RE: "Through The Roof" roof sealant.

Just in case you miss this little comment on their website: "Can I use Through the Roof on my camper/RV? Through the Roof is highly recommended for most surfaces on RV's/ Campers. However, it can be risky to use on rubber roof membranes, typically found on RV's. Although it will adhere well, it can ripple or warp the rubber membranes. Cosmetically, it does not look good, but the performance of Through the Roof remains the same. Some RV's / Campers do have polyethylene and polypropylene materials which do not work well with Through the Roof.

RE: I need advice on Propane Bottles

Our Costco has new 20#'s...great price. ust make sure that who ever fills them for the first time, purges them. The new ones from Costco say right on the tank label that they are pre-purged at the factory and don't need to be purged on the first fill. Great idea!

RE: Driving north thru Banf park

Thanks guys for all the replys! I think we will do it. any reccomendations on camp areas would be great. Power not necessary. Just fairly easy to get in and out of. I often just try to pull off the road if there is lots of room. Is there a way to post to the same post or do you do it this way with a new post. thanks again. Keep in mind that you cannot spend the night in anywhere but a campground throughout the National Parks. Boondocking at the side of the road is not allowed.

RE: Canadian RV'er murdered in Mexico (a lesson in sarcasm)

Many visitors to Mexico are Mexican-American immigrants and far more likely to be involved with the wrong sort of people there, or their families are. So you really have to eliminate most Hispanic victims from the stats as well. What a ridiculous, outrageous statement! You should hang your head in shame!

RE: banff and calgary

Heading up to Banff area, need some suggestions on must see and do things. So far we will be going to the stampede one day, doing the gondola ride in Banff and probably the hot springs too. Thinking of driving up abit into on the icefields. What do we do while driivng the icefields? Are there places to get out and sightsee or areas to do some small hikes? Also want to go to Lake Louise but really don't know what to do there? Any suggestions? where are some areas for good hiking, have kids with us so long hike are probably not going to happen? Any awesome places to eat? thanks Jennifer So far there are some good suggestions. A couple questions that may help us to provide better info for you: 1. How much time do you have to spend here once you get to Alberta? 2. How many kids and how old are they? 3. What type of RV are you using and what length? 4. Where are you planning to cross the border into Canada? I live in Calgary and have traveled, hiked, backpacked and camped in the mountain parks for many years.

RE: ICBC rebates for BC Residents

Anyone from anywhere else in Canada where it is not government insurance get rebates from their insurance companies? From Ontario. Its been 4 years since we have been to Mexico but have been there 8 or 9 times. The day I crossed into Mexico I would phone my Insurance Co. and tell them what I was doing and the same on the way back. I have my payments spread over 12 months and would get a rebate for the time spent in Mexico. The rebate usually came close to the cost of Mexico insurance. Scorp Same here in Alberta. I just call my Insurance Co and tell them when I'm crossing into Mexico and when I'm coming back. They always rebate me for the days I've been in Mexico. Maybe I'm wrong but I've always assumed this to be the case everywhere.

RE: Traveling through Canada

Where are you buying gas that you have to put in zip code if using credit card? I always use my credit card for gas when traveling and have never had this happen. Everywhere everytime. Maybe its just me. :) Same for me. And I think I've tried every trick in the book to get around not having a US Zip code to enter and never found any that worked. :(

RE: Traveling through Canada

My BMO Mastercard gives a pretty decent exchange rate and does not charge any transaction fee. I always use it for traveling through the US. Like almost every Visa and Mastercard, BMO charges a 2 1/2% premium over and above the regular exchange rate on all its foreign transactions. Link to BMO M/C My bank, RBC, also charges a similar rate now on all my debit card transactions, so I would imagine the other banks do too! Just because you do not see a 'Fee' on your statement does not mean that they don't charge one! As others have said , it is only polite to use the currency of the country you are visiting. Can you imagine a load of tourists coming ashore from a cruise ship in a US port and trying to use their Euros in the local stores! Whoops!! You are correct....they add a 2.5% premium. I had never noticed that before.:o Re your cruise ship comment. Actually I've seen that happen quite often in Mexico. I once watched a woman from a cruise ship in Puerto Vallarta Mexico insisting on paying for a 30 peso item (under $3) with a $50 US bill and demanding that she get her change in US dollars.

