RE: campgrounds in Columbus Ohio area- need advice

Try Cross Creek across from Alum Creek State Park, it's a Good Sam Park. Nice grounds, pool full hook-up, but no cable. You aren't far from Columbus Zoo and their water park.

RE: Suggested Parks along I-95, Virginia to Maine?

We will be leaving Ohio to head to Maine May 29th. Near the New Hampshire border we will pick up I-95. I-95 in Maine becomes a toll road. Get off on north side of Portland and take I-295N and from their to US-1 and take along the coast, from Brunswich. This is where most of the seaside scenery is located. We plan on seeing Acadia NP, do a whale watch and have a lobster dinner. On I-95 take exit 36 their is a KOA (Saco/Old Orchard Beach) 1-800-562-1886 Then from US 1 we will stay at Shore Hills Campground in Boothbay 1-207-633-4782 and do our Whale Watch cruise. Then taking US 1 to Elsworth we will park at Too Camping Resort and do our lobster dinner and visit Acadia NP. Our lobster dinner will be at the Lobster Pound in Trenton,Me. Hope this helps and have a great trip.

RE: Must see in California?

We traveled down the Oregon coast last summer into California. We stayed at Petaluma KOA and took a tour into San Francisco from the KOA. I would not drive in SanFrancisco. It was worth the price to be chauffered. To see the sites and eat at the fisherman's wharf. From their we headed to Yosemite. We stayed at the Mariposa KOA in Midpines. We had a toad so we drove in daily to see the sites. They have shuttles in Yosemite Valley that take you around in the valley, but you need to drive yourself around also. Back to the coast of northern california you have 101 the Redwood Highway. Don't miss the Redwood NP which is also a state park. Make your reservations because campgrounds fill up. Have a great trip.

RE: Carlsbad Caverns - Have you been there?

You shouldn't have any problem doing the cavern. Take the elevator down and do the self guiding tour. It is awesome. You can take your own pace. As said on other entries their are places to eat and restrooms down in the cavern. My husband has had bypass surgery and both legs bypassed for poor circulation. And a hip replacement and he used his cane. At the time, I had two bad knees which have since been replaced. And I am so glad we didn't miss this awesome place. We stayed at the Carlsbad KOA. And if we were ever be out their again, that's where we would park. Nice level gravel pullthroughs, full hook-up, cable, outdoor heated pool. And at the time we had a beef briscuit dinner that was out of this world. Go enjoy. Safe travels.

RE: Canton, Ohio camping

You would love Evergreen Park in Mt.Eaton on Rt 250. A 10/10/10 Good Sam Park with paved pullthroughs, FH, 50 amp, cable, wifi, indoor heated pool and exercise and game room. Toll free 1-888-359-6429. It is a resort. Last summer their was a family from Louisiana who came specifically to see a FB player inducted into the hall of fame. We love this park.

RE: National Parks this summer

We did a 54 day trip out to NW and down Oregon Coast leaving home June 26th and returning home August 20th. Take Rt 2 across the northwest from upper penninsula of Michigan. We on the otherhand visited friends in Park Rapids Minnesota and then headed west to Theodore Roosevelt NP, traveling I-94 to 2005-13N to 2W. Rt 2 took us to St.Mary's Montana where we stayed at KOA, and visited Glacier NP. I would suggest you stay on the west side. After leaving we took 89-2-95S-I-90 to Spokane Valley then I-90,I-82S to Rt 12 and SR 504 to Silver Lake, Wa and visited Mt.St.Helens monument. Then SR 504 to I-5S to 30W to Astoria and camped at KOA. From Astoria we traveled down the Oregon coast on 101S. We stayed at Pacific Pines in Florence and traveled in jeep to see the sites. From Florence we took 101S-Rt 42 to I-5 to Rt 62 to Shady Cove, Oregon staying at Rogue River RV Park. I made reservations early for most of our trip, up and including Albequerque,NM. Let me tell you, don't miss this campground. We had riverfront pullthrough and it took my breath away. Absolutely gorgeous. We opened windows and listened to the river running, watched fishermen, kayakers and rafters. Taking the jeep we visited Crater lake. Then taking 62, I-5, 99, 199,and 101we arrived at Klamath, Ca and stayed at Camper Corral GS park. 101 is the Redwood Highway and the redwoods are awesome. From Klamath we headed to Petaluma and stayed at the KOA. They have a tour available that will take you into SanFrancisco for the day. You don't want to drive in SF. From Petaluma taking 101S, 116E, 12E,99S and 140E we arrived at Midpines and stayed at the Mariposa KOA. Taking the jeep we visited Yosemite 3 days. I would not take my MH any further than Midpines. From midpines we are heading home 140,99,58 and I-15 to Vegas, then onto Williams, AZ for Grand CAnyon NP. Don't miss the shuttle in the park. and then catching I-40 to Albequerque,NM and on to Amarillo, TX and visited the Palo Duro Canyon, the 2nd largest canyon in the USA. From their on to Oklahoma City,OK and visited the cowboy museum. That was the end of the road for our vacation plans. Then home to Ohio. We traveled 6,789 miles with the MH and add 2,879 in jeep, for a total of 9,668 miles. Total cost for gas was $4,450 and our 53 nites cost an average of $44.oo totaling $2,336. This was a trip of a lifetime and we have such great memories. On top of the nites and gas out plan on groceries and any meals out and trinkets at NP around $2,000. Hope this helps with your plans. And h0pe you have a great trip.

