RE: Costco 6v golf cart batteries

I don't know why anyone would mess around with a starter battery for the generator. My generator will still start around 11.5 volts and you don't want to go much lower than that anyway. If you do run them to low to start, you can always start your tv long enough to get your generator started.
now you know someone :)

RE: Costco 6v golf cart batteries

I did this conversion back in '05. But we got ours from Sam's Club. Now we also have a 12v for back up and another 12v for emergency gen start.
it's the only way to go. With Led lights , we always have plenty of power.
how are you keeping your gen-start battery charged? do you have it isolated from the house batteries?
I was thinking of getting a small trickle charger to permanently wire in to keep the gen-start battery charged and wire it so that it activates when plugged into shore power, or when the genny is running.
Any time the shore power is on or the gen is running(120v),a relay closes and all the batteries are parallel. When the power(120v) drops out the relay opens and the spares are isolated. I manually flip a switch in an emergency condition. The spare batt is only used if I flip the switch to bring the spare back into the circuit.
If I leave the switch on , the battery stays in the circuit. I usually leave it off unless I need it.
