Do you miss your front window?

We have noticed that most of the new 2012 and 2013 TT don't have a front window any more. This is something we have always enjoyed. It seemed like it let a lot of light in and we enjoyed looking out and seeing what was going on in the cg. I was wondering if anyone had a front window in their last TT and bought a new one without a front window. Does it seem darker in the trailer now? Does anyone miss that front window? Trying to decide if I can live without that front window, front kitchen design as they seem so hard to find.

RE: Restaurants Suggestions near Niagara Falls

Our favorite place is the Skylon buffet. The floor revolves and overlooks the falls. After eating you can go to the third floor and walk around and see the view. Not cheap, but a nice treat. Our son really enjoyed it when he was about 10.

Jamestown NPS, Jamestown Festival Park, Yorktown

Can someone tell me if it would be possible to see two of these in one day without being too rushed? If so, which two would be best to see the same day? Then we would allow another full day for the other attraction.

Advice on purchasing a fifth-wheel

Seeking some advice. We have had a travel trailer for almost 15 years. We designed our trailer with a front kitchen (that we love). We find it brings more light into the trailer and with a removable bench seat at the table allows for a nice living room sitting area. New (2012 or 2013) trailers with a front kitchen design are hard to find. Several people have suggested we consider a fifth-wheel. I have always been weary of fifth-wheels because I've heard and seen several problems with them: such as dropping the fifth-wheel on the truck bed, the king-pin not locking, turning and the trailer crunches into the cab, height misalignment). I'm sure improvements have been made over the years to solve some of these problems. Okay, I should keep an open mind. Perhaps a new fifth wheel could meet our needs. We have a 2007 Chev. Silverado 1500 pickup truck, two wheel drive, four door crew cab truck with a 315 h.p. flex-fuel engine that includes the tow package. When we ordered it from the factory, we had a 3.73 ratio rear axle installed. This gave us a tad less MPG but increased the towing capacity to 10,200 pounds. I like to keep within 2/3rds of my full towing capacity when towing because of safety and handling concerns. My truck bed is smaller than most truck beds. My question is this: What concerns do I need to address towing a fifth wheel using my present truck? Do I need a special yoke and king pin? What kind of hardware cost is involved converting to trailering a fifth-wheel? If you care to offer some opinions, I would appreciate it.I do realize that a fifth-wheel won't have a front kitchen. Just considering other options as we can't seem to find what we really want in a travel trailer.

Fort Monroe, Va.

Went on their website and don't exactly understand what is there. I saw you can take a 90 minute walking tour and visit a museum. What are you actually looking at on this walk and how do you know what everything is? Do they give you some written literature to explain everything?

RE: Camping around Boston/Plymouth Mass

We stayed at Pinewood Lodge in Plymouth several years ago. We really liked the cg. You would have to check to see if it has the amenities you desire.

RE: Attractions near Williamsburg, Va.

We have added Norfolk Naval Station, Norfolk Botanical Garden, Jamestown-Scotland ferry, Sherwood Forest, Shirley, and Berkeley Plantations. We will add Old Coast Guard Station and Military Aviation Museum if we can get tours. Want to especially thank Jim and 2hams for all those suggestions. Guess that should add another five days. What do you all think?

RE: Attractions near Williamsburg, Va.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I will look into all these. Sorry I didn't give more details of what we are looking for. I usually do. We are not tied down to any time schedule. We will stay as long as we find things that interest us. We are not interested in shopping, fishing, beaches,or places to eat. So far, we thought we would spend two or three days in Colonial Williamsburg. Two or three days at Jamestown and Yorktown. Maybe one day at Busch Gardens. We thought we might drive to Virginia Beach area for a day, but could relocate to that area if there is enough to do. We like visiting gardens, waterfalls, short hikes, theater, and taking tours of homes. We like museums, but are burning out on nautical displays and air and space. Not into weapons. We like going just about anywhere that offers a tour or has a guide that offers information. We like out of the way goofy places. We were to Williamsburg about 20 years ago, so we are kind of familiar with some of the area, but were only there for a few days. No kids to entertain. Really, just about open to any ideas except "wild and crazy". Been there and done that and aren't able to do it any more :(

RE: May visit to mammoth cave, jelly stone or Horse cave KOA?

There are restrictions on children's ages when going in the caves. You might want to check that out before making plans.

Attractions near Williamsburg, Va.

Can you tell me any other attractions to take in within an hours drive of Williamsburg. We know about Colonial Williamsburg,Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens, Water Country, and the Pottery Mall. We know about Virginia Beach, but not anything to do there except go to the beach. We aren't interested in going over to D.C. on this trip. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg Va.

Do you think it is worth going to Busch Gardens if you don't plan to ride many of the rides? No kids. May do train, boat and skyride, but not many others. Would go to any shows, animals displays, crafts or other attractions. What is your opinion?

RE: What are our chances?????????????

If you are looking for volunteer positions at state parks in exchange for a site, I don't think you will have trouble finding something if you aren't picky about where you go. When we started looking, we found opportunities immediately. I saw several paid positions available also, but those seem to require commitments of a lot longer period of time.

Thanks everyone for the information. We have decided on American Heritage if we can get in. Since we plan to stay for seven nights, I think we would like to have full hook-ups. Thanks again.

American Heritage/Newport City, Va. cg ???

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of these two parks if you have stayed at both. Trying to decide which would be a better choice for us. No kids with us. Don't need a pool. Would like full hook-ups. Don't need anything fancy, but would prefer cable and WiFi if possible. We like some grass, if possible, and a peaceful atmosphere. Not worried about shade. 26" TT, no slides. Any comments appreciated.

RE: Henryford museaun, are there any close campgrounds

We stayed at the Wayne County Fairgrounds last spring. We were about 20 minutes away from the village. The cg has some full hook-ups. The prices were very reasonable. It is like a big grassy field, no trees. Right next to Walmart and some restaurants you can walk to. Not a place I would want to spend a month, but definitely met our needs for three nights. We would go back. Be sure to do the tour of the truck factory also. Very interesting. We did one day at the village, and the other day split between the tour and the museum. Could do one each day if you really take your time and have a lot of interest in the museum. I believe their new area in the museum should be open by now. They have a new RV section and restaurant.

RE: what is the best CG in Pigeon Forge with FH?

We have stayed at Clabough's about 10 times. Have stayed at several other cg in the area also. We like the location of Clabough's. Near a grocery store, several restaurants we like to go to and you can usually get in at the last minute because it is so big. They have entertainment on the weekends and trolley comes through cg, though we tend to always drive. There isn't a lot of space between most sites, but that's the way most cg are in that area. The price tends to run lower than most other cg in area. New bathroom and little lazy river.
Little restaurant on site.

RE: Hocking Hills SP or KOA?

We have stayed at both parks and enjoyed both. I don't think you will be disappointed with either. The KOA is one of the nicer KOA's we have been to. Didn't feel like a parking lot. It looked like there were several things for kids to do at the cg. Some of the state park's sites are close together, it depends on what site you get. They fill up a lot on weekends. There isn't a lot of privacy between sites at state sites either, but you aren't on top of each other. The state park seems more hectic on the weekends but kids probably like all the commotion. If there is a lot of difference in price, I would probably just take the cheaper one. If you happen to be there during the week, you can take a tour of a washboard factory that is unique in the area.

Think you will be happy with Grizzly. It has full hook-ups and cute town nearby for groceries, gas, restaurants, etc. Very close to park entrance.