RE: Crater Lake - where to stay

We sat up camp at the Rogue River RV Park in Shady Cove, Oregon for our visit to Crater Lake. If I remember it was about 30 miles to the lake. We reserved our spot early and you need to do that if you plan on visiting crater lake. If I had known how breathtaking this park would be, we would have stayed longer. We had a river front pullthrough site. Could open windows and hear the river flowing, watch men fishing for trout, and rafters and kayakers. It was absolutely beautiful. Have a great trip, and enjoy

RE: Where can we stay to see San Francisco, CA

This past summer we stayed at the Petaluma KOA which is 34 miles north of SanFrancisco. They have a tour for $79.00/person that takes you into SanFrancisco. Great tour. They take you to see the crooked road, china town, golden gate bridge, prisidio, city parks, the wharf where you can have lunch. For us it was the only way to see the city.

RE: Yosemite from Las Vegas

We were in the northwest last summer. Our trip was in reverse. We left Yosemite via 140, 99, 58, and I 15. We stayed at the Mariposa KOA in Midpines with pool, full hookup, 50 amp, cable, wifi. Don't wait to make reservation. They were full everyday. Some people were turned away. Have a great trip.

RE: Yosemite Campgrounds & Bears

we stayed at the Mariposa KOA in Midpines. Not a bear in sight. Full hook-up and 50 amp, cable and wifi. It is about 42 miles outside of Yosemite. It is curvy and up and down on way in. We toured in our jeep liberty. Have a great trip.

RE: Help invited in planning my trip

Goodmorning: My husband and I did a 54 day trip from June 26th to August 20th. Driving from Ohio we visited with friends in Minnesota a couple days then taking I-94 crossed westward to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the badlands of North Dakota. Then on to Montana for Glacier NP the going to the sun road was not completely open due to the bad winter, so we drove from east to west side to see a total 28 miles of the GTS road. We had headed north from TR NP to route 2. Heading into Washington state we headed south to visit Mt.StHelens NM, then continued westward into Oregon. We took in the Columbia River Gorge, Astoria, the Oregon Coast which will take your breath away. Then into California down the Redwood Highway 101. From Petaluma KOA above SanFrancisco we took a tour into SanFrancisco. From their we headed southeast and visited Yosemite NP and then into Nevada to LasVegas. Left a day early due to the heat. Don't miss the PaloDuro Canyon in Amarillo Texas. We had also revisited the Grand Canyon in Arizona taking the shuttle in the canyon, awesome scenery. The Palo Duro canyon is our 2nd largest canyon in the USA. After leaving Texas we finished our vacation with a visit at the Oklahoma cowboy museum. That was the finish of our tour. I must tell you that you won't want to drive your MH through a lot of the NPs or plan on staying in the parks due to tight and short spots. Best to have a tow vehicle to tour with. We have a 36ft Fleetwood Bounder and tow a jeep liberty. Have a great trip. Stay safe.

RE: Summer cross-country trip

We're planning on traveling to Maine. Will take in Vermont and New Hampshire also. Rockland, Maine has a Lobster festival in August, and they get 70,000 visitors. We will do a whale watch out of BarHarbor. And I agree, don't miss Camden. If you hit Conneticut, go to Mystic. They have a casino and aquarium. Beautiful country. Have a great trip.

RE: Around the campfire

We belong to both Good Sam and KOA. We like the amenities and usually you will find easy on easy off access. Lot of city parks, state parks and NP's have limits on length of units and hook-ups. We had a 54 day vacation to the northwest this past summer and stayed at KOA's and good sam parks. Good luck with your travels.
