General Coffee State Park, Georgia

Can anyone give me information about this park. Do you know if you get any TV reception? I know they don't have cable. Also, how far to the nearest grocery? Are there any attractions within an hours drive that you would recommend?

RE: After Retirement Employment

Beth, I just retired after 32 years of teaching myself. I can understand that you may want to try something in a completely different field. In Ky. you don't get to draw Social Security, so I am a little surprised that you will get to. Subbing probably has the most flexibility and is the best pay. Tutoring jobs are hard to find and IMHO the time goes very slow. An aides position does have a lot of benefits. Work with the same kids every day, usually work in a small group, get to leave right after school. No papers to correct, no parents to contact in the evenings.(It would be like working half a day!) Still get off at holidays and summer. Pay is not good; about $13,000. in Ky., but in Ky. there is a limit to how much you can make per year in addition to your teacher's salary anyway. For a complete change of scenery - I have five friends who are working for a caterer. They work weddings, parties, etc. If they have something going on, or want to travel, they just mark off on the calendar for those days. They are kind of on call. Flexible schedule, but not guaranteed salary. They all really like it, but you do have to work alot of evenings and weekends. Have you thought of signing up with a temp service. I have worked for some in the past. Some jobs are filing, making phone calls, etc. You don't have to take jobs you don't want. What about being a hostess at a restaurant. I really enjoyed that position. You get to meet lots of people and it is easy work. You may just enjoy working retail for a change. Stocking shelves or folding clothes is a lot less stress than dealing with hundreds of kids and their parents every day! Good Luck. If you are like me, staying home may sound good, but can be boring and you may feel unproductive after working so hard for so long. Just try something. If you don't enjoy it, now you will have the option to quit and try something else.

RE: Booked first trip to RiverEdge rv park

Be sure to drive the Roaring Fork Motor tour out of Gatlinburg, but don't take the camper with you!! If able, take a few of the hikes too.

RE: driving in and around Atlanta

We went through on a Saturday afternoon and came back on a Sunday afternoon and really didn't have that much trouble with traffic. The weekend seems much better to us.

RE: Which Georgia State Park is best for us?

John, thanks for your information. We are open to any area. We love coastal, mountain, anywhere there is alot to do or see. We love to do any kind of tours, plantations would be great, small hikes, scenery, battlefields we have seen, unless someone takes you and explains what you are looking at. Don't have any children with us so not worrying about entertaining small children. We just are looking for advice to narrow down our trip to a few state parks. After looking at the website, there seems to be so many good choices, we were hoping with telling what we like to do, others could help us pick which would be best for us. We have gotten so much good advice on this forum, I figure those who have visited know more than us. Thanks.

Which Georgia State Park is best for us?

If we wanted to visit a few Georgia State parks which do you think we would enjoy most? We are most interested in parks that are located near other attractions. We like to visit historic places, homes, unique sites, museums, touristy things are fine, not into fishing or shopping. Don't care about places to eat. We may also consider a camp host position. What parks do you think would be best for our interests? We like to stay busy. (We have been to Little White House area and Stone Mountain area already and would like to visit somewhere else). Thanks for any information you can offer.

RE: over night CG around Naples I75

I would skip the trolley tour of Naples while there unless you just need to get around town. The ride was noisy and all you see is highway and some places to shop and eat. One of the worst tours we have ever taken. JMHO

RE: Ohio to Florida and anywhere inbetween

Few ideas - Branson, Mo - Silver Dollar City Amusement Park, White Water Park, Ride the Ducks, shows that children would enjoy, fish hatchery, horse back riding, indoor miniature golf, showboat, take out a boat on the lake, Five and Dime store, boardwalk (see the water and fire show), Bass Pro shop, train ride, College of the Ozarks - have a working mill and can see farm equipment and animals, Wisconsin Dells - boat rides, huge go cart parks, water parks, House on the Rock, Baraboo Circus museum - has merry-go-round, Tommy Bartlett ski show, Niagra Falls (would need passport) falls, Ripley's, Deer park/amusement park, cable car across falls, boat ride up to the falls, Art park (if still there), walking behind the falls,

RE: Spring Gultch campground in PA

We stayed at Spring Gultch several years ago. Our site at top of hill was very nice. Private and very wide. We thought the price was expensive though and they would not let us check in 30 minutes early unless we paid an extra fee. Our site was too far to walk to the pool and parking was a problem near the pool. We stayed at a differnt cg last time (adults only, but can't think of the name off the top of my head) and enjoyed it a lot. If you interested, PM me and I will locate the name for you.

RE: Campgrounds near Chicago

Stayed at Indian Dunes and thought it was a nice cg and very easy to hop on train and go into Chicago. Would definitely stay there again.

