RE: over heated & Broke down, update now in Flagstaff

I've been beating myself up over this
I think the biggest part of the damage was done Because I forced it to continue on to the next off ramp, instead of immediately pulling over, cooling down and getting the tow while on the side of the road.
my own stubbornness did this to me

RE: over heated & Broke down, update now in Flagstaff

Could this be something not so bad like a broken timing chain? There would be compression on some cylinders. But may not explain the cooling tank leak or black smoke.
I don't know about this diesel
but with a gas ohv engine a broken timing chain would mean an open valve and a piston with a Hole in it
is This thing a flat head side valve where that can't happen?

RE: over heated & Broke down, update now in Flagstaff

sorry I couldn't visit, I'm not a member but thanks anyway
Here is a reference to a guy who went through a process similar to yours. He contributes to the Arctic Fox site I visit. I believe he decided on a rebuilt Jasper engine. While his may not have failed in the way yours did he was away from home and went through a similar decision process.
I hope this helps.

RE: over heated & Broke down, update now in Flagstaff

what fly or drive back to LA and compound the cost!!! there is no place to go unless we impose upon friends
as I told Scott on the phone we live in this RV, this is home. !! we are full timers
diagnosis such as it is, 1 Hr of shop labor time taxes etc. $119.63
the diesel guy listen to it turn over and said there was no compression
said he would need to open it up to really determine the extent of damage
apparently that didn't fly in the office
the just wanted to replace it,
ers recommended and towed me to the wrong place so now they are going to tow me to the right place
a couple extra days of delay
make the best of it, live & learn

RE: over heated & Broke down, update now in Flagstaff

the bad news
affinity wants almost 14grand to replace the engine with a remanufactured one
the good news is after verifing that afinity would only replace this engine Not repair this one, my progressive ERS is going to have us towed to Northern AZ diesel where we should have been taken the first time
yes it was in the posted link as possibles
but there was no firm recommendations until after we had been towed
I'm just glad Scott over at Northern said they can rebuild this one

RE: Color Code and Solar Install

I used red and black
for panels and controller
on the welding cable between battery banks I used red marking tape for the positives
on my MH both oem battery wires are black, some do have red terminals or markings on them
I am stuck with white & black wires on the light fixtures
rv mfg should have switched to red/black for DC power yrs ago
the fact they did not switch is plain stupid

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

nothing will substitute for rejetting the carbs
some day I'm going to rejet my scooter so it runs better at higher altitude
and I mean 5000-6000 ft not higher
the dang thing is jetted for sea level
think I will rejet for 2500-3000 ft
try to hit a compromise point

RE: 12 volt connection for a fridge.

modern absorption fridges uses power for the LP gas valve, and controls plus you have other parasitic loads
you need either more batteries and some solar
or
a 30 yr old fridge design with out all the electronics
the 12vdc vent fans for the fridge are eating most of the power
four batteries might/maybe last thru that time period

RE: Solar system with existing battery separator?

yes you can connect it the way out want
my personal preference would be to wire directly to the batteries involved
what you want to do will work

engine is a 5.9L 6BT , not ISB
he says sounds like free wheeling no compression, will need to open it up

RE: Help!! Safari with a 7.2L Cat

my 1995 Safari
has a cummins 230hp Turbo
I was sure my paperwork says it a 5.9 ISB, I know its OEM from 95
it has not been replaced Yet
so if the ISB came out in 98, what do I have?

RE: T-mobile announces new No contract data plans

voice? or data
the announcement is about new? data plans
no contract data, not voice
I bought my TMobile sim card on Ebay, and pay by the month no contract with T Mobile for a couple months now. I must be missing something. I also stick in an H2o sim card in my unlocked phone, and use their network which really uses ATT's network. I've been trying all kinds combinations trying to find something I like. I've been sticking with T Mobile because it uses my home WIFI when my signal bars disappear, because I'm out in the sticks where I live.

RE: MPPT Controller Max OCV Cloud Fringing Tolerance

my 2000e info lists a number of different problems and the reasons
but does not discuss controller failure
it does list over current protection
and over heat protection
doesn't say what would happen in case of a component failure
I think the likely hood of failure matches the odds of wining the lotto
since the over current limiting and over heat shut down will prevent damage to the unit
I'm only making an educated guess, but most likely if the voc was exceeded and the MPPT controller failed I think it would be aa total shut down with no power to the batteries
I think this would be a mfg specific question If you can get the model # and call them

T-mobile announces new No contract data plans

Thanks to our growing array of gadgets with cellular capabilities, our need for data grows by the day. However, signing up for a data plan often involves committing to as much as two years with a specific carrier, which doesn't suit everyone. Wireless carrier T-Mobile this week announced the addition of contract-free data-only passes to its portfolio of plans.
T-Mobile's no contract mobile broadband service passes debuted this weekend and will start at $15 for a one-week 300MB pass. The rest of the options are monthly passes that range in price from $25 (for 1.5GB) to $50 (for 5GB). The passes are available for customers boasting the Sonic 4G or T-Mobile 4G mobile hotspots as well as the Rocket 3.0 data stick. The Galaxy Tab 10.1, 7,0 Plus and SpringBoard are also covered.

RE: MPPT Controller Max OCV Cloud Fringing Tolerance

IIRC
the instructions for both the blue sky and the Xantrex
specify connecting the batteries before connecting the solar panels
is this to avoid possible to high voc across the input or is there some other reason?
the controller circuits use so little power as to effectively constitute an open circuit when there are no batteries on line, there is nothing there to accept the power being produced so the panels are at full voltage potential
if this full potential is higher than the controllers rating, you can expect a problem to happen
there are lots of factors, time of year, flat or tilted, etc...
But being connected to a controller does not always mean a connected loaded circuit
voc can certainly happen and it better be under the safe value of the controller
No Load condition...the controller will be subject to full open circuit panel voltage across its inputOk. Where I have a problem is that the classical definition says 'not connected to any circuit' not 'connected but there's no load.'
thanks.
