RE: Shower Surround Caulking

RE: vent pipe covers

Or you can take the useless cover off and either replace them with a set of 'shark fins' or the frugal (cheaper) version is to go to Lowes/Home Depot and get a pvc "T" and do this: http://rv-living-magazine.com/rv-tank-vents.html

RE: Bedding ... sleeping bag OR linens??

flannel sheets all season long. warm in the spring, comfy in the summer, great in the fall. Up front we have a heated mattress pad ($20 clearance find, dual zone for each of us). the kids have the same minus the headed pad. We each have our own no-sew fleece blanket for added warmth/comfort. Takes under 10 minutes to make all three beds.

RE: HTT water tank insulation

Do what a bunch of full timers do, skirt the bottom of the trailer with that pink foam board insulation, get a 110v inverter and put a 100watt light bulb under the trailer for overnight. That should keep things warm enough where your fresh tank won't freeze up. Not really all that practical for 2-3 days though.

RE: Finally the cold got me

I had the sheet vinyl floor split in my 02. It was a blessing in disguise though. Had the floor not split, we wouldn't have found some water damage at the front of the camper (flooring split at the rear of the camper) http://hortonsonline.com/photos/albums/userpics/normal_palfloor4.JPG We cut the sheet vinyl out (as was mentioned the flooring goes down before the walls/cabinets go in) around the perimeter of the camper/cabinets/etc and put down new peel & stick tiles that we liked. In addition to the adhesive on the tiles, I used 3M spray adhesive and didn't have any problems up until we sold the trailer. Nice thing is we had an extra case of tiles we included with the people that bought the trailer. newer trailers are coming with vinyl flooring that's designed not to split with the temperature changes that can occur.

RE: Black tank power washer

Lil big of liquid plumber in the gray tank works wonders. On my previous trailer I had Tornado flushers in both black and gray tanks. Haven't gotten around to adding it to the new trailer. If I do, I'll probably over engineer it and instead of having two separate hookups for the Tornado, I'd put a Y in line with shut off valves to direct it to either tank.

RE: Rearview Camera on trailer?

You can still get the Peak systems on ebay...but they're not the 7" monitor units. Having had both the 3.5" and the 7" monitor setups...I'd take the 7" any day

RE: Tahoe towing Roo 233S

I have that setup, but I have the Palomino S21RGS (same trailer, just a wee bit difference on the couch/dinette). You will notice it behind you when you take off, but once you're moving, it's no different than any other travel trailer. Could use a little more motor at times, but then again..it's like that with most trailers. Just remember, the more you mash the gas, the faster you get to find the next gas station. Having the Equal-i-zer setup is a breeze for hooking up and backing into sites.

RE: A Camping Miracle!!!

We picked up a dual zone, heated mattress pad on clearance for $20 two years ago. Perfect for spring/fall camping trips to keep us nice and toasty. We use it in the winter time at home too for our bed.

RE: Last Trip of the season....

Where did you stay when you camped in Winona? We stayed at Prairie Island Campground for an overnight and that place was a DUMP! we had power at our site, but for water, that was a rats nest of hoses and splitters strewn all across the ground. Thankfully we were only there for an overnight. Anything more than that and I'd still be showering to get the backwoods Alabama feeling off me.

RE: Equal-i-zer adjustment - your thoughts

Here's a pic I had on my phone showing the pivot. I've heard from Equal-i-zer and I sent them this as well to review. http://www.hortonsonline.com/images/equalizer_pivot.jpg width=640 Moderator edit to re-size picture to forum limit of 640 pixels maximum width to avoid scrolling.

RE: Equal-i-zer adjustment - your thoughts

I emailed Equal-i-zer yesterday to see what their thoughts are on the issue. I guess my concern is the two bolts that hold the L brackets on. Those are held in place vertically by the two plates that sandwich around the trailer frame. If the L bracket is pivoting forward and those other two plates are remaining vertical and stationary, that puts extra pressure on those two bolts, I'm just worried the bolts would snap with the added pressure. If I hear back from Equal-i-zer, I'll update this thread

RE: Equal-i-zer adjustment - your thoughts

Are your chains vertical when hitched up? If there is a slight angle to the chains (usually due to LP tank covers being in the way) then they will pull on the brackets while in a straight pull and then yank on them while turning. No chains on an Equal-i-zer WDH setup.

Equal-i-zer adjustment - your thoughts

I'm on my second trailer having an Equal-i-zer WDH setup on it. My previous trailer had the "older style" setup with the jam nut setup for the L brackets. Our new trailer has the new current style with the two bolts that hold the L bracket in place. After towing for a bit, I noticed that the L brackets are actually starting to tilt/pivot towards the front of the tongue. My uncle has the same new style Equal-i-zer hitch setup on his TT and his is doing the same thing. Anyone else seeing this with their setup? I have to sit down and draw a picture so I get a better idea of what kind of adjustments I need to make (either raise the L brackets, add/remote washers on the tilt pin, etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

RE: Tank back flusher - lesson learned!

thanks for all the "Captain Obvious" comments, :-) I know what I'm doing when it comes to my trailer and the do's and don'ts of water/flushing. The black tank flusher has a check valve inline to keep it from backing up into the dedicated supply hose. It would take a whole lotta back up water to contaminate the fresh water supply hose from the dedicated backflushing hose. But thanks for reminding me something I already know. The point of my post was to alert others to possible faulty Y valves and to not keep it connected all the time (which is my SOP usually).

Tank back flusher - lesson learned!

So I learned a lesson this weekend about water. On my trailer I have an in tank flusher for my black tank. Usually I only hookup my water hose to that flusher right before I use it. For whatever reason I decided to hookup that hose to my Y splitter when I setup the camper. Didn't think anything of it. Til the next morning when I got up to go to the bathroom and saw water coming out of the toilet and all over the bathroom floor (thankfully it was clear water!). Come to find out the Y wasn't fully closed, even though the valve looked closed. It was leaking about maybe 3/4 gallon of water/hour into the black tank. The night before I found it a little odd that my tank was full within a day. I first chalked it upto my little boy who likes to flush a gallon of water every time he flushes. I unscrewed the hose connection at the Y and saw the small flow of water. So needless to say I'm getting a new Y and I will be keeping the backflushing hose disconnected until I'm using it. Thankfully the tank was "clean" when filled up and overflowed. hopefully my little screw up keeps someone else from making the same mistake.

RE: Freshwater Tank Drain on Shamrock 23SS

make sure you open up the hot water tap on your sink before you try to remove the anode rod. lotta pressure in there makes for a very wet (and dangerous) escapade if you don't relieve the pressure. ask me how I know...
