RE: Biloxi, Ms.

Thanks for all the info! Heading out in the morning. Wife made reservations at the Majestic Oaks That's where we stay and really like it. When you're driving along the beachfront highway, please notice the wood carvings in the median. They were done by artists after Katrina destroyed so many trees.

RE: Brussels sprouts cooking question...?

I don't watch Dr Oz on a regular basis, but happened to catch him yesterday--talking about combining certain foods for health reasons. One was Brussel sprouts with olive oil. 1. Brussel sprouts have lutein, good for the eyes, and combining them with olive oil boosts the absorption. 2. Apple slices (with skin on) dipped in melted dark chocolate--good for the heart. 3. Green tea is anti-inflammatory. Adding a squirt of lemon juice improves the absorption by 13 times. I, too, was surprised to see so many who love Brussel sprouts and love all the different ways of preparing.

RE: Big Bend National Park, Texas

We stayed at the Big Bend RV/Motel Park at Study Butte, mentioned above. Their website is bigbendresortadventures.com It has FHU and you're only a couple of miles from the park entrance. We really liked the location. There is a cafe across the highway, a small convenience store/gas station down the road, and nearby Terlingua ghost town is worth a visit. We LOVE Big Bend because it's so beautiful and not lots of crowds and traffic.

RE: attractions near Helen Georgia

We were in that area a year or so ago--quite a lot to do and see. Helen is a neat little town to see for all the buildings and shops. There's usually some kind of entertainment going on. Plus, there is a nice Visitors Center with lots of info and brochures of attractions. I'm sorry the Kangaroo Center is closed to the public. We were fortunate to have been able to do that. Anna Ruby Falls is very pretty--a short hike to get to it...also there is a little covered bridge near Helen (Stovall Mill Covered Bridge)--you will pass an old country store on the way to it. In nearby Dawsonville, there is a Racing Hall of Fame Museum--lots of racing memorabilia, and some old cars from early days of racing--plus car and trophies of Bill Elliott.

RE: Medical question

Although my cancer is differant (prostate) and mine was caught early, I'm only 44 and thankful I was diagnosed in September and today I am undetectable after surgery 3 months ago. I found it very important to be comfortable with your doctor and like others said the Internet can be good and bad at the same time, so much information. I was told to stick with the .org sites and stay away from the .coms alot better information. A website I go to alot and am a member is www.healingwell.com a very good forum with lots of information..... It's the rv.net of health and I will say that the folks here were great when I posted my health problem. Help your friend stay positive, that makes a huge difference! Jeff Thanks, Jeff--I will pass that forum site along to him. And continued good health to you.

RE: Medical question

My MIL has the slow growing CLL. Her oncologist keeps an eye on her count I think once a month, but that is it. It goes up or down some depending on how much stress she is taking on. He told her she may need some treatment in 10 years or so (She will then be 73) or she may never require treatment. He said she should slow down some, but as a type A personality that is not possible. She has no symptoms, and it does not affect her life. She has some immune system capability reduction, but we don't know if that has more to being a breast cancer survivor (twice) or the CLL. The CLL in her case was likely contributed to by the radiation etc she had to take to kill the cancer. Prayers are with your friend. Thank you. My friend is also a type A personality--not only does he work a regular job, he also owns and manages a florist business. His doctor indicated that his is Stage 0, and probably nothing has to be done now--just keep watch.

RE: Medical question

Thanks for the suggestions. He had heart surgery last May, and he says he feels fine now--this is why it was such a shock to him.

RE: Pink Lady Cake

I made this cake today and it is delicious! I am going to make it for a July 4th get-together....use a cream cheese frosting with strawberries and blueberries on top for decoration. Thanks again!

Medical question

I have a friend at work (age 50) who has just been diagnosed with 'chronic lymphocytic leukemia'. His doctor has scheduled an appointment this week with an oncologist. He has been reading a lot on the internet and, of course, he is very confused, along with being very upset. I do not know much about this, but his "count" was 19,000 and his doctor says he will probably not have to do anything like treatments anytime soon. Today he called Cancer Treatments of America and the person he spoke with said he needs to see a leukemia specialist rather than an oncologist. He is wondering which would be best--one of those Cancer Treatment places or Mayo Clinic. If anyone here is familiar with this type of leukemia or has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

RE: Big Bend Nat'l Park, Texas

We stayed at the Big Bend RV Park in Study Butte/Terlingua--it was just a mile or so from the entrance to the park, small convenience store/gas station nearby, cafe across the highway. I agree with another poster--Terlingua is worth a visit--a ghost town of sorts with a very unusual and beautiful cemetery and old buildings. Big Bend itself is just Awesome! Not crowded and the scenery is breathtaking--from mountains to desert to the Rio Grande. We saw lots of wildlife-javalinas, antelopes, prairie dogs and one morning as I was walking in an area behind the RV park, I heard something behind me--it was 2 coyotes trotting along and passing me by without even a glance! Of course I did not have my camera. It took my breath away! I can't say enough about Big Bend and the area--definitely one of the places we want to visit again.

RE: Need healthy chicken recipes

I'm not offering a recipe just wanted to make you aware of the rotisserie chickens at Walmart. They are absolutely delicious, comes in lemon pepper, regular, barbecue. I buy one at least once a week and we can eat on it for 2 or 3 days. I've often used the breast meat for chicken salad, turns out really good. I agree--we often start out our trips with one of these rotisserie chickens.

RE: Pink Lady Cake

Sounds absolutely delicious--and so easy! I'm definitely going to give this a try. Thanks so much for sharing.

RE: Need healthy chicken recipes

I sometimes top chicken breasts with pineapple rings (no sugar added) and a little of the pineapple juice--serve with brown rice and steamed broccoli. Also, stir-fry breast thin fillets cut into bite-size pieces, thin-sliced almonds and veggies of choice. I prefer chicken over beef anytime.

RE: Santa Fe and Alburquerque NM Campground Recommendations

We stayed at the Albuquerque KOA Central a few years ago--for just one night, but we thought it was nice.

RE: Pensylvainia Amish Country Trip Suggestions

We stayed at an rv park in Gettysburg last year, so I can't recommend campgrounds, but we took some day trips: 1. Hershey...loved Chocolate World, one large building with lots to do and eat--but don't miss the free ride that shows chocolate from the bean to candy--the smell of chocolate is wonderful! 2. Intercourse...where some of the movie 'Witness' was made; downtown there is Zimmerman's Grocery and the phone booth Harrison Ford used in the movie (good place for a picture); covered bridges; buggy rides; Dutch Haven is a nice little shop for unique souvenirs and they will let you sample the ShooFly pie. As another posted mentioned, nearby Bird-In-Hand is a good place to buy pies if you want. I agree about a day trip to Gettysburg. Very beautiful, interesting area. Have a great trip!
