RE: V10, 6.8 L Fuel Consumption

When my 2006 30' Gulfstream BTCruiser was new in 2005 I got 9.0 mpg so consistently that I stopped checking.
Two years later I started towing a Honda CR-V and I began checking mileage again. Mpg dropped to 8.5 and was so consistent for about 10,000 miles I again stopped checking.
But I had discovered that I could expect about 100 miles for every 1/4 tank of gas per the gas gage.
This past year of travels (winter trip from Indiana to So Cal and summer trip to the Pacific NW) I began seeing only 85-90 miles per 1/4 tank so I checked mileage again. It has dropped into the low 7's!
Both going West and returning East.
I'm currently at 87,000 miles and I understand a tune-up is not "scheduled maintenance" until 100,000 miles. Does my drop in mpg sound like a tune-up is needed (probably very expensive) or is there something else I might not be aware of? Anyone else having the same experience? I did change tires to Michelin XPS Ribs two years ago, but I can't believe it would lower my mpg.
Engine seems to run just fine. I change oil and grease the zerks every 3,000 miles and have performed all scheduled maintenance. And I weigh before each trip to ensure I'm not exceeding the GVWR.
Any ideas?

RE: Oxydation on Gel Coat....removal?

Take a look at this product.
I've used it for years on my tires and all weather stripping and exterior plastic on the RV and "love it"!
Looking online for more several weeks ago after I ran out I found this site below. The spec sheet says it restores faded gel coat. I tried it on a small area of my gel coat with the little I had left and it worked for me.
As soon as this heat wave is over I'm going to do my whole RV with it.

RE: Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway

paulj,
You've pretty much given the same route as the "Byway".
89 to I5 to 97 north to Crater.
Although the "Byway" info I downloaded did not say the route was Not recommended for RV's, nowhere did it mention that it Was ok for RV's.
Your response sounds like it will be fine for my 30' C with Honda tow.
Your Eastern suggestion (395 to 31)I'm sure is a great route as well, but it bypasses Crater Lake.
Thankyou!

Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway

Currently researching "Roads and Routes" for a possible September/October trip to the Pacific Northwest. There is so much to see and do. Came across the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway connecting Lassen NP to Crater NP.
Does anyone have experience with this Byway? I assume it's RV friendly but hearing from someone who has actually traveled it would be reassuring.

RE: ADDING REFRIGERANT TO ROOFTOP A/C

You can ad a saddle valve to add the refrigerant. I did one and never had a leak and it worked like new
x2, I did this and used it another 6 years without having to add more refrigerant either.
Another question - is this a do-it-yourself repair or is a heating/ac tech required?
And - can you provide a link or a part number to the saddle valve you used, and where you bought the refrigerant?

Did you ever find out how it leaked it the first place?

RE: ADDING REFRIGERANT TO ROOFTOP A/C

Well, lot's of quick replys - thank you.
It's a relativly new unit (installed 10 months ago) and only used twice this past winter trip out west.
So I don't think it needs cleaning.
The compressor works - I can hear it "kick" in with the fan running and then switching on the a/c.
I took it back to the person who installed it and he said it must have lost it's refrigerant and he can't fix it.
So I guess what I've been told is correct - I'll have to buy a new one.

ADDING REFRIGERANT TO ROOFTOP A/C

I've been told it's not possible to add refrigerant to an RV rooftop dometic air conditioner - that I will need to buy a new one.
Should I believe this or seek another service center?
