RE: converter help!

I would be surprised if the converter survived. The AC probley was not on so survived. If fridge was on A.C. probley toasted circuit board and maybe heating element. Lites may run off battery but I doubt converter is working in any form. If house plug was done by a qualified electrician they may have coverage for such a mistake. If it was done by others probley an expensive lesson. Others may have more encouraging thoughts. Sorry

RE: LED Light Fires?

The cheap Chinese LED's I bought run a whole lot cooler than my incondescents ever did. Only one partial failure so far this season.

RE: built in gas latern in camper?

I had one in my 58 Oasis. Loved it truly a great idea. I cannot find another to put in my current HTT so enjoy.

RE: Smoke Detector & Carbon Monoxide Detector

Could just be old batteries that sat on the shelf a bit too long. Easily checked with a volt meter.I have originals in my 01 HTT .

RE: Portable Waste Tanks

I use it when I have to. If you can safely move it go for as large as your holding tank. They are no fun to over fill. Be sure you have a place to dump. At our camp site any kids caught using trailer potty during the day have to dump the tank.

RE: Travel trailer leak question ?

That has to be extremely frustrating. I mean the trailer is almost new. The location of the leak would seem to be a quality issue. My local dealer offers a pressurization service where they pressurize the interior and spray down the outside with soapy water lookin for leaks you might never find on your own until further damage is done. A friend had this done to his one year old trailer and found all windows leaking. I think this should be done at the factory but to my knowledge it is not. Best of luck.

RE: BACKING SUGGESTIONS

I should have known this topic was already covered a short time ago. Guess I will tell you the rest of the story and how we came to this. I am legally blind with a corrected vision of 20/400. I often put the trailer away backing up the drive and under the canopy. The first few times the neighbors all came out to watch and I got a round of aplause when completed. There are times I back in with wife's directions and times she does it depending on how much the kids frazzled her nerves. Now none of the neighbors come to watch. I miss them. LOL

BACKING SUGGESTIONS

My wife and I remember our first trailer and the stress of backing it into a spot. May we share a few things that might help someone? Use your cell phone or 2 way radio to talk to one another. Acell phone can be put on speaker and set next to the driver. After checking your width if you are sure you have enough focus only on the driver side. The other side will come along I assure you. To the spotter in the rear use terms that are helpful like " 3 more feet back" or over 1 foot. Not vague terms like "a little more" or my favorite Move over". This is frustrating and of little value. Which way? How much? Practice backing in an empty lot on a sunny day and take turns. Turns out my wife backs better than I do. Have fun with it and loosen up. This is your spouse you are working with. Happy trails.

RE: Random Newbie Questions

I am excited for you and your family. Great memories await. Take lots of pictures they will turn to gold with time. We use the strap on mirrors. You and your husband should find an empty parking lot and practice backing. Have fun with it using the parking lines to guide those back tires. My wife has become a master of backing into and out of tough spots. I check my width then watch the drivers side only. That's just me. I see alot of couples argueing as the husband backs in and the wife is doing the verbal hula dance behind the trailer. Call him on the cell phone and have him put it on speaker which he can lay beside him. Give specific info like two feet to the left or back 3 feet. Not stuff like a little more or too far. Have fun most of all. We are happy for you.

RE: Increasing mileage when towing

Tire pressure and keeping a steady speed. Any weight I shave off is barely noticable compared to the above two items. Towing we average 12-14.5 MPG Head winds hurt more than grades.

FORGET SOMETHING ?

In the 16 years my immediate family and I have been camping we have forgot to bring many things. At times over confidence is my enemy thinking I do not need a list. Below are some of the more embarassing items I forgot. And I bet I am not the only one here. What about you? 1. Boat Motor 2. My personal cloth's. Got the kids. 3. Landing gear crank 4. Water hose. I could add more. Most of these items are kept in the camper and we do make a list. What memories.

RE: ROOF VENT SCREEN REPLACEMENT ?

I found a dealer willing to special order a new screen. It is a JENSEN and got it today and installed. I was quoted $10. Then they charged me $17. O well. Now to find the cat that caused this calamity. LOL

RE: had enough

I realize new fridge is crazey expensive. However, you might want to consider figuring out why it is not working before you give up on it. Two points to consider here. 1. Having a compressor fridge will not fit properly and you will get warm air in through wall and roof vents. This will also dramatically lower resale value. 2. How will you keep things cold while driving or parking? Maybe, as other person suggested, a simple fan in the back would help. Maybe the burner needs cleaning or vent is obstructed. I had similar problem with a previous RV turned out the roof vent hole was only half cut out. Easy fix. Best of luck in whatever you decide.
