RE: Watch that lie o meter....

I use the gas gage as a point of reference, but tend to use my trip odometer to track actual consumption. I know my range and can tell with a few fill ups if something is off.

RE: Carlisle tires prone to blow out

I don't care where they're made..when the spare tire blows out while it's just hanging on the back of the trailer that's where I'd have to draw the line. Maybe they need to retrain them robots to build a better product...Sounds like the cheif inspector robot was laying down on the job.. B.O. Think about what you just typed. Explain how a spare tire "blows out".

RE: Carlisle tires prone to blow out

Carlisles have been good to me. First 2 TT's had them and no issues. My current 2009 I got in 2008 TT came with Duro's and they were cracked beyond safe use in one calender year. Local tire shop that I trust recommended Carlisles, I got load range E's as they were only $1.00 more a tire. 2 years later wearing well, no cracks. FWIW I am trying to figure out how a spare tire on a rack blows out.....Especially if it is covered and protected from UV rays.....

RE: Aluminum cover over Awning.

I asked about the aluminum at my local RV shop when out awning collapsed. They advised against it due to the aluminum having potential to bind and not allow the awning to open. They had a motorhome on site with exactly that issue. The fabric exposed while it is rolled up is white and should not degrade any faster than your roof IMHO. FWIW I have yet to see any awning stay 100% dry. Just not possible.

RE: Decal Bubbles

My Prowler has been doing the same thing for 2 years now. Replacing decals is way too difficult so I just pop if large and the rest I just deal with. From what I read it relates to improper installation. Too much moisture under the vinyl.

RE: Slide-out Boot

How many of you had the sides of your slide out leak? That is about the only thing this does over a topper. Areas that kill it for me are it pretty much ruins the side windows for visibility and ventilation, still requires debris to be cleaned off prior to closing the slide and replacing a topper awning looks far easier than if this thing ever got a tear.

RE: EZ Lube Axles

I think more than a few of you are confusing EZ Lube axles with Bearing Buddies. Do yourselves a favor and visit Dexters website. IIRC it explains exactly how they work. Pump fresh grease in, old grease comes out. Wipe up old grease and replace rubber boot. Looking at service literature it doesn't mention boat trailers once.

RE: Well it ain't likely going to happen.

One of the reasons I see the ecoboost as a big joke. Anybody that would pay that sort of dollars, whether Canadian or American is foolish. When for the same or less they can get a 3/4 ton truck, capable of so much more. The ecoboost engine upgrade is $1,250 over the base 5.0.Only available in a half ton. The 6.2 engine upgrade is $1,650 over the base 5.3 for GMThe 6.2 is a hot rod motor derived from the Corvette. Is all aluminum and really not suitable as a towing motor. The 5.3L is in the half ton only. The 5.7 hemi engine upgrade is $1,250 over the base 4.7 RamCan you even get a 4.7L in a 3/4 ton Ram? I don't think so. A 3/4 ton is still a better buy than the f150 eco boost for its stronger frame, better brakes, better tires, and more load carrying capacity. The ecoboost still might be a big joke to you but you'll have to cross that reason off your list. Ford makes a 6.2L. You know that right? I think that is what he was referring to. Also last I checked this thread was about the F150, a 1/2 ton. So basic logic would say he was referring to a Ram 1500 with a Hemi upgrade.

RE: Roadmaster Active Suspension

I have a Nissan Titan and I have the HD version of the RAS. I love it. I got it to stop axle wrap and in lieu of a sway bar for a bit of added stability. IMHO works as advertised. IIRC a bunch of Excursion owners run RAS's due to axle wrap issues on the stock leaf spring pack.

RE: An unscrupulous dealer strikes again.

It says 1/2 ton towable. NOT towable by ANY 1/2 ton. It really isn't that complicated really. If you read further there is almost always the usual fine print that says "properly equipped". If you don't know how your truck is equipped and how those options affect the ratings then you are asking for trouble.

RE: Is it worth it to sipe tires?

Buy a tire engineered with siping if you need the traction. Most of the new Ice/snow tires are siped like crazy. They also run a rubber compound that stays supple in the winter.

RE: To Grease or not to Grease. That is the Question?

Boss and I have hitches the same age. I grease, he doesn't. His hitch ball is scored and rusty, mine is like new once the grease is wiped off. Pretty self explanatory. As far as weight, the ball for my boat trailer is rusted and scored like crazy. Same ball my grandfather used. Little tongue weight and only a 16ft fiberglass boat.

RE: 2012 Ram 1500 wins Truck King Challenge

Perry, the test was Canadian. I think you are using US dollars for your Longhorn price. The Platinum in this test is a plant to skew the test. Like bringing a Lexus to a test of non luxury line sedans. It is equipped with even more stuff than the King Ranch including an AWD mode like the Harley Davidson edition if I remember right. Also ANY engine when towing is going to guzzle gas. Not sure why people are so surprised. The point of the Ecoboost was better mpg which it does around town and on the highway when not towing. Naturally if you hook 8,000lbs to it you will drop in mileage. My 5.6L drops to around 10mpg and I am pretty certain the 5.7L Hemi does as well. FWIW I'll take the 23mpg highway over my 18-19mpg highway any day. Just give it to me in the much less tricked out and less pricey FX4 trim. :)

RE: Nissan NV passenger version is official

That is a terrible picture of it being posted here. The photo is distorted and squishes it together and stretches it up. I have seen a few around here and they look decent in person. As far as selling in small numbers goes, they haven't even been out for a full model year. Also Nissan is not a huge automaker. They will never sell 200,000 of these in a year. Period. Then again they don't have to. A passenger version makes sense. I agree a 4x4 version would be cool. It is based off the current Titan so it might not be too difficult for them to do.

RE: Slide out bracing bars

My Prowler came with rods. Manual says to use them during transport and long term storage.

RE: 2400 Nissan Van

Well Mike, I hope the whopping 200lb cushion you gained over the non big tow Titan you had helps you sleep better. All those issue and they were fixed in a mere 3 visits. Somebody got a cherry Titan after you dumped it. On topic, these vans look much better in person than in the photos. I have seen 4 of then here. 3 low roof, 1 tall roof.

RE: Kind of understand why dealer suggested service

Doesn't the 2008 use different heads than the ones popping plugs? The 3 valave heads have more threads.

RE: 2400 Nissan Van

Oddly Mike complained all over Titantalk about the tow ratings on the Titan and limited payload for his campers he towed. Yet after owning the Titan he owned a Pathfinder, Sport Trac and now an F150. All of which have no more tow or payload rating than his Titan had. If your Titan was that problematic Mike, why no lemon law??? Instead you got sweet talked into a Pathfinder? Guess my 05 is a fluke. Had some teething pains but has been bulletproof since. Towing a 7500lb TT. Sorry you had a lemon.

RE: help finding kid friendly campgrounds in northeast area

Moosehillock CG in Warren NH is great. They have a pool with a sunken ship and a few waterslides, huge sites and clean. They are near Polar Caves and not far from the Lakes Region and other attractions.
