RE: RVQ 2000 outside grill

Take a look at THIS.
I had a Jayco that came with one of these. The white strip is screwed to the trailer and the grill just hooks on it and hangs with the bottom 'legs' resting against the trailer wall.
Mine supported it pretty well.
However the RVQ itelf was pretty useless. Would blow out even in a very light wind and never got very hot. I bought a Weber BabyQ instead. Like night and day. My old RVQ and bracket have been in the garage for about 5 years now. Must get round to throwing it out! :B

RE: Driving to Grand Lake, CO from KC

Has anyone ever driven I29 to I80 from Kansas City to Colorado instead of taking I70 across Kansas? Are there pros and cons to either route? We are heading there in July, first RV trip to CO, always different in a car. Are there steep grades that we should know about entering from one side vs the other? Any advice would be appreciated.
The I-29/I-80 route is about 825 miles. The I-70 route is about 700 miles. Having driven both I would go for I-70, save yourself a bunch of gas/diesel! Both routes can be pretty boring, with long stretches of prairie, so look up places to see along the way - there are plenty which can alleviate that boredom! :)
As for steep grades both routes converge in Denver and all your grades are west of there on I-70. You will have to go over Berthoud Pass after leaving I-70. It has been widened and upgraded over the last few years so, while very twisty, is not a big problem. The other grades you have to deal with are Floyd Hill on I-70 west of Denver.
Towed I-70 many times and so long as you take it easy should be no problem. :)
Have a great trip

RE: Awning Sun Screen

This is the one we have. It's worked awesome for us so far. You can see through it and it still shades the sun and keeps the temps down.Patty O Shade
How does that attach to canopy?
Thanks,
Markiemark
I have a Patty-OShade too. They have a strip at the top which you insert into, and slide along, one of the open slots that canopy rollers have. Pretty simple and works well.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Did you check to see where they were made??
I found this elsewhere on the forum:
"For the record, and this came straight from Goodyear, the G614 RST is not made in China; they are made in Topeka, KS. "

RE: Good ol Camping World!

Tires Plus or Discount Tires, you can't go wrong with them.
Absolutely not! - Yesterday I ordered 4 Maxxis from Discount Tire for my fiver.
They called me today and told me that I could get a better deal with a better tire called Carlisle. :E
Nuff said!!! I told them I wouldn't put a Carlisle tire on my wheelbarrow......
I should have learned my lesson with them last year when I ordered three Maxxis for my boat trailer (one was a spare). They put the tires on, and when I had paid and was about to pull out of the lot, I stopped to check the tire pressures and noticed that they weren't Maxxis at all - some cheapo tire I had never heard of. The air was blue when I walked back in! Got the right tires the following day. While their prices are always pretty reasonable, you have to watch them very carefully.
Be very, very careful with Discount Tire! :(
...edited due to my bad spellcheck! :)

RE: Biggest New 5er behind my '06 Dodge 2500?

Your current fiver probably puts you well over the GVWR for that truck. Getting a bigger fiver would not be an option I would entertain!
I have pretty much the same truck as you and I wouldn't even consider a trailer that big.

Second vote for Navaho State Park. Lovely area, and not far from Mesa Verde.

RE: Opinions, please, on this 5er

I saw a previous post of yours that says you have a Ram 2500 with gas engine.
Looking at that 5er, your pin weight would be way over your capacity for that truck. If you want that 5er it looks like a new truck is in order too! :(

RE: When do you decide to level left to right??

R to L is the first thing to be corrected. While we are still hooked up we check the level to see if we need to lay a block or two down to have her sitting level. So we back her in to the exact spot we want the trailer, then ck for r/l level, if needed, pull forward just enough to lay blocks needed, then back her up and ck she is right. Then we put in chocks and unhook
This.

RE: stabilizers for 35 foot fifth wheel

In my opinion JT's are the best. Combined with Rotochoks my 5er is rock solid.
Two friends liked mine so much they now have the same setup on their 5ers too.
Of course everyone likes what they have, the best. So it is all pretty much up to you!

RE: Shopping for a tech gadget?

You won't find one in my home.
Nor mine - PC's, Blackberry, Android tabled and Droid phone, yes. Can't stand Apple products - I like more flexibility.

RE: Chatfield State Park, Littleton,Co

Loop C is electric only. Loops A and D are FHU, as is half of Loop B. Loop B tends to be the most open (least shade), but some have views of the lake. Loop D is the newest loop, and is the most popular overall. It also has the longest sites in the Park and, according to Reserve America, nearly all the sites in the loop (except 160, 161, 169, 175 and 180) can accommodate a 40 footer.
My bad - typo! Meant to put loop D and I put C! :)

RE: Black Hills area

Rafter J is the nicest campground in all of the Hills. Centrally located just south of Hill City.
They have several differnt areas, each with it's own feel. You probably want to try the "Island".
http://www.rafterj.com/
I second Rafter J. Stayed there in 2010.
I double recommend this one too. Stayed there last year - at 'The Island' and it was wonderful.

RE: Chatfield State Park, Littleton,Co

We camp there several times a year. Pretty much all the sites are fine for a 40ft Class A. Most, but not all, are Full Hookups.
We normally notice that most of the larger Class A's tend to go in Loop C. Those are all FHU and there aren't really any bad sites in that loop. :)

RE: Looking at my first 5'ver

Yes, you should never tow with a truck over 3 years old.
:R
Please explain the thought process behind that statement. Trucking companies would go bankrupt, if they had to buy new trucks every three years.
The thought process behind his statement was sarcasm - at a previous posters post! :S

RE: honda companion vs 2000i

I use 2 Honda2000i with the parallel kit. I like the flexibility. If I need both for A/C or other heavy load I take both. If we go where we won't need A/C I take only one.
At our home the power was off for several days recently. The Honda 2000is worked perfectly to provide power for lights and refrig tv's...etc. I just ran extension cords into each room where power was needed. I ran them for two straight days and until 11PM at night plus a partial 3rd day. We used about 4 gallons of gas.
Like others have said do some internet shopping and negotiating. you should be able to get one for under $1000 and two for around $1800. I paid $1900 5 years ago for the 2 and that included the parallel kit plus covers for both.
Wow - it's like looking in a mirror. Your post is exactly what I have and what I do. :)

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

BUMP!
Whew!--I think I said what many other readers wanted to say long ago...
This is just to let you know, you weren't speaking for me. Somebody on here MAY have had a 'handy hint or gadget' to solve Bertnspike's problem. In addition there may have been a few others that could use the info too.
You could have said that to the poster in a private message instead of rudely blasting them publicly. Just sayin'...
WHEW...got that off my chest!
I totally agree with Jeanne M!
