RE: Yellowstone in September

We were there a number of years ago just before Labor Day weekend. Seems like most of the shops & restaurants were closing down, or drastically reducing their staff. Don't know how things are now??? Probably much less crowded than during summer.

RE: Anybody use these awning rope light hooks?

We use the clips mentioned by the OP. Didn't expect to be able to roll them up. Takes less than a minute to put them into and out of the awning tube.

RE: Towel Bars

When we got our new 5er, 7 years ago, I needed to add some towel racks. Didn't know what to use so I used some coarse threaded sheet metal screws, drilled some pilot holes first into the paneling. If they didn't hold I'd need a plan B. So far they are still holding strong.

I've been using the "other brand" for years. Seems to work OK for us.

RE: Awning rod multi tool

I marked my awning rod with tape denoting how far the slide out sticks out. When in tight quarters it provides a guide so I know that the slide out will not hit anything when extended.

RE: Can you tow a Travel trailer in express lanes

Every time we've gone through Chicago the standard lanes were going about 11mph & express lanes about 17mph. Probably doesn't matter what lane you are in.:B

RE: truck modifications

Most of the guys that design trucks pretty much know what they are doing, as opposed to some guys selling aftermarket stuff "made to take full advantage of the capabilities of your new truck". If you are going to use a tuner to monitor stuff your truck is doing, that is probably ok. If you need a tuner to make the truck run better, you need a different truck.

RE: Bird nest in the pin box

Stuff in a chunk of foam rubber.
B.O.
A piece of thick foam rubber that fits tight is what we use , works great.
X3 - Easy to take out & put back for weekend trips.

RE: Commode cleaning 101

I have never cleaned the pipe and cannot see the need for it except by people that have nothing else to do but worry about every little thing! :)
This gets my vote!

RE: Rim Pressures

Have you ever seen one explode? I have, it's not a pretty sight.
The rim exploded? You got pictures because I find that hard to beleive. A tire yes a rim unless it was a split rim Im calling BS on that one
Back in the old days when I worked in the tire shop I saw a few wheels that failed. Did they explode, probably if you were operating the vehicle when they failed. The failure was that the wheels cracked just inside of where the tire contacts the wheel.
The wheels did split, and they were not split rims. I am very familiar with split rims.
I call BS on someone that makes stupid statements regarding something they have no experience with.

RE: Just a reminder to drive (EXTREMELY GRAPHIC)

Driving in those conditions as you approach someone to pass and while passing you collect quite a bit of spray from the tires of the other vehicle. Probably lost sight of the road, maybe reached down to turn on wipers???

RE: Extra deadbolt

I believe that the more dead bolts you have, the more damage the thief will do when they break in. As said above the structure of the door and door jam is not strong enough to keep anybody out.

RE: Another gray/black question, sorry.

Hi BigSur2,
I simply drain my tanks fully each time. Then I use plenty of water when flushing. So far exactly zero problems in ten years of about 50 nights per year.
I do exactly the same thing. It is probably more important to make sure you have plenty of liquid in your tanks when draining them, to ensure any solids are flushed away.

RE: Legality of required towing accessories

This came up in conversation the other day. How do states with limits of say 1500 pounds (fill in the blank) sell trailers of GVWs without brakes. Many utility trailers have GVWs of 2000 pounds and have no breaks and are still sold in States like California. They have all the required DOT stickers on them etc. It would seem the various departments would get together on this...eg law enforcement, DOT at state level etc.
All states sell cars that are capable of exceeding the maximum speed limit for each of those states. It is up to the individual operating the car, or trailer to ensure that they are within the legal requirements for their state.
I don't think states can regulate every item sold in their state to ensure each item can be operated safely in each area of their particular state.

See item two in the OP list:
To keep the bears out of your campsite, just put up a goal post.
Now that is funny! LMAO! Thank you! :B
That surely is an old joke. Isn't funny how the old ones get better with age!!:B

RE: 4 flat tires in storage

I would say vandalism. Pump them back up & monitor closely to see if you actually have a problem. I'd also look closely to the area where the tire was all crunched up & touching the ground. That is where I would expect to see damage from sitting flat.

RE: When did we get the right to speed?

"Speeding" is a relative term by someone else's definition.
As far as fuel mileage, my Excursion gets way better mileage traveling at 85 mph (my comfort speed) than it does 45 mph. So...no point to this thread. America is all about freedom so you're always going to have people traveling at different speeds on the highway based on their personal choice regardless of the speed sign. No debate from me on this issue. Oh, and by the way....I park in the middle of two parking spaces in the grocery parking lot. Who says I have to fit between 'their' lines. Freedom baby, freedom!
Yup I love those Big Excursions that try taking up two parking spaces. Evertime I see one I let the wifey out and back my little Vitara right in tight to the drivers door. Get out Lock her up and do my shopping. The great little car ain't new so an odd body rash is just another beauty mark and I love the entertainment.
See ya down the road.
"I park in the middle of two parking spaces in the grocery parking lot. Who says I have to fit between 'their' lines"
A BRAZEN EXAMPLE OF THE LACK OF COURTESY FOR OTHERS RAMPANT TODAY!!!!
It is "their" parking lot and it is shared by many it is common courtesy to park within marked lines when possible......
I have also been known to take up more than one parking space. Part of the problem is that the spaces have shrunk over the years, as the size of cars has gotten smaller. However I park way in the back of the lot where all the people whose rights are being abused would never park anyway.

RE: You always think it can never happen to you.

Our 5er was broken into about 1 1/2 years ago. They did more $ damage breaking in, than the value of the stuff they took. Frig was full of cold beer, ready for a quick getaway, but they never touched the beer - probably because it wasn't bud lite. Insurance was good, paid for everything less deductible.
Over the course of about 6 months the crooks broke into many campers and storage units. Enough to get 10 years after they were caught & tried.