RE: Traveling through Canada

When traveling through Canada should you take cash and convert to Canadian money or just use your credit card. I recommend that when you are visiting someone or visiting another country, it is alway better to be polite. Why not have the currency of the country with you? Canadians travelling in the USA and Americans travelling in Canada have the proper currency with you and enjoy your trip. For sure!!! Where are you buying gas that you have to put in zip code if using credit card? I always use my credit card for gas when traveling and have never had this happen. Strange. I have almost never found a station that does NOT require the input of a ZIP code. It's really a major PITA for Cdns traveling through the US. the other option is to get a CDN$ credit card through your bank to save transaction fees. I have a US$ credit card that I use in the US to save transaction and other fees. It bills me in US$ and all transactions are in US$. It is very efficient. My BMO Mastercard gives a pretty decent exchange rate and does not charge any transaction fee. I always use it for traveling through the US.

RE: Driving with air brake endorsement in Mexico

Here is the wording from our Insurance policy: In no event shall this insurance cover: A whole list follows this statement and then it states (h)Damages sustained or caused by insured vehicles while being driven by by a person lacking a driver's license issued by the proper legal authorities. Nothing about any DL being for any class of vehicle. As an aside I would bet that most if not all of the Mexican truck drivers who do not use Federal highways ( dump trucks with air brakes) have just a basic car DL. I also doubt that they are breaking any laws by doing this. Moisheh OK, so if I have a BC license that limits me to driving a Limited Speed Motorcycle (moped) in Canada, you think I can drive an 18 wheeler doble semiremolque in Mexico and my insurer will pay a claim when I have an accident???? All those who feel that they can go ahead and drive a vehicle in Mexico that their DL in Canada specifically prohibits, please do so. If you have an accident, you can always say "But, but....I read on the internet a posting by Moisheh that said "Go right ahead". I'm sure your insurer will immediately see he has no option but to yield to this greater intelligence and pay out the claim. Any PRINTED OUT amendments or endorsements that the issuing agency places on the driver license such as corrective lenses, or driving at night restrictions also apply in Mexico. I went over this point-by-point with a PFP sargento about five years ago. Yup, and that would include not being able to drive an airbrake equipped vehicle unless you have the appropriate endorsement, but Moisheh says "No way" so that can't be true. By his rationalization, I should be able to fly one of the new Boeing 787 Dreamliners because my DL doesn't say I can't. I guess you just don't get it, so I give up.

RE: Driving with air brake endorsement in Mexico

Having dealt with Mexican insurers there is no way that they would even ask you about any endorsements. So unless they are psychic how would they know that an air brake endorsement even exists. If highway patrols in the USA often do not know about the Canadian endorsement how would a Mexican insurer be aware??? Let's paint a scenario: Are you saying this is how it would happen?: " I am Senor Gonzales your adjuster. May I see your license? Hmm I see you do not have an air brake endorsement. I am sorry your insurance is void!" Ya sure!! Moisheh And if you think a multi-billion dollar insurance company is going to pay out a claim (possibly in the thousands of dollars, with injury or deaths involved) without checking beyond your Sr Gonzales adjuster's brief review, to see that the driver was legally entitled to operate the vehicle, you are dreaming! Your comments that this would not happen because you are in Mexico are demeaning to Mexico and its people.

RE: Driving with air brake endorsement in Mexico

The air brake endorsment only apllies to canada, unless the mexican inshurance also states, that they need to have a license with an air endorsment. Navegator Again, totally untrue. Your insurance policy requires you to have a valid license for the vehicle you are driving. If your Cdn license does not allow you to drive a particular vehicle (airbrakes, ambulance, schoolbus etc) then you cannot drive such a vehicle ANYWHERE. Your license is not valid PERIOD and you can bet your bottom dollar the insurer will use this to void your claim.

RE: Driving with air brake endorsement in Mexico

My point was who would even know you need an air brake endorsement? Not the adjuster or any Federal or State highway cop in Mexico. Much ado about nothing. If one sweats every little thing in Mexico you are in the wrong country. I just looked at my DL. On the back is printed the size of vehicle I can drive and the # of axles. It also states I have an air brake endorsenment. It also states I need corrective lenses. My wife'e license is just BLANK in this area other than the corrective lenses.. Like I said how would anyone know you need somthing special to drive that vehicle! Moisheh This has NOTHING to do with sweating things in Mexico, nor does it have anything to do with any Federal or State highway cop. Your license is valid for operating an airbrake equipped vehicle.....your wife's is not. If she is operating an airbrake equipped vehicle and has an accident, your insurance will be VOID. The same applies to the OP and your advice to her is extremely poor. And if you think for a single moment that your insurer won't find out, you need to give your head a shake. Insurance companies will find ANY possible excuse to avoid paying out a claim.

