RE: Good weekend but had a blow out.

I picked up a 2nd wheel from eBay for $50 once I figured out my wheel size and bolt pattern.

RE: BLM fire restrictions read if you are going to the desert

take a bucket from home depot with you, fill it with your grey water, and you're good to go! not a big deal.
I agree with this common sense approach...but, that would be considered illegal dumping of waste water and would result in a ticket as well.

RE: Good weekend but had a blow out.

200 miles on 5 tires? Because they were stressed with more weight than they should have been and if you can swing it I'd suggest replacing all of them with 6 new tires and saving two of them for spares.

RE: Filters for Ford diesel 6.0

anyways while you are reading this, how heavy of a trailer do you think I can tow?............just kidding!
With OEM filters...up to 40k lbs or so but with anything other than OEM you better keep it at 20k lbs.;)

RE: On the Road Flat Change Question

Thanks guys. I think a big 20 ton bottle jack would be the hot ticket for situations when AAA is a few hours away or when I'm off road in the middle of the desert. The price is right @ $40 for one from HF and the weight is only 25 lbs. I'll look into the air over jack too as I do have an on board air setup.

On the Road Flat Change Question

About a year ago I had my first on the road blow out and was able to roll right into the truck scales to change it. Luckily, and for the first time ever, I had my big, 75 lb., 3 1/2 ton floor jack, air compressor and impact wrench with me and made short work of the tire change.
I've been considering buying one of Harbor Freight's aluminum floor jacks as I hate hauling the big heavy jack around. They come in three different sizes/ratings, 1.5 ton for $80 (30 lbs), 2 ton for $160 (43 lbs.) and 3 ton for $200 (55 lbs.) but I'm not entirely sure any of them (being aluminum) would cut it for my fully loaded 5er.
What do you guys use or take with you on the road for situations like this?

RE: Landing Gear Troubleshooting

The landing gear on my WW was made by Venture Mfg. as mapguy said. Here's a couple of links to a parts breakdown from both Venture and Atwood that helped me.

Too bad about the truck. How many miles did you get out of it? My 04 Powerjoke has been giving me fits for a while now too but I just don't want ot get into a new payment although if I do I'll be changing brands for sure.

RE: Upgrade Fuel Pump, Anyone Done This ??

The biggest problem will be the 3/8" draw from the tank. I upgraded to 1/2" fitting, line and Fram High Flow filter to help it out, but still the limits are the size of the tank outlets.
Not to hijack the original post but you mentioned a filter. Although I've never really climbed around under my trailer to look at the set up, I ask, is there a filter from the factory on these or did most add an aftermarket set up and if so where and how?

RE: need help.

The roof deck is oriented strand board (OSB) and it expands like like a sponge when it gets wet so I'm guessing it's been wet or there's no support between the joints and there's deflection or warping at the joint but that's just a guess, or two.

Ratcheting tie downs will secure the unit just as well if not better IMHO.

RE: E Track for dirt bike tie downs

For looks yes but for durability I'd replace it with real diamond plate 1/8" minimum.

RE: need help.

Try Empire RV in Riverside CA. If they can't get the cap itself they can possibly get the material and you could make a new one yourself.

RE: Front end Water Damage

DuneMe,
I just repaired/rebuilt the rear roof and cap of my Warrior and I'm sure construction of the front cap is very similar.
Once you remove the top and side/vertical aluminum mouldings and caulking, the cap is stapled on along the edges. The staples are probably very rusty and not holding much so they should pullout fairly easily. The fiberglass skin is only about 1/16" thick and it's backed a 1/4" luan plywood that's glued directly to the fiberglass skin. The radius parts of the cap are backed with a very thick and heavy duty corrugated cardboard type material which allows the bends.
On my rear cap I was able to salvage the luan and re-attach it to the fiberglass with 3M spray adhesive. I replaced the damaged cardboard material with a layer of new Home Depot packing box cardboard using the same adhesive. With that much water in there it may be easier to replace the luan as well rather than waiting for it to dry out. You'll probably also encounter water damaged or dry rotted framing that'll need to be replaced as well.
As for the rubber roof, its a felt back material that is stapled along the edges under the aluminum strips and is also glued down with a contact like adhesive to the deck. To peel it back, take a spray bottle filled with lacquer thinner or acetone and while peeling spray the felt to release the glue
An expensive option to repairing the cap is to replace it with a new updated ABS cap from Warrior Lifestyles or Empire RV but it'll still be a bit of work to do so.

RE: E Track for dirt bike tie downs

Aluminum frame or not the plywood wall coverings are usually only 1/8" vinyl covered luan plywood. Too much tension on the tie downs between the studs will definitely put that small tire patch right through the wall. Personally, I'd remove the decorative aluminum foil diamond plate and add a layer of 5/16" (minimum) plywood behind the diamond plate.

RE: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???

Put the new 17.5 inch wheels and Goodyear G114 tires on. No worry anymore for being close to max load of the tire. Now I just need to get rid of the 16 in wheels and tires!
PM sent!

RE: need help.

I just finished repairing two leaks and replacing water damaged OSB roofing underlayment, in each rear corner of my WW. To do so I had to remove the rear cap. While I'm not sure what is involved with delamination within the fiberglass or gel coat I would say it's very similar to what my rear cap looked like when I removed it. The soft spots in the roof are what got my attention as there was no evidence of delamination visually from the outside.
The exterior fiberglass skin is very thin, about 1/16" and the rest of the cap was comprised of another layer of 3/16' thick luan (read - cheap ass plywood). Where the cap was radiused at the top, the luan was replaced with a very heavy corrugated cardboard like material. The water damage to my cap pretty much destroyed the cardboard and the fiberglass outer skin had delaminated from the luan. It was still a little moist between layers and I was able to let it dry overnight. I then got a can of heavy duty aerosol, 3M spray adhesive and re-coated both layers and glued it all back together. The damaged cardboard material was then replaced with nice new layer of Home Depot packing box cardboard and it all went back together very nicely.
While I would have preferred to replace the rear cap with an updated ABS WW cap the old one was easily repaired therby saving me about $500 to spend on something else. I hope this info helps so you can easily make your repairs.

RE: What did you do to your Toy Hauler today???

Removed the rear cap this past weekend to repair the dry rotted roof corners and related framing. The repairs were fairly quick and straight forward but time consuming. I'm almost done putting it all back together now and just need to re-caulk everything and then Eternabond everything as well.
However, while working on the roof I lost my balance and put my hand through one of the roof vents that was sun baked and brittle so I replaced all four of them while I was up there.
