RE: old cats and rabies shots-

We were going in the opposite direction two years ago.. We are Californian's and were in Arizona for the winter. We traveled with 3 cats.. We took them to a vet in Mesa for shots so that we could travel into Canada.. We took their medical records along with the 3 kitties to the vets and were told that we were over vaccinating our them.. What?:E We've had cats all our lives and were never told we were over vaccinated them.. Anyway, the vet gave them each a Rabies shot and papers to travel to Canada.. We did not always vaccinate them for Rabies in California, as they were indoor cats, but we knew they needed a rabies shot to travel into Canada.. $330 later they had their one shot each and a paper for travel and THEN we never asked to show the papers.. Oh well, they did have their rabies shots with no affects.. Barb

RE: I still read books, the kind without batteries!

Wow, never thought of this as a "hot button" subject.. As for me, I love my Kindle and have bought some very well priced e books cheaper than most paper backs, however it will not stop me from reading a "real book"... I like both..:) Truth be told my husband bought one Kindle for both of us.. After reading my first book, I knew this was not going to work.. He would have to buy his OWN Kindle, and he did..:p He now wonders why we waited so long.. I do find my Kindle is easier to read in bed.. I can lay on my side and hold it with one hand AND turn the pages.. I love it.. Barb

RE: Whacha readin' now?

The last two books I've read were great. Killing Lincoln and one recommended here, Blue Heaven.. Blue Heaven was the second book I've read on my Kindle.. Love my Kindle Has anyone read, Now You See Her by Patterson?..This book is cheaper to buy a used paperback through Amazon, than putting it on Kindle.. Barb

RE: A Bit of a Rant

The other really annoying way to respond to a post, which is another way of saying 'why', is to mention how unimportant your point is and to say that there are far more important things to worry about! These responses are often completed with a flourish of 'Don't sweat the small stuff'! Boy do I agree with this.. Some folks are here to enjoy conversation and just to chat.. Barb

RE: Your opinion on ugly current model car front ends?

So, what's your point? In my opinion, there have been a lot of ugly cars and trucks, but it really has not affected me. I have more important issues to be concerned about. The point? I'd say conversation is the point:W Now I don't know about ugly grills, but I have to say I am not fond of those cars they call The Cube.. looks kind of like a baby shoe.:B Barb

RE: Alaskan Cruise

We did Princess Cruise Lines aboard Coral Princess last August. Booked through AAA and they did everything!!! Air fare and all. I would suggest that if you are including the land portion through Denalli you do the land first. With the land tours you are on the go for thisand it makes a busy day for you. Following with the cruise is very relaxing!!! We are thinking of it again or the Panama Canal next What a great idea. We are members of AAA. Were you happy with their service? Barb

RE: Alaskan Cruise

Thanks so much everyone for your response.. I do like the idea of cruise , train and bus tours.. We also want to keep it informal.. I don't want to take dressy clothes for dining..I also think a smaller ship would be better.. Thanks again.. Barb

Alaskan Cruise

Since we never took that rv trip to Alaska, we are thinking about taking an Alaskan cruise next summer.. Maybe one of those combination cruise, train and bus trips in Alaska. Has anyone taken such a trip and can you recommend a cruise lines and how to get started with planning such a trip? Thanks Barb

RE: Ridiculous bank fees

Nothing new. Banks have been charging to cash checks drawn on their bank to people not having an account there for over 30 years. I do not a bank that does not charge for this service. I know all the large banks, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Chase Bank all do. msmith1199 gave a good reason for these charges. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this charge. "Banks have been charging to cash checks drawn on their bank to people not having an account there for over 30 years" We retired 3 years ago after 30 in the tool business. We owned the business and I can assure you that many times over the years we had to take a check to a customers bank to get it cashed.. Usually it was because a check from that customer was returned to us as insufficient funds and we did not want to run it through our account again..We would then take the check to the customers bank.. Never ever paid a fee to cash such a check. Many years ago we had our business account with Wells Fargo.. They run another tool companies check through our account.. It bounced and they charged our account.. I took the check to the bank and they acted as dumb founded as we were.. The other tool company had a similar name but no where near similar account numbers.. Needless to say we changed banks.. As I said, we took a business check from Verizon, at their direction, to their bank....