RE: Driving with air brake endorsement in Mexico

I cannot believe this thread is continuing. This is Mexico. Half or more of the drivers do not even have a license! There is nothing in your insurance policy that says you have to have a special license. Air Brake endorsments are a Canadian thing. IF an adjuster were to ask for your licnese he would not have a clue about all the codes. Even US Highway Patrols look at Canadian licenses as if they were printed in Swahili! If you are confident driving the rig then do so. Asking your insurance company would be an exercise in futility. If they speak English (doubtfull) then the easiest answers would be : Mande? Don't know or I will call you back. Your agent cannot give you a definitive answer. You would have to call the underwiter. Moisheh I wouldn't be so sure about that! All insurance policies require you to have a VALID driver's license. Your Cdn driver's license is NOT valid to drive an airbrake equipped vehicle without the appropriate endorsement. Just because it is Mexico doesn't mean the insurance company is any less capable and willing to declare your insurance void because you did not comply with the terms of their policy.

RE: TIP refund

As of sometime in June of this year (2012) Mexico requires a deposit of $400, $300, or $200, depending upon the year of your pickup or car, and maybe some other vehicles. The deposit is in US $ and may be paid in cash or credit card. There was great knashing of teeth and much sweating going on on this and other forums about whether the deposit would be returned in a timly manner. The deposit is NOT required on RVs. The deposit is in addition to the fee for the TIP. Stan, I think you mean it came into effect as of LAST year (2011).

RE: 8 Cents p/gal ? Central and South American Fuel Prices

Like Michael Crichton found with diamonds. There is a vast conspiracy in place to keep the price supported. If it were made public knowledge how many hundreds of TONS of raw diamonds in the 1/4 - 1 carat size are being stored it would collapse the market. Back in the early nineties I watched an interview with the most famous petrol-geologist the USSR has ever produced. The man referred to carefully laid out charts and maps and then launched into a tirade about conspiracies, collusion, graft and greed. "At this time there is definitely between 1.5 and 1.8 quadrillion barrels of recoverable crude in Siberia, the Arctic regions of Siberia, and north America. It would not surprise me to hear of an equally large reserve of not economically feasible to recover at this time crude oil under ice in Greenland. "They got me pinched way the hell back!" was the complaint of one oil well tycoon from the front porch of his Texas home. They year was 1972 and refiners were hooting and blowing that they could not find enough crude. The man took me on a guided tour. The estimated recoverable oil reserves in the top 100 oil-producing countries in the world total 1,392,461,050,000 barrels. For ease of comprehending such a number, that would be 1.392 trillion barrels. You are actually suggesting that Siberia, the Arctic regions of Siberia, and north America alone have reserves of 1,800,000,000,000,000 barrels???? That would be 1,800 trillion barrels, or 1,293 times the combined total of the rest of the world! I think, maybe, you might want to lay off whatever you've been smoking!

RE: 8 Cents p/gal ? Central and South American Fuel Prices

Canada produces more oil than it uses but for some reason a gallon of gas produced in Alberta is cheaper in Texas than it is in Calgary. Some countries in this position (like Venezuela) take care of their own citizens needs at a much reduced price (after all it is them who own the resources) before selling the excess off at world price. Not Canada. Perhaps you have never heard of the National Energy Program of 1980, which created a reduced domestic price for oil???? If you need any details, just ask any Albertan. It has been estimated by a number of different scholars that Alberta lost between $50 billion and $100 billion because of the NEP,and that the cost to the average Albertan was about $18,000. Hopefully, no Canadian Government would EVER consider such a program again.

RE: Alamos RV Parks...For Larger Rigs This Year!

You could check the Bell's site for info. Alamos RV Parks Several years ago we stopped there at Dolisa RV Park. The park itself was OK, but the owner/manager was, without a doubt, the meanest, miserable psycho I have ever had the misfortune of meeting! I would steer a wide path around this place!

RE: Bow Valley Camping

This site here doesn't list Boulton as having power: Reserve Alberta The site you mention DOES show Boulton as having 35 electric/water sites. If you can't navigate through their simple campsite selection and reservation service, maybe you need to have someone else do it for you.
