RE: Is this a deal

Hi, I have a Jayco 19H (2010) and tow it with a Toyota Tacoma. The Tacoma is rated for 6500 lbs. While I love the 19H, I'm not sure I would want to be towing it with anything rated for only 5000 lbs in the Rockies. Also, check the tongue weight of the Ridgeline. The 19H is rated at 420 dry, but it very quickly gets a lot higher then that. I had to make a little cargo bracket so that I could keep all my cargo towards the middle and the back of the camper just to keep it under the 650 lbs of tongue weight my Tacoma allows. Even then, it is usually very close. I don't see a problem turtling, but I wouldn't want to do it more then once in awhile. The couch folds out and you can get 2 adults on it, although it's a little tight, but the dinette is strictly for kids. Good luck any way you go!

RE: Jayco X17Z Ground Clearance

We have a similar issue with our 19h. The first couple of times we pulled into our steep driveway our skids hit. So now what I do, is just lay down a couple 2 x 10's at the foot of the driveway and it raises the camper up just enough so that when it gets to the driveway, it does not scrape. I don't know if that (or some variation of that) will work for you or not. The 2 inch lift kit would have worked well and in hindsight I would have rather had the dealer add that, however this works fine for us. Good luck!

RE: Greasing wheel bearings on a Jayco 19H

Thanks everyone for the replies and for the detailed explanation. It really makes sense now. It sounds like I did it correctly then. I'm glad I don't have to take it all apart before my next trip, especially since we are leaving for Maine on Thursday!!!

RE: Greasing wheel bearings on a Jayco 19H

Hmmm, I followed the directions in the Dexter manual that came with my trailer. The directions stated to add the grease while rotating the wheel until you see the new grease coming back out the front. So that is all I really did. So now I have to take them apart and get rid of all the "extra" grease?

Greasing wheel bearings on a Jayco 19H

So yesterday I added grease to the wheel bearings on my camper. I have Dexter axles, added the grease using a standard grease gun and the "EZ Lube port on the hubs. It might just be me but it seems that they took a lot of grease. I went through 2 tubes of grease (about 8 oz total -- about 2 per wheel). Just seemed like a lot considering I supposedly had the dealer repack them at the end of last summer and have only pulled the trailer about 700 miles since then. Does anyone know if this is normal because I'm thinking maybe I got "the shaft" from the dealer. I guess I will probably start doing all of the maintenance on my camper in the future since I have my doubts that the dealer did anything at this point. Just seems odd to me that it seemed to take so much and almost none of the old grease came out, just the new grease.

RE: Tacoma to pull a TT?

I pull a Jayco 19H with my Tacoma. It may not be exactly what your looking for since it's a hybrid, but there are other trailers out there that I have been looking at that are only a few hundred pounds more then mine that are not hybrids. My trailer probably weighs in around 4500 or so when towing. I wouldn't think there would be too much of an issue pulling 5k with the Tacoma. Just make sure you get a weight distribution/anti sway hitch. Good luck!

RE: Utilizing storage area under sofa- inside access?

Larry, I have a 2010 19H and you just have to pull up on the sofa a couple inches and the lower panel should open right up. There is a lot of extra storage space under there. Good luck!

RE: My new cargo holding solution ....

Nice idea. I like the carpet by the entryway. I usually just pack all the big stuff against the front between the dinette and the sofa. I usually pack it in snugly and it stays pretty good.

RE: problem with fridge staying on while driving

Hi All, First I want to thank everyone for the replies and suggestions. I believe that the suggestion about lighting the stove first did the trick! In between trips, I always shut off our propane and apparently after sitting for awhile, air was getting into the line. By starting the stove first it did the trick. I know there was air in the line because it took about 20 - 30 seconds to get the stove lit. Once I did that, absolutely no issues with the fridge! I guess I'll have to add that to my pre-trip checklist (at least when leaving the house anyway). Thanks again everyone!

RE: Jayco X19H awning question

Just went out and checked mine. They look the same (no caps).

RE: problem with fridge staying on while driving

Folks, my Jayco has the automatic electronic ignition, but I know it is not staying lit because there is an indicator light and if it blinks, that tells me the fridge is off. It does start on it's own most of the time, but sometimes I have to just switch it off then on to get it to reignite. I was just trying to determine if there was something that could be done to keep it from turning off to start with. I will check to make sure that the pilot light does not need to be adjusted or cleaned. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

problem with fridge staying on while driving

For those of you who normally travel with your fridge on while driving (using propane). Have any of you had problems with it staying on? When I stop I always look to make sure the fridge is still on and sometimes it goes out when I am traveling. If you have had this problem and figured out a way to stop it, can you please reply as to what you did to get it to stay on all of the time? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

RE: Got out X19H today. & a lights question.

I agree with bgiroux, On our 19H, the first switch controls only the outside light, the second switch controls the inside lights. I think someone may have not wired it correctly. Since you are going away this weekend, make a list of everything you find and then go back to the dealer and have them all fixed at the same time. Since it's a 2 yr warranty, you have some time to get them all fixed. If they are all minor issues, you may want to have them all fixed after your camping season is over so your not inconvenienced.

RE: What hitch for a Jayco X19H?

Good luck with the 19h, I have the same one and also pull it with a Taco. I have the reese dual cam, but I think you will be happy with the Equil-i-zer too. The Taco pulls the camper pretty nice, but you wont win any races going up a big hill! We really love our 19h and I'm sure you'll enjoy yours too.

RE: Don't Store Items in Microwave!!!

Well if this is truly a problem, you could always just unplug the microwave when not in use...

RE: 20Amp and a/c

It depends on your AC unit, but you probably can. I have a 13.5 BTU AC and was running it off of my 20 amp circuit at home this weekend. My HTT was pulling about 12 amps with the AC on high and nothing else on (keep in mind, my HTT draws about 2 or so with no other appliances turned on).

RE: DH broke the breakaway cable :(

Wow, that is really interesting that the cable is supposed to attach to the tow vehicle, not the chain. One of my friends who has a pop up was towing it last weekend and the ball came out of the coupler (I think he locked it over not under the ball), and his cable was attached to the chain and not the tow vehicle. So what happened was, when the ball popped out, the chains tightened and pulled the cable and the breaks kicked in on the trailer. So he was able to slow down and pull over safely without the trailer hitting the back of his tow vehicle. The one thing I don't know was whether or not the 7 pin electric connecter was pulled out too. I would think that if that was still connected, he would have been able to apply the breaks, but if that was pulled out, he would have been in big trouble! When I purchased my new trailer, the cable was attached to the safety chains. I always thought that was how they were supposed to work. I guess I need to fix that! Interesting, you learn something new every day. I love this forum.

RE: checking wheel and tire temps

This may be a silly question and I really don't mean to hijack the thread, but what do you do if the bearings or wheels are running too hot? If it's a hot bearing, does it just imply that it would need to be repacked? It it's a tire that is too hot, does that you need to get new tires before they fall apart? Thanks in advance, I was just not aware of this.
