RE: For the mod minded folks.....kids RZR mods.

Two more days and counting for all the fun! Won't be able to report till we get back Memorial Day though. Cut the front sway bar off today. Not needed now.

RE: For the mod minded folks.....kids RZR mods.

The spring rates on the DS springs were way weak, hence the TRX spring. RZR springs are 170lbs and the TRX springs are 160-200. Good match. The LTR springs are a bit stiffer than stock too. Valving may need changed in the future, but words from a professional shock builder says they should be fine as is.
And the mallet is the best tool!

For the mod minded folks.....kids RZR mods.

Take one standard 50" RZR.....put Can Am DS450xmx front shocks with TRX700XX front springs on the rear of the RZR and Suzuki LTR450 shocks on the front of the RZR and what do you get?
You get full adjustability. Preload, rebound and in the case of the DS shocks, you get low and high speed compression. Not to mention progressive front springs and 1" of extra clearance without any bind.
Cost.....$280 and a few hours of beer time.

The hardest thing will be to stay under your rear axle limit. The Suburbans are rear end heavy.

RE: Ford F-350 6.7L Dually 4x4 or Chevy 3500 LTZ 6.6 L

I am one of the lucky ones who gets to own a few different diesels at the same time. Currently I have an 2011 ford f350 drw and a 2011 gmc 2500.
There are personal pro's and cons for both truck. But we will stick with the positives
Ford has a nice roomy cab. Good storage under the seats, 4 cup holders in the front (if you get the center console), transmission shift points and feel are spot on. Hp is great for towing. Suspension feels much more capable
Gmc
Smooth ride, good power , the dash and compartment is all with in arms reach, engine compartment actually has some elbow room.
Here is the honestly when it comes time to hook up to the trailer. I look for my ford keys.
You look for the Ford keys because it's a 3500 DRW vs. a 2500 with only one set back there. Has little to do with brand I think.

RE: Durango from Missouri......

Diesel engines do not have engine braking like gas vehicles. Hence exhaust brakes, jake brakes and in your case transmission grade braking. Go slow on the downhill and use tow haul with light brake usage and you will be perfectly fine.
Beautiful area up here. And the million dollar highway between Silverton and Ouray is interesting. No guardrails in steep spots and some real sharp switchbacks. But they take big rigs through there. I'd drive it for fun. :)

RE: New to Toy Haulers advice needed

I would suggest you also look at Montana fivers. I own one and am prejudiced towards them but believe me, you will get a quality fiver. Take a look and see what you can find. You will be pleased. Mine has all the amenities I could want. The newer 2013's have the level up system you are wanting. I got 38% off of MSRP when buying mine for about $60,000. new. Montana has a very good reputation and is the best selling trailer for over 10 years running!
Look online at the RV Station in Nacadoches, Texas where I got mine. They have internet deals and will definitely deal with you. They are very laid back and want you to be happy with your fiver.
I hope this helps.
They make toyhaulers now????:h
They do make one....

Very, very few fiver toy haulers light enough for that truck.

RE: 1500 hd real world towing

Your 8200# tow rating is the MAXIMUM with a 150# driver in the truck. Anything or anyone else must be subtracted from that rating.
If you carry any passengers or "stuff" in the truck you will likely be maxed out with an empty trailer.
Your truck is only a heavy duty 1/2 ton after all.
Exactly! Too much trailer for that truck. Rating of 8200lbs and your wanting to tow nearly 11k? Toy haulers are very heavy on the pin when loaded with water and toys.....expect 1500lbs. To much for any 1500(even an HD) in my book.

RE: Just drove the new F350 home

Boy that was a surprise, how different it behaves over our F150 which we traded in. Doing a U-turn was a learning experience in it itself. It's a F350 SRW 6.7L Lariat FWD. It's also odd looking down on other pickups...heh. I notice that the death wish teenie car drivers get very nervous seeing the bottom of the radiator in the rear view. The start peddling a lot faster....heh.
If anyone is using the Motorcraft PM22a where are you getting it, other than the Ford dealer. I spent a looong time waiting in the parts shop before being told that they were out. Amazon doesn't seem to have it, nor any of the auto parts places that I checked on line.
Incidentally they did not have me sign that Ford diesel bulletin. We got the Ford installed tonneau cover and it turns out to be a Truxedo with a 5 year warranty.
I need to get Tweetys to send me a B&W Companion OEM next week.
Ah, the rare front wheel drive F350. :) Congrats!

Only area the GM doesn't beat the Ford in is the back seat size. But that will change next year too.

Are you referencing the 2013 model year or 2014? GM would be back on my list if they come out with the new large cab for 2013....
Regards
2014 model release mid-late 2013. So they say.