RE: Ridiculous bank fees

I'll be surprised if anyone here would even pay a nickel to cash a check, let alone try to cash one at a bank they don't use. We went to the back that the check was written on at the direction of Verizon... It was their check and their bank. I guess I don't understand what you are saying?:h

Ridiculous bank fees

Haven't had a reason to pay extra bank fees for some time.. Today was an eye opener.. We had a refund check from Verizon coming..They called an said we could stop by the store and pick up the check...Since it was a sizable sum we drove over to pick up the check rather than have them mail it... They told us to take it to their Wells Fargo bank right up the street, which we did....Well, Wells Fargo said we would have to pay a $7 fee for cashing the check because we did not have an account with them.. I don't think so! We drove a couple of blocks away to our Chase Bank and deposited it in our account... Holy smokes, I can't believe folks would pay $7 to cash a check.:E Barb

RE: Vacuum Cleaner??

Hi Barbara I don't know about Walmart or Khols but I love my Oreck. Light weight and easy to use.. I finally decided I needed a canister for wood floors with area rugs, so I bought a Miele.. I love it as well, but I found I cannot get rid of my Miele, so I use both.. I did go to WalMart, Sears and Best Buy, but could not find one I liked as well the my Oreck.. Hope you find one you like.. Barb

RE: Miele Vacuum cleaner?

Wow I went in the opposite direction, we had an uprite Oreck and loved it....But after moving from our rv back into a house with 16 sq feet of wood floors, I wanted a canister vac.. I too researched the different models and decided on a Miele. A little pricy but it's great for bare floors, furniture, carpets and getting under and around furniture.. Something my uprite could not do.. Barb

Why are some topics closed?

Guess I missed something. I checked out "food for thought" and could not understand why it was closed. Nothing objectionable that I could see.. I thought this was suppose to be an "around the campfire" conversation site. Why are so many things not allowed to be talked about here? Barb

RE: Chrysler quality & customer satisfaction

My friend bought a new Chrysler 300 for his wife, 3 years later sold it for less than half of what he paid for it...:( :h Must have needed cash badly to make such a bad deal. My 2006 Chrysler 300C has just been a superb vehicle. And its still worth about 3/4 of what I paid for it, counting the clean retail price. No repairs ever, and great performance. I never put too much stock in these consumer type reports on vehicles because there are just so many variables in what each particular person likes or dislikes about any given vehicle. As far as customer satisfaction, the Dodge/Chrysler dealers I have dealt with since owning the vehicle have been excellent. I too love my 2006 Chrysler 300c . Bought it over a year ago. It had only 11,000 miles and looked like new. Still does. It drives beautifully. We get more admiring comments on it than I did on my Lexus.. Barb

Am I the only one that liked the Here weego Bud Lite dog commercial? I also liked the Volkswagon fat dog commercial as well as the Doritos dog burying the cat collar.. Guess I am parcial to dogs..:) Did think the bungie baby was pretty cute... Barb

RE: Eliminating State Income Tax

Some years ago, we met some folks from San Antonio while attending an rv rally.. We compared home values and property taxes with theirs. Our homes value was more than twice that of the folks from Texas home was, yet we paid considerable less in Property taxes... Their general cost of living was less in Texas than ours though..There's always a trade off I guess.. We love parts of Texas (still so) and considered moving there.. In the end we could not give up our weather here in SoCal..:C Barb

RE: JC Penney ad on TV is .....

Looks like we're all echoing one another on our likes and dislikes. I also dislike that latest piggy one and really couldn't remember what the heck they're advertising. JCP has a horrible commercial. It's not just our age because my dd and her friends (27ish) think it's horrible too. I did get an interesting email from JCP, it was a coupon I had to virtually cut around 78 times to get a handbag 43 or 83% off. 78 times. I. Did. Not. Do. It. Then hit continue and they had some other coupon, but it said sold out? CTS, I just want to comment on your cancelling your card. You may or may not need credit but they say never cancel your cards, just cut them up, because it can hurt your credit. I just wanted to throw this in, in case someone didn't know. I too will echo everyone's thoughts on the awful Penny's commercial. Also dislike the pig commercial.Don't know what he's wee weeing about anyway. Thought it was funny the first or second time around now just plain annoying. About closing credit cards. I too thought that closing accounts can hurt your credit score, however before we went full time rving 4 years ago we closed 3 store credit cards and one Visa and kept only one Visa and one MC. It did not hurt our credit score at all. We had a pretty good score then and still do. Saw no reason to keep all those accounts open... Barb