RE: Florida Keys

You can tour two homes and take a trolley tour of Key West. She probably would enjoy the trolley ride, but may be bored with the tour of the homes. She probably would enjoy seeing some of the acts that take place on Mallory Square, but might see some sights you would prefer she not see. (men dressed in woman's clothes, etc.) She might enjoy seeing the ships and the sunset. There is a glass bottom boat ride at Pennecamp she might like. Wasn't running the day we were there, too rough of waters. If you are looking for touristy things that kids like to do (go carts, rides, etc.) I would say she would be disappointed. Two weeks might be long if you aren't going to be fishing, boating, and snorkling. It would have been too long for us. Glad we went, enjoyed it, but we think it is really more of an adult type vacation in that area. I think most children would choose somewhere else given the choice. JMHO

RE: Cincinnati, what to see or do?

1. Cincinnati Zoo 2. Newport Aquarium (they have shops, comedy theater, bowling, and restaurants, and video arcade in that same complex)Ky. 3. Can take a gangster walking tour in Newport, Ky. 4. Ride the Ducks or "B & B Riverboat" ride down the river Ky. 5. Children's Museum and Natural History Museum- same location 6. Playhouse in the Park, Aronoff Center for live theater 7. Cincinnati Art Museum 8. Flower Conservatory in Eden Park 9. Carew Tower for a view of the city 10.Banks (should be open by then -entertainment complex) 11.Turfway Park Ky.and Riverdowns horse racing 12.Finley Market 13.Loveland Castle (very unique story and place to visit) 14.Jungle Jim's (if you are into cooking and unique foods) 15.Bellevue, Ky. main street has little gift shops and restaurants and a knitting shop that is well known if you just want to roam a small town area for a few hours. 16. Cincinnati is known for their Gold Star, Skyline, and Empress Chili, Graeter's Ice Cream, and Montgomery Inn Ribs (on the river) All of these are within 15-20 minutes of downtown. If you want to venture out farther than that - Maysville,Ky. has a very unique miniature's museum and the Rosemary Clooney museum. Next town over from there, Washington has a tour of historic area which was a very nice tour. That is about an hour away. Rabbit Hash,Ky. is unique if you just want to take a ride, but it's pretty far to go for what you are going to see there IMHO. It has a little tiny general store, a little antique shop across the street and that's about it. It would be at least a 45 minute ride. Some people enjoy Big Bone,Ky. State Park if you are into seeing bones. Also about 45 minutes away. Lexington,Ky. would be about two hours away. I don't think King's Island Amusement Park would be open on weekends yet in April. Sharon Woods, Ohio has a village with small shops to tour.

RE: Nashville, TN - Two Rivers Camp. v. Seven Points Camp.?

If you stay at Two Rivers, be sure to ask to be away from the bus garage next door or you will be listening to beeping (buses backing up) until 12:00 am. Up the street, stop in at John A's for a great dinner and fun place to hang out on the weekend. Their house band is great and they often have up and coming talent sing or play. It has a bar, but is family friendly.

RE: Pennecamp, Curry Hamock and Bahi Honda

Just curious, is there a particular reason why you want to stay at both parks on your way to Bahi Honda? We stayed at Pennecamp two months ago. Kept calling and got a reservation the night before we wanted to go. I would keep calling.

RE: Campground close to Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn

We stayed at Wayne County Fairgrounds and thought the price was very reasonable. Met our needs. Would stay there again. Can't speak to the other suggestions. Be sure to take the tour of the Ford factory when you are there. The museum has just been renovated and I believe was suppose to be done Jan 28th or something like that. There is a package price for the museum and village. They also have a movie screen. Enough for at least three days of activities.

RE: Hocking Hills State Park Ohio

We have been there 5 or 6 times. We love the place. We love the hiking there. They can accomodate all kind of sizes. Whether you can get in would depend on what time of year you are going and what days of the week. They do take reservations. I think some sites are first come first serve. They can be very crowded during the summer, on the weekends. I would call the ranger station for best sites to fit your rig. They will be very helpful. No full hookups. Most sites have a nice amount of space between sites. There are not a lot of restaurants close by so you may want to plan on eating in most of the time. We did eat at the log cabin restaurant(ranger could help you find it, can't remember name) and the food was very good and nice atmosphere. There is a train ride, washboard factory and small village nearby if you are interested. Think you will enjoy it.

RE: Amazon jobs?

Jayco, don't be too hard on yourself about your comment. I think everyone has visited places they don't find particularly interesting. In fact, I remember a tour we took once that we were completely bored out of our minds, and it went on for two hours!! We wanted to leave but it was in a government building and we were being escorted for security reasons and the guy thought he was doing a great job. He was actually too knowledgeable for us, talked way over our heads. Didn't have the nerve to tell him we wanted to leave. We were the only ones on the tour!! Just didn't want anyone reading your post to think there wasn't anything in our state that was worth visiting. I agree with you that Yellowstone is awesome. It was nothing like anything we had ever seen before. The Badlands was the area that most surprised us. I think it is great that people have different interest. It makes for much better conversation!

RE: Gatlinburg

There have been numerous posts on various cg in the area. If you think you will mostly be going into the park and walking the strip in Gatlinburg, I would stay in that city. If you think you will mostly be going to shows, shopping, and want to be able to drive to the places and have parking, I would stay in Pigeon Forge. If you want to be 30 minutes away from all the commotion, I would stay in Townsend.
