RE: Michigan Body Repair

Thanks guys! I live in the Brighton/Howell area too - seems there's enough of us Livingston County folk that we could have our own rally! :) Schroeder's is only minutes from me. I've seen many RVs there, but never any full body painted DPs so I was unsure how far they go. I'll check them out, thanks!

Michigan Body Repair

Hey guys! I had some wind damage several weeks ago to my MADP -- the girard patio awning was bent over and destroyed and a bay door was damaged. I also have a couple of other minor things such as a scrape under the front nose that most beyond my OCD self wouldn't notice - I wanted to get those taken care of as well. I have a quote from Newmar, but they have not personally seen it beyond pictures. Because of this, the insurance company won't commit to the repair. Newmar won't commit to ordering the parts (whole new awning and bay door to the tune of $5k) without signing the quote agreeing to self-pay independent of the insurance company, which I'm obviously uncomfortable with. I contacted Precision Paint, who seemed very nice to work with. I sent Paul the information and pictures, but have not been able to get a hold of him since. They seem really busy, which is understandable. To make things easy, I'd like to find someone in Michigan I can take it to. General RV in Wixom is only 20 minutes from me, but I've not been able to find any reviews of their body shop. Any suggestions for a reputable body shop in MI that can both meet my OCD standards and work with the insurance company? Thanks!!

RE: Newmar of Fleetwood

If you're happy with your coach and you're not changing to meet floorplan needs - I'd give it further consideration. As I see it, new coaches are a luck of the draw anymore... from any manufacturer. With each passing year, there's more EPA garbage to deal with - meaning more potential points of failure, increased maintenance costs, etc. I'm not convinced quality increases each year either... in fact, based on the RV show I went to this year, I think it's gone backwards for some. If you are set on upgrading, I don't mean to start a new vs used debate, but give some thought to a gently used, solid coach. You can save a fortune, avoid the new DEF and with any luck, the punch list will have already been completed for you. I bought my MADP at 1yr old. Someone custom ordered it - complete with several Essex upgrades, used it twice and decided to buy a plane instead. So, it sat in his airplane hangar for a year, then I bought it at a deal that still puts me "right side up" even with the current economy. It's been problem-free, I'm religious about maintenance and it's stored in my heated shop - so I expect it to last me years and years. I hope it does, because I sure don't want to upgrade and lose what I have. I have trouble following the new Newmar line now - so I don't know where the Dutch Star currently ranks. I know they did major downgrades on the Dutch Star then introduced the Dutch Aire, then they downsized the Mountain Aire from my 2007, then after all that, discontinued the Dutch Aire. Not sure if they upgraded the Dutch Star back to its original status? Somewhere in between, they dumped Spartan on most rigs. Someone at Newmar has ADD. LOL If I were to upgrade though, it will either be Newmar or Newell. The customer support at Newmar has been fantastic. A great bunch of people. I've been very pleased with the quality of my coach as well, apart from the fact that I'd have preferred a better paint job -- that's more my OCD than anything. Good luck with your decision.
